    That's some very good advice there. No point in rushing into a dog, you may not have the work for. But given that you run the lurchers etc, i think a springer will end up suiting you Training a gun dog to work with lurchers and gun independently is a real ball ache mind. Training a good gun dog is very time consuming.

    i completely agree on ur above comment i said in my previous post that realistically i have too much however i will be getting some hunting buddies to help me i have also made farmers aware of the reality of having just me walking the land so they agreed to allow 2 other people walk the land also only 2 lads i really trust and who are proper dog men the farmers didnt have anyone really walking there land apart from the odd poacher so there happy ill be walking it regularily also all farmers staunchly against any type of poison even livestock friendly ones so dogs and guns are the onl

    i had a none ped whippet bitch, she was 20in 20lb . She was a great little dog good rabbits in the day, and good in the lamp. I have seen some males 22in 30lb in weight, tough little buggers would tackle any fox. None peds are great, more so if you have a 1/4 of bull in there as well I got a ped male, about 22.5 tts and weighs 36-38.5. Very strong for a whippet. Id, have you got a picture of that dog? ... sounds around the same as mine. Ped, but a big strong solid thing. Same height, slightly lighter than yours. I've got a couple of poor ones, i'll dig one out!

    30,000 acres. . . .. i'm not being a dick mate, but if you are really going to do the job and sort the tree rats proper, then no amount of air gun shooting is going to cut it, same for lamping the rabbits and fox solo. Unless there id not much about? If there is, on land that size, your going to need a f**k load of traps for the squirrels and a rifle for the foxes and rabbits. If not and they are keen on the pests being controlled, you'll end up losing it.

    I'm with johnnyboy68, a good running dog beats a terrier hands down (apart from some ground i suppose). I'd say our team of 3 - collie/grey, whippet and beddy/grey/bull/whippet seem to do the job Although having said that i do want to add a decent terrier or small hound to the team. Also there is a difference between a dog that come ferreting and a ferreting dog

    Survival and ease mate. If you found some grub, lying about, would you leave it there and hope it stayed put for you to come back to, or would you take it home? And would you rather walk out to get food, or roll over in bed? Any animal will do it, dogs take stuff back to their baskets etc.

    Read between the lines. Four folk try to smash their way into a house which contains three people, before 12 at night, and one of the raiders gets stabbed to death? Don't sound like a normal burglary to me. Just cos one lot of folk are getting their house raided doesn't mean they are innocent by standers. Probably involved drugs.

    I still use the first box i ever got of my own, my old man made it for me. It's fecking heavy, feels like it's made of scaff planks but solid enough to sit on, or for when it rolls down bankings. It will take 4 stinkers, and has a strip from a barbour jacket as the strap. It did, one day last season fall apart mid trip, but it's repaired and lives on. Must be 20 years old at least. Wouldn't swop it for anything
