  1. where abouts in the country are you?
  2. Besides, at the right time of the year i use them to catch ducks as well (crispy duck cooked chinese style MMMmmm)
  3. sounds like the nets i and some folk call poke nets i have a few 5.5 ft purse nets that are double peggers(poke nets) for where you have a large hole that has caved away leaving a hole to big for one standard purse net(not that there is a standard size for a purse net) Now, these poke nets i use have rings not sliders fitted and i think they close much faster than a single pegged net because of the two draw cords(this halves the traveling distance of the ring/slider) so in my own opinion i feel it is the fact it is double pegged and not that it is rigged with a slider that is in fact cau
  4. ive got 2 that dont realy get on, put them in the same box and WOW, one of them drops a stink bomb. now that is nasty  even more so when your in the van
  5. Change the water every day even changing the water every day they still get the green algie (spelling?) build up
  6. totally agree, however i am one of those people that is alway right only when the wife says you are i bet
  7. would it not be easier to make a smaller cage for mink (say 6x6 ), than make one that size so an otter can get in ?not having a go , just a suggestion it was made 10x10 because thats the size the mesh came in and as im a lazy bugger i thought sod it, 10x10 it will be
  8. IM WITH FERRETERNO1 ON THIS, GOT SOME ON MY HANDS WHILST CLEANING THEM OUT, DIDNT REALISE AND ITCHED MY NOSE BIG MISTAKE
  9. BUMPED TO THE TOP FOR LEON, SORRY TO ALL WHO HAVE ALLREADY SEEN THIS
  10. hello leon, i make all my own cage traps, just vary them a little for differant species. i put up a post on building mink traps the other month. i will bubmp it to the top for you, have a look under mink, cage traps.
  11. I'd be interested to know how you figured out the cat had been in the trap for two days? Best way to prevent the cat from getting trapped is to keep it in the house, that way all the wild birds and animals will also be safe. __________________ The Big Man the above is taken from the link from fletcher. seems theres more than one of us wondering how the owner knew it was trapped for two days. the botom line is at no point in our lifetimes will we ever see an end to this argument about hunting/pest control, the rights and wrongs of it i meen. unfortunately narrow mindedness wins
  12. If we look at it from a basic level about friction surely it is the pull cord that is to blame not the ring/slider? A ring made from 3mm steel wire and a slider made from 3mm steel wire are made out of the same stuff, just fabricated differantly. add these to a net that has cords of say 6mm braid has a surface area touching steel of 12mm (2cords of 6mm =12mm surface area) possible if it didnt have a centre core (flat braid). if you have cords of 3mm the surface area would be 6mm (2x3mm=6mm) meening that the area that is touching the cord is halved thus causing less friction, thus giving you a
  13. MOLEY: agree with what your saying but, anyone who owns a cat (me included) will know cats will and do wonder sometimes for days. true, i dont know all the facts and im not saying that things in the real world all pan out as they do in the ideal world. accidental captures do and will happen, you know that, i know that as do all trappers. as for getting an appology, well we all know that in a lot of peoples eyes if you have anything to do with killing fluffy animals you up there on the hate list with Fred West. HEART OF WALES, true there is a lot of products out on the market that dont requ
  14. you had a good sniff yet?
  15. sadly i think you will find the trapper himself is to blame for his/her own stupidity. Had the trapper followed the law and checked the trap at least once within 24hours as is requiered by law the cat owner would have been non the wiser. sadly a lot of trappers would have chose to kill the cat rather than release it as is law, as killing a cat(domestic pet) is classed as willfull destruction of property/animal cruelity. before anyone has a go at me for my comments im not an anti, im a full time trapper of moles and other animals and i have to respect the law regarding traps, if i dont the
  16. a big blob of the stuff works, just as matyj said they breath through their skin. SUFFERCATE THE LITTLE SODS INTO SUBMISSION
  17. How old is the ferret in the pic? is he a young hob going through his first season as all my first season hobs have done the same over the years ive kept them. they seem to get realy dirty by rubbing themselves all over the quaters and sometimes this includes their dung corner. if your very brave stick your nose up close and ave a good sniff, this will tell you if its shite  Ive a hob at the moment who looks the same, like you say, nothing a good bath wont cure
  18. micky, juist having a bit of fun trying to find out why sliders are the wonder invetion that some think they are localyokel, my thoughts exactly  duckwing, how if you dont share you opinions will i ever find out what im missing  hob&jill, keep at him, maybe he will tell you
  19. OK, just for research reasons im asking all ferreters for JUST ONE REASON EACH why they think sliders are better than rings? Again just for research im going to try and answer why they serve no better than the good old fashioned ring. PLEASE NOTE: this is not ment to start a row about whos methods are best, so please no personal remarks
  20. POINT OF QUESTION: If having rings on you purse nets makes them function in such a poor fashion, how come the sliders didnt replace them hundreds of yrs ago, leaving the ring to fade away into history?Surely it is the rabbit hitting the net that causes it to purse, is this not the most important thing about a purse net, that it is big enough in shape that it will hold a rabbit? It seems to me that field sports have become alot like carp fishing, you dont need half of what you have in your kit but it makes you look better on the day. Are we not becoming a little bit obsessed with having th
  21. oh boy do they if like me you have cats coming into your garden and looking into the ferret run though the wire there is a good chance you will have fleas on your ferrets. if you continue to feed fur and feather all year round you stand an even bigger chance of passing on fleas, skin any rabbits first as they are riddled with them at this time of the year. everyone uses differant ways to rid ferrets of fleas, if like me you dont like chemicals try tea tree shampoo for dogs, a bucket of warm water, a quick dunk upto the neck, then a dunk in clean water and bobs you uncle. as it is herbal
