i have a pup bred that way mate, lookin forward to finding out!
-
i love the wheatens... good thread, anymore???
-
i shouldnt have watched it because i knew before i sat down it was goin to be stupid crap that would make my blood boil!!! and where do they get this "torn apart" crap from??? foxes and hares get caught and killed with a powerful bite or else shake.. even when i run 2 lurchers i've never witnessed them "tear apart" anything... not even a rabbit, if they spotted one when off loose!! although the badger baiting segment is just the village idiots letting us down and getting caught on tape doin it... a badger should be dug to then humanlay despatched using a firearms, not trailed round a field wit

i had a few but only a couple of them showed interest in fox, most were backend biters and barkers...

YOUNG PUPS LETS SEE YOUR PICTURES
old school replied to HAPPY HUNTER's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its hard to get good photo of him but this is axle... 3/4greyhound 1/4wheaten -
just curious and pardon a silly question but if he's double bred back to golly does that make the pup less than half greyhound as well!!
-
my first lurcher was a whippet/grey... stood at 24tts and took anything i pointed her at!! she tore her skin alot though and was gettin stitched regularly but a brilliant bitch... would give my right arm for another like her!!

old school replied to daz280597's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
aye, drive by shooters is what we have here too... you'd think by they way they go on that if they got out of the car they might get a chill lol.. i like the odd shot myself but the problem when it comes to shootin and alot of shooters is the numbers game!! found a few new places to run the dog and luckily the landowner only lets me on so rabbits etc are fairly green and you can get the odd lamp even on bright nights -

class lookin dogs there rab!!! ye must have a lot of work for them all?? i'm findin it hard to get ground thats not lamped silly round my way -
if your ground is anything like mine then you'll need something with a top gear!! i like 3/4grey in the mix... i prefer terrier blood as alot of them are fairly reliable when taking foxes and they are not all necessarily hard mouthed when it comes to catching rabbits and such... with 3/4 greyhound blood you will probably get use out of him with hares and stuff if foxes arent his thing.. jmo

aye do mate, be nice to see him... the bitches he had left were really fine and racey but its a shame they were smooth... a bitch is what i'd planned on at the start
-
in situations where the fox is hangin round the hedge and will come no further i like to run a knife down a rabbit and leave it within slippin distance and lie and wait... you could wait quite a while in a cold night and it seems a life time lol...

foxing with lurchers preban dvd
old school replied to saluki bouy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
as far as i know there only is 2 dvds on the market that contain nothing only foxes... one is by andrew and its all collie crosses working on the fells... its very very good! the other is the wrecking crew dvd and for viewability its second to none IMO.. it runs for 2hrs and 15mins or so and its back to back action... sporting days done 3 volumes of "one man and his dogs" with lamping hares, rabbits and foxes although the 1st one is the best by far, the other 2 would be worth a lend of but i wish i never bought them.. -
sounds a nice pup and a working mans price... maybe somebody will put a pic up for you??
-
thanks for all the replies... that pup you got turned out a real stunnin article mate... cleanspade, the mum looked very like your ozzy only slightly racier, i really took a fancy to her.. i never got to see her work but i know of the lad and he doesnt breed from rubbish so my fingers are crossed...
-
lookin forward to keepin you's updated on his progress... off out tonight with the bullx hopefully this time next year i'll have him at the stage she is now... she's pickin up lampin fairly quick
-
Looks like you found yourself a nice little pup. [/b] thanks collie/grey, he's all wormed up and he just needs a good wash
-
a wanted ad on here might have saved ye a lot of hassle mate... were you over to see him or was it sent over?? how do you order a pup, is it just a matter of tellin him what cross your after and he has it?? forgot to add, he's a lovely lookin animal mate
-
meet Axle... some of you might recall i'd been on the search for a wheaten cross for a very long time... i've finally got what i'm after... 3/4 grey 1/4 wheaten... dam, a heavy set half cross that worked alot with terriers and the sire was a big 28" coursing greyhound... i'm hopin he'l throw a rougher coat when he's older but he's nice all the same... very lively and a very good eater, eats anything lol... he wasn't a ridiculous price either, very pleased!! thanks to ferreter ni for putting me onto him....
-
the worst cross i had was a collie/grey but a mate had a blindin one that worked hard regular...the collie/grey i had jogged after rabbits and then went nose down and was gone for most of the night... also had a whippet/grey that was first class on whatever aimed at but she was torn most of the season with the brambles...
-
i enquired into a bull/collie x grey pup for quite a while because i liked the thought of an intelligent and brave dog but i mostly found that it was usually a case of breeding and arse biter to the bullx with the hope of getting something useful... i agree alot with the above statement, it takes 2 of the best dogs you can find to get a result...
-
to be honest i think the rabbit is a bit expensive... if you look at warreners dvd its him that does the callin which doesnt say very much for the sound quality in the rabbit IMO
-
thought i'd put this up

whats ya think of the deerhound greyhound bull greyhound
old school replied to daz280597's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i think if you were adding a bull cross then 1/4bull 3/4grey would throw racier type pups...
