  1. the main thing is finding out that were not tied down to B&F kit although it's good, like Deben in the past they ruled the terrier world with their equipment, now they are nothing except in the ferreting world, we have a choice if we are prepared to experiment with avalanche equipment, all the frequencies and principles are the same but the equipment used for finding avalanche victims are better and more reliable, Higgins.
  2. chubs is looking for such a terrier, give him a PM, Higgins.
  3. GJ if you have friends with a locator set that you go out with regular, then maybe you could just buy the Ortovox collar for now as their sets should pick up your collar, you'll only need a full setup if going out on your own,the collar is more important for the terrier as you can probably borrow a box, although it's best to have your own full setup/kit, Higgins.
  4. Matulkoh, can you do any repairs or maintenance on the ortovox transmitter,i suppose if they cannot be disasembled, this would be where the B&F transmitter collar has the advantage as all parts for these collars can be bought separately, just wondering if the same can be done with the ortovox,if it fails it would mean buying another collar transmitter?
  5. Yes i saw that too Leadhed, thanks! As for buying collars separateley from B&F it appears to be for spares if you've already bought the full setup previously,i know there is an advanced Pieps receiver as i've seen them on Ebay for cheaper than B&F sell there own for! I'm in no rush to buy as i'm giving the terrier plenty of time before trying him,so i can wait for a cheaper alternative than buying from B&F, Higgins.
  6. ripstop,if you look thru the posts Matulkoh says you can order an Ortovox dog transmitter on their own, but not a B&f ,you have to buy collar and box as a set i think. The others can be found on ebay,i would consider the Barryvox Mammut Pulse transceiever, but aslo the Pieps boxes can be found on ebay too, just depends what you need, according to Matulkoh and from what i read in the specs they can be worked together.Matulkoh also says during converstaions with B&f they have confirmed their kits will work with other sets, Higgins.
  7. Good luck with the pup Vin,he looks a belter, Higgins.
  8. thanks for that Matulkoh,i think that answers most of my questions enough to splash out and experiment on mixed setups, but the software B&f mention, what would that be for and would it make any difference without it?Also do you know if there are different versions of PIEPS boxes as i have seen pieps and also 'smart advanced' pieps is that an upgraded transciever?
  9. agree with a few people on here regarding cages/crates whatever,i never used one before but i am currently using a disused chinchilla cage simply because it was there and also just the right size for my terrier,as i said it was either that or risk annoying the neighbours with his recent barking, this is a temporary measure until i get an anti barking collar, and i must say i will use these means again as it is the most effective method of quieting the dog and not letting him run riot in the kitchen and chewing everything in sight which incidentally was worse than the barking as he chewed his w
  10. Matulkoh can you provide a link to where you buy your transmitter collar from, thanks, Higgins.
  11. Thanks for that pic ,Matulkoh, can you tell us what the transmitter on the collar is,what manufacturer, also do you know if the Bellman collars can work with the Barryvbox or the other way round also? Higgins. PS;In my previous posts i mentioned the frequency,i believe i quoted the wrong frequency, i think it's 457 kh,is this correct?Have you field tested both products and can you report on performances of either? Thanks again.
  12. that's a high price to pay for a terrier.....You can buy an average Fell terrier that would work twice as good if not more for a fraction of the price, any pics of this terrier and what has it done so far...? Higgins.
  13. Hi Greengrass, welcome to the forum pal, Higgins.
  14. The RSCA should be putting these foxes down not releasing them into the wild where they know they will be hunted anyway, but if i did the same thing i would be in a lot of trouble according to DEFRA, maybe we should question the RSPCA'S policy on what they do with the foxes once they have been 'cared' for. Higgins.
  15. Me too GJ, i have a gut feeling the kits can be transferable, seen the pieps on Ebay too as avalanche transcievers,so if the transmitters are operating on the same frequencies then they will work together, i believe the frequency has to be very clear of interference because the lives of people could possibly be at stake in a snow burial situation, also the transmitters nust be compatible with most recievers whether it's Pieps or Ortovox and any others, so the the reliability and accurracy is paramount, these kits represent the best locating devices currently available, but IMO the Barryvox seem
  16. matulkoh, could you put some pics up of the ortovox collars, also did you say they WILL work with the BF reciever? Thanks, Higgins.
  17. Just been having a look at possible alternatives which could be used in place of Bellman & Flint terrier locators, does anyone have any experience of using one for terrier work? The reason is ,i have seen some Avalanche transcievers which use the same technology(DSP) that also use an analog search for a longer range or weak signals and can give audio tracking as well as digital. One such device called the Barryvox Mammut Pulse Avalanche transciever can do all this and i have seen several on Ebay usually in the states going for about £180,this is a considerable saving for the same or bette
  18. Common sense?A long time ago there may have been a situation where everyone had an abundance of it,in the world today it is all replaced by bungling officialdom, politicians and red tape!If you put all the high profile citizens of the politics world and other qualified people who run the country together there still would not be enough of it between them,i have more common sense in my A****hole and that ain't shit neither! Higgins.
  19. Are there any childlike illustrations in there?
  20. in the paper yesterday,a gang kidnapped one of the shop workers on his way home and forced him back to the shop premises and stole a cache of weapons. They were wearing army jackets and baseball caps and have been descibed as white, of large build in thier 30's,with manchester accents.Police are checking all CCTV footage both from The Food & Tipple convenience store on Tong Road,Little Lever where he was abducted from and Target Sports premises.
  21. Miffy77, will you be trying him on the red 'uns,if a terrier's got it in him be a shame not to try him, keep us updated, Higgins.
  22. would never buy a dog from Mayfield Kennels now named DOGS R'US,what a laugh that place is but they do sell terriers at very high prices, last time i was passing,i popped in to see what had changed and to get a collar for my terrier,i couldn't believe the prices, for example a jack russel was selling for £500 and the rest of the breeds were even pricier! Give us a PM if you don't get sorted,i've seen some pups for sale and i could go and have a look for you, other than that keep looking on these forums, all the best, Higgins.
  23. for all the nets i get my way you have to unravel them, you get 18 pound per hour, but i could get lots of orders which need to be unravelled quickly,if you want variety i could occasionally get the odd sleeping hammock in to break the monotony, or the tennis and football nets ,you may need some net repairing skills as some of these will no doubt require repairing,if you have no criminal records and no history of alcohol, drugs and fraud convictions + you are an early riser and can work very long hours(sometimes never seeing your family for weeks),must be able to eat on the job as there are no br
