  1. You know what Scott, after i wrote that i was thinking about the hobs, and you are totally right, as you say, they would be a solitary creature, but then ferrets have been domesticated for a long long time, so maybe that alters it . . . . . ??? Certainly most ferrets i have come across are pretty social, playful animals, that seem to thrive in a community. . . . . But your right about those polecats mate
  2. If it's small and fury, and you take it ferreting, stick nets on holes and bolt rabbits into them with it. . . . . . IT"S A FERRET!
  3. Finn is a great name for a dog mate all the best with him.
  4. Pm the members, socks and skycat mate, they will be able to give some good advice, they know their shit when it comes to dog injury and rehab
  5. Like i said mate, some ferrets are just funny feckers. My lot are inseperable, and all mine get on with all my ferreting partners (something like a dozen between us in general), all of them that is, apart from two of our main jills who for some reason CANNOT stand each other, and even when worked together just grumble and moan the whole time. You can hear them walking about the warren muttering to themselves.
  6. Just a little one officer...... Just like my knife too!! Lol According to Judge, S'no the only little one you walk about with matey
  7. Have they always been like this mate? Chances are, when their balls go back up, they will chill out a bit. I have two brother hobs here, and i have them together, i feel bad because the dominant hob pushes the other one about, and he has a somewhat raw back of head and neck. However as they have been together their whole life, they get a bit funny when separated, so it's a no win situation You do however just get some ferrets that are miserable, anti social b*****ds
  8. Cheers for all the kind words guys, the wee man will be chuffed when i show him The terrier came out of a hunt kennels somewhere down south. He's a mental wee b*****d Sadly the only thing we found in the pens were rats, rabbits and one unfortunate hen pheasant sitting on some eggs
  9. You carry a baseball bat out walking your dogs????? Right.
  10. No problem mate, if you have any problems, drop me a pm and i will try to help.
  11. Cheers mate! It's a funny thing, as a pup he was very hard headed and very tough, what i would have called a 'hard' dog. Didn't really want any affection, and wanted to hunt / kill everything and anything he met from 7.5 weeks on. But now he definatly has a split personality, in the field is IS hard, tough and has real grit, he forgets EVERYTHING else apart from the task of finding and catching game / vermin. He knows thats what we are there for and so thats what he is going to do, hell or high water. Thing is he thinks 'hunting' is what we do every time we leave the house, there is
  12. I'm confused? Dog in the top pic with the bunnies, is a different dog to the one in the second pic???
  13. O yer and NEVER underestimate the stupidity of humanity
  14. Same as kids isn't it, most folk just get dogs/kids. . . . . cos that's what you do right? With no thought whatsoever for the practicalities or responsibilities. They are just thinking what they get out of it. Worst i've seen recently was a family i work with, i was telling the kid he should take the dog for a walk to get some exercise etc etc etc, i was told, don't be stupid, it doesn't go outside, it's a 'house dog'
  15. That was a few "ears" ago So she did grow into them a bit.
  16. Fecking hell mate, either she's shrinking or they're growing!
  17. Alright matey, as said locators are real handy! However if you don't have one there are a few tips that will help you, firstly make sure your ferret is well fed before you work her, so if she kills she is more likely to just walk away rather than eat. Also, start early so if you have to wait for a couple of hours you shouldn't lose the light. Make yourself a probe, so if you do get a kill you can find the tube if you need to dig (and you have an idea where she is). Try when feeding your ferret, doing a certain call or whistle, and she may start to come to that, and sometimes you can call
  18. He looked fecking stupid as a pup mate, he came at 7.5 weeks with ears that size, looked like a cross between a bat and a radar dish Aye if you turn him 28 degrees south east he gets Sky One. Don't even get my started on the puddle ducks ears! That other one can def join our merry band of 'Sound Hounds'

  20. Thank christ, someone gets it.
  21. Cheers Johnny mate, that means a lot coming from you The One - aye it's a hob mate, if they take after the jill and hob they were bred off. . . . . they certainly will not be small The dog is only 16 month mate, i'm not surprised you have seen similar, he came from Mike Brown, and a lot of the laguna / sooty sam bred dogs, are a similar look, black, with a small white flash on their chest and bat ears
  22. Aye mate, they probably do! Mine and johnnys litters are related this year tho.
