I have recently turned to pcp airguns and had limited funds. Originally I was going to buy a single shot BSA Ultra (£301 best online price at the time) then I came across a pre AT S410 .177 with scope and three magazines for £275 and am very pleased with it and it looks beautiful. Mate just purchased a HW100K hardly used with scope and everything else including a certified dive bottle for £500, he's new to airguns but loves it too. All have great reviews and really the decision comes down to cost.

Another great shooting adventure, well done Matt.

Great video Rew, always a pleasure to watch.

Great going Matt. Just started using that Ultrafire mod of yours on my S410 and its a great combination. Are you going to try this R10 with the Ultrafire at night soon? Regards Chris

Wish I had my camera with me this morning walking the dog up on the river Parrett, spent fifteen minutes quietly following an otter along the river whilst it was hunting for crayfish, had some really close full views at less than five metres away.

Relaxing in the Somerset countryside, anything more would of been a bonus. Chris

Pigeon Shooting With Air Rifles
chrismdd replied to Kent_keith's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Hi Keith, These are the ones I use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jack-Pyke-Decoy-Lofting-Hook-Pigeon-Crow-/291110476684?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item43c7895b8c But as said by others you can easily make your own, however, these ones do sway nicely and make the decoy look natural, a long thickish garden cane is generally enough to get them up to be seen, or have fun and climb the trees. Great read, but obviously very frustrating for you at times. Chris

Went out for a couple of hours this evening up at the copse. Got to the first field before the copse and spied a nice adult rabbit five feet out from the hedge 30yds away. However, there was a hedge between me and the rabbit that allowed a bit of cover to get closer but then I had to do a bit of shifting position to find a suitable clear gap through. Headshot and ran five yards out into the field and dropped dead. Collected him and headed to the copse, settled down in my usual place back against a tree with some fallen branches in front and waited. Within five minutes a couple of amorous rabb

I take and eat a lot of crayfish and have a couple of these traps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-METAL-CRAYFISH-TRAP-LIVE-BAIT-EEL-SHRIMP-PRAWN-FISH-CRAB-DROP-CAGE-NET-POT-/200769011979?pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&hash=item2ebec4010b However, when I got them a couple of years ago they were only £9 so I don't understand his prices now unless its a typo or the Polish have got money to burn? Definitely avoid the collapsible net ones they just don't last from bitter experience. My recommendation would be to go for something like this which is EA approved: http://www.e

Went worming for wild brownies a couple of days ago with a mate who came up from Devon. We fished all the snaggy swims where no one else fishes, in two hours I had only two missed bites but my mate had two beautiful brownies each about 2 lb. He had to use a single swan shot to keep the worm trickling along the bottom to get a take, as soon as the bait was motionless there were no takes. Best times we find are between 8 and 10am before the sun is too high. We only take our limit and return any real big ones and never take any less than 10 inches. Hardly fished round here as it is difficult with

Nice going Matt that's impressive shooting, I may have to try those superdomes in my S410, these are nice guns that Air Arms make. The only issue with my secondhand 410 that I have only owned for a couple of weeks (its a 2005 model) is I noticed a very slight escape of air when I pumped it up to 190, going to see the guru Bond to have a look at it. Keep up the good shooting and reports, and also see you on the AAOC forum. Regards Chris

Pigeon Shooting With Air Rifles
chrismdd replied to Kent_keith's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Hi Keith, Check out this chaps videos on youtube, he knows what he is doing and has got a whole series of these clips: Just acquired my own pcp multi-shot Air Arms S410 so will be trying this myself this year. Chris -
Well after using the new FX pump to charge the rifle yesterday I decided to go out for an hour this morning. So off to bed at 12:30am with the alarm set for 5am. Woke up to be greeted with overcast conditions and a very heavy dew (not great for rabbits) but undeterred decided to venture out. Walked five minutes up the road and entered the first fields and slowly made my way to the little copse. Only saw a few out which were either too far away or just very young ones. Decided to creep slowly through the copse which was a bit of a bad mistake as it was akin to walking across a field of 'rice kr

Well it was that time of year again to get my four jills jabbed. Usual local vet now wanted £87 to do all four that included a 'small animal inspection health check', phoned around hoping for a better offer and another came back with £170 . Starting to despair at the costs and thinking about long term getting a hob done (that's £190 to do) or get the jills permanently neutered but that was £99 each! Then one of the vets I had previously phoned called to say they could do all four for £38 , they are an out and out agricultural practice who use the drug a lot and even to occasional fer

Hi, Thinking of putting my old (80's) Feinwerkbau Sport 127 (.22) up for sale to make way for some much needed funds. The gun works fine but would benefit from a strip-down as I can only remember once in the last 20 years that it has had a replacement spring and piston seal put in on two separate occasions. It comes with a Nikko Stirling gold crown 4x40 wide angle scope (which I have always admired for clarity). There is also a basic ally silencer attached. The gun was used mainly for hunting during the 80's and then used on and off since then for a bit of plinking and the odd pige

Well with thanks to my ferreting buddy who saw an advert in a local store I am now the proud owner of an Air Arms S410 in .177 format that came with moderator, Hawke Nite Eye 6.5-20 x 50 scope, 3 good mags, 2 more for spares, the dive bottle gauge and connector as well as two tins of Daystates. The gun is pre-anti-tamper and looks in excellent condition and has been well cared for by its previous owner. All for £275 so should hopefully see me with a good weapon for a number of years to come. At present the gun is fully charged and the seller says I'm welcome to pop over anytime to charge i

Cheers Rik, I forgot about Bartletts down at Bridport and looking at their website they stock the Air Arms and BSA guns so be good to compare. Maybe I'll cycle down to West Bay again to pick up some more nets on my annual 60 mile round trip now that the tunnel has re-opened. Probably get down there next week during the school holidays. Do you want to try some longnetting soon? or an evening out with the rifles? Going to get the crayfish traps set soon and hit the brown trout next week. Also thanks for the offer Villaman I may take you up on that offer if I still can't make my mind up a

Great response guys and much appreciated. So now I need to go and check out these rifles in the flesh (including the S200 - thanks for the heads up Timmytree). Just need to find a suitable gunshop in the Somerset area (or Dorset Devon borders) - any suggestions? Or further afield as a friend is a RFD so delivery will be okay. Chris

Right been looking at lots of reviews and technical data and the more you search the more you get pros and cons that leaves someone like me a bit more confused coming from the springer era as to what is best for me. So here are some questions you may be able to shed some light on. With my limited budget I was initially intending to go for a BSA Ultra .177 single shot (£301 best price I've seen - but images show older non-bolt action gun?) and get a decent pump with moisture trap (any recommendations?). I would then use the scope from my FWB Sport 127 until I can purchase a newer model and

Hi mc, I originally picked up the information here and then contacted matty who was more than helpful with advice: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/312828-ultrafire/ The beam on the torch is just right for my borrowed HW97K and working small fields and copses it doesn't throw out excess light to anyone around, so nice and stealthy. Chris

Well with the recommendations from Matt as to the mod for the red ultrafire that included a new lens and black paint with the associated links I now was eager to try the new torch out. Not the best of nights condition wise due to it being quite light and not a breath of wind so I only went out the back of the house for an hour. Fired a total of four shots for these nice condition bunnies: Not bad for a torch set-up for less than a tenner and a borrowed HW97K. Many thanks Matt for the advice on the torch. Chris
