  1. Hi Oakey, Yes I did start to clear some of the debris away but I was a bit concerned that human scent may prevent a decent bolt. Chris
  2. Hi folks, Managed my first trip of the season and went alone with my sandy jill to tackle a couple of warrens on my new permission. These were big old thick hedgerows and so were quite daunting to tackle by myself but I had my locator ready and went for it. As the hedge is on a bank most of the holes were going out into the field and so netting from one side was not too bad. A few holes out in the field were easily netted but those in the thick of the hedge were at times a nightmare. Waht made it worse was that the side of the hedge had been cut by the farmer a month ago and so there w
  3. Hi ellir0305 and Sparko, Cheers for the replies, yes it would be great to make up a hunting team as I've realised that once you've got permission from one landonwer it gets easier as you need the permission of the adjacent ones. I'm out this weekend at the Landrover show at the Bath and West showground so I'll get back to you later. Ellir0305 when I was at lad at Huish school in langport we used to ferret up near redhill in Curry. There was a lady there who owned a large woodland who gave permission, maybe this area could also be rekindled. I only live 5 miles from langport and
  4. Cheers for the constructive comments and advice I've just surveyed part of the land and where most of the rabbits seem to be (they destroyed over an acre of wheat there this year!) the 4 metre wide ancient hedge is actually on a large bank and the rabbits seem to be holed up on one side with thier burrows going out into the field so I think I'll try these first. Last year I got one of them orange deben locators (I've still got the grey box one from1983 and it still works!) Took your advice and got a couple of gate nets. What are the best type of sticks/posts to put them up with?
  5. Hi folks, Second post after new members section. I'm just rekindling my joy of ferreting from when I was a lad. I've got the gear and last year did my first outing on our own bit of land and managed a few rabbits for both first time ferrets. However, my dilemma is that I've now been given plenty of local land and permission but I don't really have anyone dedicated enough to come along and help. All the warrens are situated in thick hedgerows and small fields and when I was a lad you needed two to ferret them properly. So my question is does anyone have any helpful advice or ideas o
  6. Hi folks, Just joined the forum. Getting back into ferreting which I once did a lot as a lad years ago. Got the gear, the land and permission and lots of rabbits. Based in South Somerset its mainly small fields and overgrown hedges!! Also do a bit of shooting (S/S 12 bore, and .22 air rifle FWB Sport) but I still prefer to ferret using just nets. Oh and I do an awful lot of fishing mainly coarse and sea. Anyone wishing to come out ferreting just give us a call. Regards Chris
