  1. If anyone in or around NW who has established busher(s) fancies a mooch pm me....pup is now 5 months old so would quite fancy getting him out with bushers that are already doing the business if possible.
  2. Come boxing day, the kid will come back in stinking of fox shit and the parents will be straight on here looking for a bull cross! You watch!
  3. I have them and the ones I keep are good but I often reared a bad one as well,so I would say they are much the same as anything else.some great some useless, some average.breeding is everything as with all working dogs.if your spaniel in the cross barks it is a help because a fair few springer beagles have poor or no voice even if hunting well, but when you get a good one with the drive for cover and voice they are hard to beat, most are easier to control than pure hounds, have more of a brain and search cover better but would not hold a line cross country as well as a hound.they are ideal for hun
  4. when I started out I used 4oz nylon ones for ages....I would literally spend 3/4 of each session trying to untangle them, they are bad to the point of being unusable!
  5. I use mk3 currently, but I must admit I prefer the mk1 box. I just think it does what you need and there's no need for anything more, if that makes sense?
  6. the only problem I'd have with the dummy method, is the fact that once I'd thrown the dummy into the bushes the first time my pup probably wouldn't go and get it....which means I'd have to, and that would get painful after a while
  7. I've never had a reason to wank another man off but I wouldn't tell someone not to do it. Each to their own I would, it's disgraceful!
  8. Any busher that cannot interact with a lurcher is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike, any busher that fails to service an attendant lurcher is as useless as the same motorbike without an engine. And that post is about as helpful as both!
  9. Yeah when I go ferreting he'll rag the dead rabbits....I have to put them out of his way or he's obsessed. I think he's just much too young at the moment tbh, I'll see what the next couple of months bring.
  10. How do you know it won't bump into a kid when out and about? Scary that people have dogs running loose that they know can be aggressive towards kids! Not being funny pal, but I can't think of many things that are more irresponsible for a dog owner.
  11. thats it mate flapping around/ panicking , i get all the feckin while with my 2 dogs , more so with the big one , even though he as daft as brush , ive told them 100 times he soft , i am pissed of of telling them . I know what you're saying, but if you own an aggressive dog and get it on a lead when people/dogs approach, there's nothing more annoying than some soppy tit letting their dog walk up to you anyway and telling you that their dog is ok....especially when you are blatantly putting yours on because it attacks other dogs!
  12. There is no rest of the pack, I have a lurcher, and 4 month old beagle/terrier mix. Going to take him out first light where there's loads of rabbits to see what he does, at the moment he focuses lot on what my lurcher is doing, it will be interesting to see how he responds without her there. Not worried really as he's very young, but just want to avoid any pitfalls if I can.Could it be worth keeping the lurcher on the slip for half an hour or so out of each mooch? Let the busher get confident in venturing off on its own?He wouldn't though, he'd just stay mithering her. Took him out on his ow

  14. Following on from Squabs thread (didn't want to hijack his)...is it important to get a busher pup out on it's own when bringing it on? mine is only 4 months so still far too young to do anything of use, but so far all I've been doing is taking him out with my lurcher and letting him follow her round. Is it best to mix it up a bit with some lone time also? He does follow her around when looking for stuff, but slowly he's starting to notice scents on his own too. Just wondered what people's thoughts were on this. Has anyone else had dogs ruined by only following other dogs and not doing it
  15. If there's something in its DNAthat means it can fight off the disease it could very well pass those genes to its offspring, I would also leave it be.....not sure my dogs and ferrets would though!
  16. That time stamp on you photo could be misleading mateBloody dark for 9:17am! According to my camera I only go out on 1\1\2000 just after midnight.....it really doesn't matter! Unless of course, you're a nitpicker.
  17. Mine had similar at start of season, keep him off it for a few days and plaster in sudocrem few times a day, then stick to grass only til it's healed properly, I wouldn't go to the vets with that if I were you, no point, just need to let it heal.
  18. anyone else's lurcher a real pain in the ass when in season?

  19. in other words...get a Liverpool fan to discuss their title chances as soon as the ferret latches on!
  20. washing hands with washing up liquid before handling helps, as does making sure they are not hungry first. Ive had some really challenging ferrets, but even as little as 10-15 mins a day will sort them after 2 or 3 weeks. hold over the shoulders so they cant turn and bite holding hand, clench fist on other hand and let them sniff back of hand....clenched fist means its hard for them to latch on...you'll just get a nick if they try rather than full on hold. just takes a bit of time and patience.
  21. Meanwhile someone was getting burgled and they respond 2 hours later!
  22. He out hunting with his italian greyhound at the moment.
  23. I dream of that many rabbits! Nice work!
