Wow . . . so if you are LUCKY enough to end up with someone elses stolen dog. . . . it's ok to try to make money off it yourself as well? This site is a joy at times.
-
I know him Them lads got what was coming
-
I'm fairly sure Hancock breeds his? That's not really an argument mate. Look, I give up. Dog dealers are fine, there is nothing whatsoever strange about a man being in possession of shit tons of unrelated lurchers, that he didn't breed, trying to make a quick buck on them. And I don't think that any of these dog dealers are in any way selling stolen dogs and so therefore fueling the thefts, or indeed committing them, themselves.
-
No leeview. . . . but folk were defending dog dealers, and suggesting that they are all just 'free to good home' or cheap dogs that they are passing on, and the only wrong is telling porky pies about how good the dog is. . . . But I think if a man is selling over 20 dogs a month. . . . it's a good chance that some of those dogs are stolen, is all I'm saying.

For Sale Trained Female Cocker Spaniel, Wernffrwd Lines
Ideation replied to andy01427's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
If she is properly fully trained, and that well bred. . . . she's worth the money. Good luck with the sale mate -
Now a lot is said about whippets, and plenty know how much sport I enjoy with mine. I agree Keith that the wet and cold doesn't bother the dog. But they definataly have a finer structure, which leads to injuries when lamping. This doesn't really show itself in the day, but under the excitable cut and thrust conditions of the dazzler, especially in the small fields, paddocks and scrubby bits that the small fast dog are ideally suited to. . . . it leads to problems at night. My dog is only 4 and he has a scar on just about every part of his body, missing teeth, he's been stitched

Mine runs better than some lurchers, not as well as others. But my biggest problem is that his drive is very very high, and his frame cannot handle that so well. . . . So he's one hell of an exciting dog to watch run . . . . until he smashes through / into something and gets hurt. Also I think a dog under 22 / 23 " tts isn't ideal for lamping, at least not where I do. My lad is 22", and I don't think he'd do half as well if he was 18". But maybe I'm wrong.

My kind of ground and sport is that Well done lads and mutts

Does it not ring any alarm bells if someone has sold 20 0dd dogs in a month . . . maybe they are all from adds on gumtree . . . . but I'd make a fair bet that some of those dogs had been nicked, maybe not by him, but by scallys looking to earn some coin. As long as folk are willing to buy dogs no questions asked, dogs will be stolen. If some dog dealer sold you a genuine decent working lurcher he'd only had a few days . . . . wouldn't you be thinking stolen???
-
I will mate, I've been having a few troubles lol. . . . but I'm due a visit I think! Don't take it personally. . . . I've been a miserable, reclusive b*****d!
-
. . . . apparently there are also a lot of folk on here who would keep stum if they had bought someones stolen dog. . . Good to know.
-
Yer I love seeing the other breeds out! We got the odd terrier, but never had a lurcher out. I need to come up and see you guys!

We've a cocker here now being trained. My old man is a springer man. . . . And he likes to tell me at great length how different they are to train to a high standard and how different they work. I really trust and value his opinion and it fits with a lot of what I've seen. I think being close to them being trained helps to see it.
-
I'm posting from my phone so I'll write a proper reply later. But in essence I would say that from what I've seen springers are more inclined to hunt what their handlers instruct them to, whereas cockers seem less inclined to hunt cover that's not holding at least scent. Also springers seem to work in a tighter side to side sweeping motion, as their pattern. Cockers seem to make a slightly more circular sweeping motion. Also cockers seem to enjoy working bramble far less. Essentially I think the differences come from the cockers original application hunting woodcock, on looser more open ground

Looking good Malc!!!!! To some others..... How come everyone is talkin as if cockers and springers have the same working style? They don't!!
-
Too true hotmeat. Although its not the nicest of days here ..... Bit overcast and damp in the woods :-)
-
Out of interest if you saw a dog somewhere and knew it was someone's dog off here that had been stolen .... Would you tell the owner etc and try to help? Or just leave them to it?
-
I'm not saying all dog peddlers are theifs, but that where a lot end up. . . And if a man will lie to make money off dogs I wouldn't trust them in general! And I'd kind of hope that if my dogs were stolen and someone got hold of them. . And even after 6 months . .... Saw on here that they had been stolen .....that I'd get them back. But apparently not. No wonder the dog theifs get away with it so much...... But hey, going on your earlier thoughts. If your dogs been nicked, it's your own fault, should have ha better security and not been so naive right? It's a good lesson.
-
So you're trying to tell me someone who peddles dogs for money..... Would have a massive problem with the dog being stolen???
-
So what about dog thefts baw? Why's that a problem? Just folk trying to make some coin isn't it?
-
To be honest even off guntree I think it takes a certain kind of c**t to go round all the dog looking for a good home adds ..... And taking them saying you are going to give it a decent home and punting it on for profit. Lying to coin money on dogs...... How far will that kind of person go? I'd say 100% they would happily trade in stolen dogs, and so fuel the thefts!
-
Fair play baw..... See for me, the thing is dog peddlers are one step from dog thieves as after all, that's where a lot of them end up.... And it just doesn't sit right lying to folk and trying to con them into getting a dog off them and then using it to make cash..... My original point was more a long the lines that i always struggle to comprehend why folk come on here saying they know a dog theif and he lives down the road..... and yet when folks dogs are stolen they are on here saying how bad it is.
-
Depends if you get a pup and rear it or just do like a lot on here and get new dogs every few months .... And hope it works out. If not..... Peddle it on lol.
-
This thread is pretty illuminating. Saint? No, just think I've got a few morals. Nice to know that some of our members would happily peddle a few dogs for cash.
