  1. Set off today on my sea fishing kayak for a freshwater trip up the river with my lad. Start of the adventure and the weather looks changeable: Welcomed away on our little adventure by the friendly locals: Had to endure a bit of character building in the form of an 'amazon style monsoon': But the weather turned out nice and a stop for lunch was called for: Then down to the serious business of catching the 'hidden monsters': And what adventure would be complete without a 'celebrity selfie': Further explorations will be needed in the futu
  2. Cheers guys. Yes its a Diawa Mission Shelter that I've had for a number of years for specimen fishing the occassional overnighter. Worked so well that pigeons at times landed within ten yards of us and confidently started feeding. With the hedge behind and a full camo net over the top you could not see us inside at all. Just about to settle down to a pasta, bacon and pigeon breast tea. Chris
  3. We had a planned a days shooting up at my place for Tim and his mate Dave to come up from Devon. As it takes a bit of organising so we are all free of work and kids we don't like to cancel so when we realised that Monday would be very blustery and with the the possibly of heavy showers we decided to have a go anyway. On the Sunday Tim gave me a call and was fuming after he joined a local gunclub in Devon and took along his HW100. Whilst there another member mentioned to him that his barrel was slightly loose and that he would fix it for him. Tim also mentioned that the gun had just acquired a

    Nothing

Still good to be out though. I find if we've had a lot of rain the first dry evening sees a lot of rabbits out early round here. Also something I've noticed is that at this time of the year early evening sees a lot of rabbits out then as the light fades there are a lot less around until well into darkness when they venture out again. My only conclusion from this is that with the fading light foxes are out on the prowl of the hedgelines with their keen eyesight but eventually in full darkness the rabbits can remain hidden from view.
  5. Well its been a little while since I put up a post so here it is. Been out on a few trips out to various permissions and getting a good few rabbits here and there but nothing out of the ordinary to report then it was time for the family holiday to Cornwall staying on a cottage on a farm near Looe. We went down in my old discovery and whilst down there I noticed a fluid leak from the rear wheel, it wasn't brake fluid so just kept an eye on it over the week. Returned home last Saturday evening and then went up the road to my parents place to pick up the dog and my S410 that had been left there
  6. Great choice of gun. I've only recently converted to pcp and the aa S410 is my first (and will be my last) as it is absolutely fantastic and looks great. Having great success on the rabbits and am so confident with it that I will soon be doing more pigeon decoying with it when the crops are cut. You will love it.
  7. Sorry to hear about the leg Timmy, hope it gets better soon. When I went to the cut pea field in the evening just after they cut it there were a few pigeons out feeding on it so I'll try and find time to get up there and have a go soon. You've been doing well on the pigeons looking at your posts on AAOC. I've just got rid of 'rip-off' BT and just switched over to TalkTalk for a lot better service with more features and less than half the price of BT. Unfortunately with TalkTalk Homesafe the AAOC website is blocked as it comes under 'Violence and Weapons' yet this site passes okay . Nee
  8. Just got myself three more ferrets to join the others ready for next season so decided to pop out and get them some fresh food to help them settle in. Went to a barley/grass field that will be cut for silage in the next few days and settled down at the top of the field in a tramline leading to a well eaten 'half-moon. Well is wasn't long before the first bunnies arrived, however due to my concealment three young rabbits came out less than six yards from the end of the barrel. Decided to leave these for the ferreting season and anyway they were too close to focus on so just lay still a
