Getting excited, litter on the way
poxon replied to Vicky Steadman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Any new pictures of a fatty Heidi vicky -
Vicky steadman put a post up the other day of her traditional work bred Lurcher litter due there collie/greyhound deerhound greyhound bedlington greyhound with a small drop of whippet on both sides of the breeding parents are 24-24.5tts both do the job in hand regular i know vicky personally she travels all up an down the country to work her bitch (Heidi)id give this bitch some credit without bumming the breeding up because I know vicky but I’d class this bitch as one of these mythical wonder dogs as the bitch is a very classy bitch to people in the know I don’t think there’s any pups availabl

Advice on training my 8month old Bull X on the lamp
poxon replied to JMxyrz's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I’ve not said that I’ve said what I done as I didn’t require nothing else at the time as the land had no stock no obstacles to jump but got lucky with everything else my point being why train something you’r not going to use or need from a dog it’s dead time when time can be spent training something your going to need the dog to do like a recall to a good level I don’t know the lads individual requirements from his dog that’s up to him to decide but worked very well for me. -

Tbh fella it’s all your shout what you teach I say the minimum is a good recall for a point an aim dog for one job if ya get what I mean but teach a extension of recall if you want a retriever. I remember getting a hammering for my last bitch got called all the names under the sun because I said what’s the point in stock breaking a dog that never is near any stock my last place I lived if I wanted to I could lamp 7nights a week not that I did 7 nights a week it was all arable land I didn’t even need a dog that could jump as all entrances were un gated her first bit of entering to stock was a d -

Recall,recall,recall -
Nice ain’t it fella very capable animal on them rabbits lad keeps it in good Nick not normally my type of cross but but a eye opener to the cross I get out with him regularly through out the season very capable on them rabbits makes it look easy work on to the next ??
-
Probably just your dodgy photo black neck ?it looks smaller than this 28tts saluki x looks more the size of the little 23tts beddy/collie x bitch were it comes to on the guy in the photo nee but probably just your shit photography skill. Interesting cross any way do you know how the fella come about owning such a cross was it originally bred for work or was it a accidental mating?
-
Looks tiny for that cross I’d of expected something that looked a bit more of a machine an thick set being that cross
-
Interesting replay runner Neil Someone with some experience of them ??I think in the lurcher world people jump straight on to the negatives then give a negative replay I’ve no experience with huntaways I’ve only ever seen one work that was down in Oxfordshire on a sheep farm I spoke to the farmer he said he bought it for novelty to begin with as he normally used collies and wanted to try something different he said to be fair it’s a pretty good dog tbh it looked a pretty good dog to be fair I looked like it worked in the same manner as a collie pretty responsive dog. I had a bit of a read up o

I’m guessing the odds are the same as any lurcher then it’s all down to luck if the cross gells and a shorts straws game
-
Your probably right again mate but hybrids have a way of surprising us all look at most the bulls bred to greyhounds never had a pit fight in there life’s nothing more than pets but produce dogs that can be Pretty handy at most jobs same goes with collie not everyone as assess to a farm working collie that actually works regularly most farmers wouldn’t pimp there collie out to someone that’s going to potentially poach there land so people use pets or trials collie with a degree of success at most jobs expected from a lurcher same goes to bedlingtons most ain’t worked to ground most are nothing
-
Your probably right mate was just curious as people use all sorts of strange An wonderful xs these days as nothing is set in stone with hybrids just wondered if anyone was running this cross that’s all I think it would take a wise man to predict the out come of said cross unless trying one or seeing one work for himself I mean greyhounds are mute as a rule I think anything could happen I think it would take a stupid dog with nothing about it to feel barking at a object it wants to catch will get the job done but saying that a lot of terriers and collies can be yapping c**ts I think the odds wo

See a litter of huntaways bred local working stock so got me googleing them they sound pretty handy as a base blood hearding dog it’s just the vocals part that made me post to see if anyone works a greyhound x huntaway just wondering what the out come of such a cross would be wonder weather the hybrid would carry the vocal part as well as what else they offer
-
Does any one work this cross the base blood seems a interesting dog just curious

Looking forward to seeing some pups out of them to Vicky exciting times ahead ?? -
Like I said Fred most not all bedlington whippets.its kind of like saying any smooth coat dog won’t face cover that we know is not true if a dog is keen enough an knows there’s something in there it’ll go in because it wants on. Well that’s what we’re all led to believe Fred that most these guys that keep the real deal stuff don’t come on Internet forums like this.

Bedlington whippets are not quick any way Unless bred back to a decent size whippet or grew that can cover ground there one speed dogs with no gears. There just a peddlers pocket money dog most are bred out of show type pet bedlingtons to pet whippet an changed the earth for these days with a story of parents being good working dogs I can’t really see what the hype over the cross is all about to be honest it offers little to nothing in modern day hunting that a decent work bred whippet can’t do the only difference being there more pleasing to the eye to look at as a traditional looking scru

Not seen no mixy round here last year was seeing pretty decent numbers of rabbits were I’d recently moved thought I was in for a really good season with the young un but about a month before the crops come down it was like they up sticks an left i was finding just random dead rabbits while out wi the dog they looked in perfect condition not shot or carrying mixy just random dead rabbits dotted about on the spots I visited definitely vhd virus. All winter it’s been the odd couple dotted about on the lamp in each field then on to the next field ferreting the best I got off a sheep field hedge ro
