Stock - Breaking
Giro replied to North Wales --- dig it ---'s topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Nothing wrong with using a collar Thing is its not a small pup, if it gets among sheep it will end in tears... If you are trying and failing its a good last resort.. I have had to use one, on one of my dogs. No shame in it.. Prior to that I have stock broken two terriers and two lurchers.. So it was not being lazy it was a better alternative than a lead buiscuit.. The bitch had been in sheep from a young age and just turned over night and ment business.. I went back to basics .. I had it so she would walk to heal and not bat a eye, but get any distance between us and she wa -
Its going to be a big strong type.. Good luck with it

My parents re homed a bull lurcher dog was a nightmare No recall and stock worring - actually pulling sheep all over feilds - worst thing I ever have seen .. They put a shock collar on it and it was cured. I know so many people disagree with them and think folk are lazy for using them.. I belive if used correctly and using positive rewards in correlation the dog learns quickly.. You dont have to blast them to the point of frying.. You can use the noise function which they respond to. Each to there own and all that but you may find useful vids on you tube with searches lik

Both dog and bitch look corkers.... Best of luck with the pups

Drunk on Duty Been decent thread .. Good to see some old pictures.. I am off to bed, no beer in the house I am just melting away

I have had some before but it was probly farmed It was nice was cooked rare all fancy veg and sauce proper resturant job. I have eaten that much rabbit I would rather eat super noodles now.. Had a rough spell when I was very short of funds it was tatty, onion, carrot & rabbit in the slow cooker, nearly everyday and brown bread On my bits we just have roe that can be a pain when working dogs in cover. I would imagine be a right pain where you get these big heards.. Bet a dog can smll them a mile off ?? Worst off it mine dogs would be more like fenton than freezer fill
-
Where they taken out in the open or when they hit cover ?? I must admit its not my thing. I would however of liked to see a proficient lurcher take to the task, it would be a eye opener for me. I recon it would be good getting regular beasts of that size for feeding yourself, family and dogs

Had a few scraps.. Fecking pain in the arse Had one ending up booted my pal in the shin so he was rolling around on the deck screaming Had a fawn bitch looked like a seasoned fox dog.. Poor thing had never seen a fox I just keep my old white bitch away from everything now.. Has no tolerance for dogs getting in her space he decked out pug which was no threat to her.. Always was fine in the feild when she kicked off it was warm sunny days out a walk or in the garden. I had to put her in a box in the van most of the time she was ok it was just not worth the risk..

I have to admit I never went out purposely after the big boys, but I'd be lying if I said it never happened. Being both a dog man and a gun man back then, I'd rather stick the rifle out of the truck window than piss about with the dog to be honest. Some of the lads I knocked about with then did it regular and made big money; there are few roe in that area and fallow are practically non-existent. Saw one of my old pals not long ago and he's out of the dog lark altogether now. I do, however, know that some lads are still at it, and still catching plenty. Those big dogs tend to just b

Did you get paid for the foxes Matt or just do it for the crack ??
-
I do know a lad that had a red stag with one dog.. It did slip on a road, when it was down the dog nabbed it. I was not there it happend a longtime ago, but doubt the man would make it up.. Matt did you catch the big stags ?? how did the dog work them ?? Grab a leg and cause a trip then hang on for grim death ?? Imagine it would be like watching a David Attenborough documentary.. keep the scanner warm and get some more pics Millet you behave yourself or you will get the sinbin Naa just start your own sausage thread mate
-
Was good of you to take the time to scan them pictures fella.. I liked the sausage picture
-
I honestly never reported it mate

Wheres that report button

Any old pictures mate ?? I've got some pictures of my old bitch around somewhere, but it would involve getting the scanner fired up.... If you want pictures of dogs with quarry forget it. This was all pre-digital camera days, and the blokes I knocked around with at that time wouldn't have been too keen on being photographed.... Fire it up mate Good write up What size and build where the dogs ?? Fair imprssive traveling three feilds and still hold the quarry till you got there.. To much dog for me lol I would end up in the jail around here

Any old pictures mate ??

Running lurchers is dangerous enough. I value my dogs to much to run them against big deer. Ban or no ban its not for me. Fair play to man and beast whom, did have a crack at them. I dont like venison than much either Give me leg of lamb any day, bet me dog could tackle them all day long

looking well fella

This is it mate.. Folk hammer bits early doors or claim mixys rattled through but they just piss and moan instead of knocking more doors down.. This year I would be intrested how many miles you clock up... Its got to be some crazy figure.. Got a few days permission hunting lined up for next couple of week.. Got a farm I ask at every year.. Always says no but I think I am wearing him down 5 years on Last year he said "no he has someone".. I telt him "he was not doing a very good job" , he laughted and said " I was right about that ... But no!" See what his crack this yea

Get some lights on your bike and wear a reflective bib.. you will end out knocked over or dead.. Pot hole are the least of your worries. Its some barn pot driving home from the pub doing 60 odd "cause no body will be out at this time" weaving down the back lanes.. wont see you and it will end in tears for everyone.. I aint increased any training still to hot for me.. Still be 18 degrees 10.30pm

Homemade Electrolyte Drink For Running Dogs ?
Giro replied to jackals_arrow's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
On the hardest nights of the season my dogs have never even taken a sip of water... I have even attempted to give them fluids but they dont want it.. Early season when its warm they will drink (September) but come the cold dark nights the hardly drink at all.. -
