sounds very much like a tick. cover it with vaserlene and it will suffecate the little sod and it will drop off. this time of year is a nightmare for ticks on ferrets, they can get them from working or from the clean straw or hay that we place in there hutch as bedding. A good bit of kit is some stuff called TICK OFF DROPS by johnsons pet products, all pet shops have it for dogs and cats, its about 2.99 a bottle.

As with all things air rifle, power without acuracy is worthless. The hw was the first air rifle to offer a powerfull punch on a consistant level shot for shot. it was built in a way that all german engernering is, built to last and so solid it will take away the need to pamper it as most modern pcp rifles do, it can take some stick. As a hunting rifle i still think it is hard to beat because it has all that a hunter requiers from a rifle, reliability, power, accuracy. Allthough a little on the heavy side i feel it is a hard rifle to better allthough the hw95 was sold as the hw80s little brot

Your right, the stuff is bloody awfull to work with and use in the field set it as a stop net last outing in direct sunlight and i swear you could see it withering and twisting out of shape. However, worked in close to hedges and bushes it doesnt get tangled. but sadly the cons outweight the pros

like most things in bussiness it all comes down to pounds, shillings and pence. I hazard a quess that the fenn and all its copys are no longer made in this country but manufacture farmed out to some far eastern workshop. I must admit that the fenns i have in my possesion are far better quality than any of the springer make but these were passed on to me many years ago, perhaps when they were still made in England? OTC, like you said if the mk6 is just a mk4 with larger jaws than surely fitting more powerfull springs would help aid the problem with mink? is it me or am i just over simplyfing th

Good question As a trapper always looking for better more humane ways to catch, i have spent many hours looking at animals caught in a fenn trap, be it a mk4 or a mk6 and one thing that stands out a mile is how differant the mk4 and 6 function. Sounds daft? let me explain. Firstly take the mk4, or more importantly the intended quarry of the mk4, the rat for instance. Look at the size of its frame in comparison to the mk4 trap. When you compare trap size to quarry size it soon becomes clear who the victor will be, and it isnt going to be the rat. Look at the area where the damage is going

Im posting this for iron man andy as hes a little shy of doing so himself. these are 2 knock down targets that andy has made when he should be working (what with me allways after help he doesnt get much done down his workshop  ). The one on the left is made up of 4 squares each with their adjoining corner clipped to make a center hole of 15mm. this has a bell behind it that when struck gives a resounding clang indecating a hit. If you miss however all you hear is a dull thud. The one on the right is a rat that when hit on the 25mm kill zone, falls over. If you hit the rat anywhere

Keeping with mink trapping, as mentioned in my last post most of the rivers round this way hold otters. This being the case it is important to use a trap where an acidental capture of an otter can result in it being released un-harmed. Thus comes into its own the cage trap. These mink cages i make myself using 12gage steel weld mesh. It is cut into 4 pieces of 30inchx10inch. 2 pieces of 10x10inch and a piece of 8x7 inch. but thats 7 sides i hear you shout, all will be explained once all sides and the spare piece are cut a box needs to be formed by welding the 6 sides together then at one

CW. thanks for the offer of a chat, i will take you up on it one evening. The body grips you mention i have used on rats as well as ther tree loving brethran but not on mink. This has not been out of a desire to stay within my comfort zone but just out of sticking with what i know. This doesnt meen that what i know is best, just that i seem to stick with what i know. And true, as a forward looking modern pester we owe it to ourselves to look further than the ends of our nose, so the chance of a chat may be taken sooner rather than later.

I for one arnt suggesting that we should be aloud to use all methods both fair and foul, just saying that if as some have suggested that the fenn mk6 isnt up to the job its designed to do, then surely the law (list of lawfull traps) relating to LAWFULL traps be revised. I was just trying to put across that i was carrying out this form of trapping within the law with a trap as deemed lawfull and not in anyway suggesting anything other than that

Just came back to see what folk have posted in reply and guess what.........CW has deleated his input quicker than the govenment at raising taxes is that man. Reading between the lines i guess the good old mk6 has come under some flak regarding not being up to the job to be honest i cant say that i feel they let the mink suffer. the majority of those ive caught have not been in the water on my return. Sadly we have to work with what the law allows.

One of the more common pests im called to deal with is Mink, they are on the increase here in suffolk more so than many other pest. Firstly when looking for trap site i will look for the minks meens of getting from one area to another. His prefered method is by way of river, ditch or dyke Once i have found a sutible site, one that has shown signs of mink ie. dropping, footprints in soft mud and the unpleasant scent of musk i will go about preparing the site as folows. Firstly i will dig out a ""cave "" going back in to the bank, at water level deep enough to allow the trap to sit in both

Heres a pic of the fenn mk3 that i found, as you can see its next to a mk6 for a comparrison in size. it has stamped on the trigger plate Fenn mk3 so there is no disputing the makers of origin. The terthering chain is differant to any i have seen on any fenn, its pressed oblong rather than round link. this is the only mk 3 ive seen so i couldnt say if this is the norm on a mk3.

What are the advantages of an FAC airrifle ?
mole catcher replied to john b's topic in Airgun Hunting
[Looked at one of these, but it is running at 28-30 ft lbs, which is ok, but would rather 36-40 ft lbs. Why go for such a high amount of power? im running at 22ftlbs and at a measured 65yrds it is pin point accurate and enough power to drop rabbits with no fear of injury at that range.