  9. Great read, enjoyed that.
  10. Do the family food shop at ASDA or go shooting? Well it had to be shooting, the kids can eat bread for tea! Drove out to the permission at just before 8pm and first had a quick look up in the pea field, there is only one well eaten patch where the rabbits can be seen, a few were out but spooked easily so I'll try that later on. Went back over to the grass field and had a check where the rabbits were out before opening the noisy gate and deciding on a new ambush point out in the field in a strip of uncut grass: Settled down and awaited the bunnies. After about 20 minutes the first customer
  11. We were 'course fishing' Newkid. And Air Gun Ant: I remember when I was a lad and was fishing down on the levels and I spied a squirrel that had crossed the bridge and was now feeding down on the other side of the river next to me. As I looked up it spied me and the only trees were now on my side of the river. It was like a scene from a comedy clip, we both looked at each other then both looked up towards the bridge one more look at each other as I grabbed the landing net and we both ran for the bridge. We were both level with each other and the squirrel obviously didn't want to take h
  12. Well almost a year on and decided to take a break from the airgun as the freezer is full of rabbits. So as last year I took my seven year old down the road to rove for some chub freelining with black slugs. The banks as before are steep and overgrown so caution was needed on this unfished section of the river. In two hours roving we managed seven nice chub ranging from 2.5 lb up to 3.5 lb. Not bad for a river that in places you can jump over. Also whilst tackling up at one point we looked up to see a hare just ten yards away, never seen one this close to home before. My lad
  13. Cheers Moxy, I just saw this on youtube, he definitely makes it sound better so will give it go before I bin it:
  14. Well with work not being so hectic at the moment I decided it was time for another session or two. So Thursday evening I headed out the back of the house with the intention of trying to decoy some crows. All looked promising when I walked into the newly cut grass field as a few crows took off. Went round to the barley field and bagged a young rabbit for bait and set this out with the decoy in the grass field near my natural hide. Waited a good hour but no crows came near, even tried my old acme crow caller but this was no good (sounds more like a demented duck - are there better callers on the
  15. Cheers guys, I'll give that a go at the weekend. Regards Chris
  16. Hi, My old man's HW97K has a acquired a niggling fault. The ball mechanism on the end of the underlever has stuck in the release position so that it only just holds in position under the barrel, but then as soon as you fire it the lever drops down. We've had a look at the mechanism but can't see how to unstick it or take it apart, there appears to be some sort of pin further back on the underlever. So any suggestions to overcome this issue much appreciated. Chris
  17. Really enjoyed that. Shooting where a lot of effort needs to be put in but the rewards are incredible. Many thanks for posting, please post some more.
  18. Cheers for the comments lads, Spent a long session yesterday from 9am to 9pm first decoying pigeons and then going for a few rabbits. First proper attempt at decoying pigeons with the airgun, we should of easily of had eight but only managed one. Others had a few more who have a lot more experience of shooting pigeons decoying with the airgun, need to practice quicker 'snap shooting' and being ready all the time, takes 100% focus but it is a challenge. I know many of you will say use a shotgun but I've done all that years ago and prefer the rifle and the challenge. Most of those eight pige
  19. Great shooting and a very nice mixed bag.
  20. Lately this week the heavy downpours we've been having round here have not endeared me to venture out. Then along comes the first decent evening on Thursday and I had already committed myself to helping our local fishing club clear some swims on the river Parrett in preparation for the new river season. Once finished I thought I'd just go and have a look other areas on the new permission. Arrived there to see another shooter out stalking rabbits so decided to quietly leave him to it and headed home. Well this evening I decided it was time and got down there for 7:30pm. Walked up onto the pea
  21. It is still for sale. But I am waiting for an approximate valuation from another website but have yet to hear anything, so if you or others know a reasonable offer then ask away. regards Chris
  22. Hi Charlie, I haven't much idea what to ask for so am going to put a valuation query on another airgun forum then update this one. Chris
  23. Sadly funds are needed towards repairing my car so this airgun is up for sale. Originally this was purchased in the mid-80s and was a great hunting rifle. It comes with a simple alloy silencer and sling. Also included is a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown 4x40 Wide Angle scope that gives a very clear image that puts my modern Hawke to shame! It has over the years not been getting the use it deserves and so needs to go to someone who will use or bring it back to its former glory. The gun is in full working condition and had an original spring and piston seal put in two years ago. The stock could d
  24. Great shooting this is something I'm starting to try to master. Some flocked crow decoys arrived in the post yesterday and I've got a couple of whole small rabbits in the freezer for bait. The idea of using a pigeon belly up with plucked feathers sounds a good one. What cover did you use to remain hidden from the eagle-eyed crows? both hide and personal cover and do you use a caller? and any other tips you would recommend. Chris
  25. Haven't posted for a while apart from on the AAOC forum. Really enjoying the handling and looks of this Air Arms and have been doing a lot more target practice to fully appreciate holdover and windage in a range of conditions. Here are a few images from some of my more recent trips out: A bit of decoying; A shared bag with a HW100K over two hours (11-4 to the S410 including two hat-tricks): A quick hour trip before the rain: Taking my lad out for the first time: Regards Chris
