  5. Unfortunatly you just have to get used to it, as it isnt going to get any bigger. Every year, the number of 'hunters' grows like mad, and the amount of huntable land and quarry shrinks. In order to test your animals you need a lot of land, and its just not possible for all of the folk out there to have 'enough' land to do so, it just isnt there. What we need is about 75 percent of folk to stop hunting . . . . . then we would be ok.
  6. Quite possibly its due to using not enough ferrets, a big place like that, i'd tip in half a dozen at least.
  7. Not strictly true, have you tried running 100m shouting? What happens to your time?

Aye, was pretty good last night, shit tonight, meant to be better tomorrow!
  9. Normally he would be trying to swing the rabbits about or generally acting up, but he had just winded himself, so he was behaving Little fecker is staring at me now, willing me to take him out! It's bright as day though.
  10. Hadn't planned on going out last night, but the weather was good, despite the moon so thought i would have a quick look out, even though the local area is usually devoid of rabbits. Grabbed the lamp and battery, which i thought had been charged and nipped over the back fence. Had a shine about and saw a couple, had to give the dog a long slip, down hill, he made the ground up well, cathcing up with the bunny as it hit an old stream bed, the rabbit tried to leap up the bank, and was neatly snatched out of the air. Dog back, and another shine about revealed a couple of bunnys right up th
  11. Hope she gets found mate.
  12. I agree, although in winter, the rabbits that go in fresh, usually end up frozen
  13. A lot of the issues aurrounding the 'ban' come from france and germany who basiclly hate the fact that their citizens can take a short drive, buy drugs and then drive back. There are no border checks now, so its rife. There has always been a front door / back door issue. They were alowed to keep a half key (500 g) out back, but would sell a lot more than that in a day, also the production (growing) of the weed was never tolerated, on a comericial scale. Most of the bigger seed banks moved to spain and switzerland ages ago. The dutch government usually decide not to ban it based upo
  14. Don't know if you have picked this up, so sorry if its stating the obvious, but the best night to go lamping is a dark night (moon down), with a decent bit of wind and cloud cover and a nice light drizzle, it seems to make the rabbits feel safe and they feed out in the middle, away from the warrens, they also dont hear or see you coming as well. Try to walk with the wind blowing on your face, as that means your scent isnt being carried to them. Spot the rabbit and walk up on it, keeping the dogs head up with the slip, maybe hissing to give him and idea of whats down the been. If its a
  15. Actually scott, that is a mis conception, they are not particularly tolerant, in fact, can be fairly right wing as a government. They are however, very practicle. They did not legalise the smoking of weed because they are cool and chilled, but because that seemed the most sensible, and economically minded action on it. They were the first to get into slavery and the first to abolish it, when it became too messy. They only legalised abortion in 1980, a long time after most other including russia and the states. I have a friend who was actually arrested for posession of marijuana in
  16. The best time is winter, from now until, about march, although a lot depends upon the amount of cover about, which is pretty bad this year. I would try to start off entering them one at a time on small warrens, until they get the hang of it. I wouldnt start them until at least six months of age, and preferably on warrens that a dog has positivly marked or that you have seen rabbits drop into.
  17. To be honest mate, you seen to be really keen, which is good, but pick your rabbits, rather than slipping on whats there. I saw the other day you were out on a still and clear night . . . . not the way to go. Good luck, and take it steady.
  18. It's that same old mantra, more than likely originating from a book I think the terrier cross have limitations when rabbiting also, and I have seen a few in the field. Personally I would not be to concerned with the breeding specifics as a priority and go for two dogs doing the business However a medium sized strong pastoral based lurcher would be more to my taste. 19. Cheers all. He is just over two and a half.
  20. Why do folk always say beddy x whippet? Most of them have never worked them, but just repeat it, because that's whats always said is a good ferreting dog. They can be good, but can also be very limited. A good collie x grey is probably a better bet for 'all round' ferreting, or pure whippet or 1/4 beddy at most. Just my opinion, but seen lots of very small half x beddy / whips, which were limited by their stature.
  21. Haha, funny you should say that! Hello matey, i would happily come up and give you some tips, don't get much chance to drive up north, and it's a beautiful part of the world!
  22. Cheers mate, she does me Not sure how big the dog will make 14 " tts, something like that, but its difficult to say. She has thrown real teckley, so i think thats kept the size down, we shall see, she is 6 months in a week.
  23. Cookie - i will take some photos tomorrow mate, it's not too steep, just a fecking jungle, brambles up to my head, the pigs have cleared a good space (one enclosure) and i was planning on re-seeding that with grass, then when its up, graze a couple of lambs in spring. And use some goats to make a start on clearing another enclosure.
