  1. Has anyone here been granted a variation for a pistol for humane dispatch on anything other than deer ??
  2. I would assume that every body here uses a shotgun. Which begs the question. what is the point of asking your question on a forum ??? given that anyone answering different would be setting themeselves up. No??
  3. Jeez We used to call them "Aligator saws" with good reason. Definatley not for single hand use. Lucky escape fella , Has yer heart rate dropped yet!
  4. Aye I use Hunter Glen Affric boots instead of wellies. I also have a pair of Berghuas Storm gortex boots that I wear for most of the year, but you cant get them now and the replacement model is crap, so I have bought a pair of Mamut gortex lined leather boots. Mega comfy and look like they will last a s long as yer feet!.
  5. Ha ha Its amazing what you`ll find in a Fenn trap these days
  6. Lothian and Borders Firearms dpt Really good and helpfull. will help you sort everything out at the desk if you want to go in and see them. Quick with variations and my liason officer is very helpfull and keen to see that first time applicants get it right. big for them ,like
  7. Very nice mate I used to love getting out with my "Gutties" They look very nice. Are they for yourself or is this a little side line?
  8. Yup Two wee jills would be best. And get him vasectomised,,,not nuetered or castrated. Same price but you can pimp him out to your mates with jills, for beer
  9. Oh dear !!! People will always have an opinion. I`ve been reading these forums for a while now and it appears the biggest problem is people refusing to accept that other people are allowed a different opinion from them! and then voicing this with abuse. that and people throwing in off topic nonsense as they appear to have not a clue about whats being spoken about. Good fun though
  10. Hi all This is interesting stuff,, thanks for the posts. Have to say though ,for less money you could have had him vasectomised and left him in with the jills all year. He gets to work all winter and play all summer !! . If you wanted to breed from him then another hobb with the snip would still be a good investment meaning you only have to seperate your complete hob for the beginning of the year. Even getting a vasectimised hob between 2 mates would work as long as he is not being over worked (in the bedroom dept). The snip is pretty easy on him and there are no long term issues.
  11. For gods sake man what ever you do dont throw it away !!! ha ha they are worth a bloody fortune As above , fix it to a new ferret collar. Or sell it to me for much cheepnes !!(shameless me ,like)

  13. Good stuff blokes. Looks a good bit for it. I`m not too far away from you and I`m gutted I cant get oot an aboot for another 10 days yet. Was up in Dundee for tropical fish the other day though and the drive back home always has my heed oan a swivel looking for game Ha ha drives the wife nuts.
  14. Yup A clean cage is a given anyway this will help avoid infection while in season There are 2 points to this. If you do not breed from a ferret there may be problems with her in later life, Hips etc If you do not do something to bring her out of season, she keeps losing blood and this may lead to Anemea which can kill them. Loads of people are happy with the jab ,you may need more than one jab per year if she has more than one bout "in season" My view is a Vasectomised (not neutered) hob is the best way but not every one has this choice. You may wish to hope for the best , but in m
  15. I have only used the jill jab once and that was on the anaemic ferret mentioned above to try and get her out off season asap. She died right after it and although I know this was my fault I have never used the jab since so cant comment on it too much. I leave my snipped hob in with the jills and yes I have seen them come back into season , seen this a few times actually , but with him in there they just come out off season again after being lined and I have never seen any ill effects of this. I have also seen a phantom pregnancy (was in with a snipped hob that was proven sterile) that went fu
  16. Ey up The main reason for jills to die if not brought out of season is anemia, I lost one to this a while back and swore it would never happen again. For years I had a big vasectomised hob and never had a bit of bother. He died (a very ,very happy old age ) and my new hob will line my jill this year and all going well will be snipped after that. Only hassle with this is having to work a ferret thats worth aboot 60 quid Not breeding from a jill may cause problems later on so my advice would be to get her thorugh this season and then think about breeding from her maybe next year. Good lu
  17. Ey Up Have to say, I have moved to the Mk3M after losing my last Micro batt cap First impressions ; Top bit of kit. Very pleased with the results I got and I reckon with a bit of practice it will be superb. Very accurate. Reckon I will sell my Mk1 after I track down a new cap(and I WILL!) as I am so impressed with the new one. Like the fact I can switch the collars off. The do seem big but so far the ferrets appear to be comfy enough with them. The technique talked about here is nigh on the same as what I found to work best after a bit of practice and I managed to get mine for 187 q
  18. Thanks for the welcome Bud. Been having a read and theres some good stuff on here. Will be posting on some of the forums here shortly,, when I get some peace at work.
  19. Hello all Just a quick intro. I have been into fieldsports for 30 years or so (42ish now). Owned lurchers but use my sons dogs at the mo as I have 2 daft working cockers to contend with. Do a fair bit of shooting (all types, mostly vermin) Tried the Pheasant shoot thing for a bit. Still work my ferrets and generally like getting out for a rake aboot (geddit ! groan).Looking forward to chatting to some of you as the forums look lively and interesting. Cheers the noo
