  1. Twist my arm mate, Nero after a days shooting down country last week, he made just the one retrieve looking forward to a nice lazy summer nice shooting , T'was truely a fine day out, how times have come on since I wondered about with a BSA Meteor, he deserved the retrieve, he is as fit as fire and in lovely condition, gonna be a long summer, but he will have his first season before he knows it early indications are positive Thanks richard, I'm keeping them ticking over but it's bee a poor and frustrating season for me with numerous tranpo
  2. Some stunning looking Saluki everyone, good to see them getting the credit they deserve. Farouq and Ameerah Nura my Kazakh import coming soon
  3. I quite agree when tightly bred dogs are all 'good' then there is no problem but when bad qualities are double bred into them then things will deteriorate rapidly IMO. The kizzy line is now starting to hit that troubled point mainly thanks to the peddlers rather than the coursing circles.
  4. I think that in breeding for placid easy going temperament you could easily breed out true 'desire' and prey drive. On the whole thought I believe you are right in that most with corrct upbringing would make servicable hunting dogs perhaps not a coursing competition winning dog but then saluki were never truly a competition dogs anyway. Where pot fillers and predator controllers.
  5. he can be abit agressive more so as hes got older kizzy both sides in the breeding might be something to do with that Mine are the same, interestingly in a book I read called "Owned by an Eagle" the author has a Saluki he import back with him from Africa and it has the very same attitude that mine and I believe yours to also have towards strange and unknown dogs. Of course this is typical of all primitive dogs but you have to wonder whether this was encouraged and select for in certain parts of there COO perhaps in regions where they used for hunting
  6. He's a real looker no doubt! Whats he like with other strange/unknown dogs? Regards Mark
  7. You've totally nailed it with that post Skycat! Thats why I keep them.
  8. Some interesting comments, some clearly based on very little first hand experience. I started out with lurcher's but was disheartened by the constant stream of injuries they incurred in the line of their work and quickly came to conclusion that Salukis suited my needs better than lurcher's despite never running them on the fens, they are much more robust and durable than the average lurcher, the difference in speed if there is any is negligible IMO, personally I've not found my Salukis to be slower than any of my lurcher's. They actually consistently take more game out mooching than my lur
  9. Great read! It reads almost like I'm there and seeing happen!
  10. Thanks Grim, I've checked over what you mentioned and there is nothing obvious that I can see although I did tighten up the filling valve a bit more than it was so perhaps that could be the problem time wil tell I guess. Thanks again for your help and a happy new year to you. Mark
  11. Hi Folks, As the topic title and description says my AA410 is loosing all pressure over a day or so, can anyone suggest anywhere reliable that I get it sorted and a good service? Regards Mark
  12. 1 gen mark kc ....its a joke at least 3/4 gen for they look ...there loss it will be reg in germany as were the parents techiicly coo parents unknown ,well thats what the paper says no reg in kurdistan itll make no diff anyone in the know will know where they came from It is joke isn't! Mine will come with UKC registration (one parent has russian papers the other Kazakh) which I hope to be able to keep working with as they have worked well for the intersts of the breeder of my pup. I'm only interesting in a registry to be able keep breeding records not one one that will di
  13. i wasnt back biting at ..t/c mark ive spoken to the man ,hes no fool!but i know a few folk that are equally as wise and natives of these lands ,and have spent many hours talking to them and whatching there films of the tazi/sal hunting its a minefield out there ,one of the best pieces of addvice i was given about syria is ....unless you speek to .......do not touch it .btw it was t/c that told me about the litter you are getting your pup from ,it really is a small world mark ..good luck I didn't mean to imply you were, I was just meaning if it was playing on a TV in front of you, yo
  14. Do you have any plans at all regarding registration of the pups? IE just sticking with the FCI registration papers or going KC or SPDBS?
  15. I'm sure you would find T Clarks footage and his experiences of a wide range of COO Saluki's interesting if you saw it or got the chance hear from him, it's really the closest many of us are likely to get see COO Salukis. I know of some people who are in the process of importing from Iraq and Iran so I hope you for their sake you are wrong about the possiblies of importing from these areas. I would of gone the same route as you were it not for my Kazakh experience and connection's. The Kurdish/Syrian Saluki's certainly appear to be the cream of the crop good luck to you in following
  16. Google 'Pet Passport Scheme'. Mine is currently living a dogs life with a friend in the desert somewhere in the US I wouldn't use the Quarantine route for a pup, perhaps I might for an direct COO adult dog but only if no other option existed.
  17. Lovely wee pup mate, best of luck! Dog or bitch? It's a long wait but well worth it! I've only got 4 months to wait now. The future for working Saluki is starting to look a lot brighter. Keep them coming in folks. Regards Mark
  18. Full Salukis are as versatile as they come IMO if you allow them them to have their own head and to work to their strengths.
  19. There is a hell rabbit population thats for sure! I had an invite last season for a spot of ferreting there last season, there were so many holes it was difficult to work them well especially as we were not allowed dogs on. I'd love to actually live up there luckily we are only 1/2 hours drive away. There is something really special about the mountains, some of the last truly untouched wilderness land in the UK.
  20. Thanks folks, If could I'd spent all day every day up there. This was Glen Clova.
  21. The beddies Ameerah reminding Farouq who the boss is, lol. Abominable snow dogs It was pretty bleak up on top, easy to see how folk can get lost up here. It was so cold up there my water bottle in my backpack froze almost solid!! Check Ameerahs whiskers
  22. It's certainly works and enable to catch rabbits that sat only yards from the field edge, rabbit that many folk would slip on. I've a few video's here where you can it working well enough. You can also stop rabbits running in that are a good distance away by shining the beam between the rabbit and the field edge, as they are often happier to squat down in the darkness rather than move into the lamp beam.
  23. This will probably shock a lot of folk on here, but after years of injuries even fatalities I'll not have any dog carrying greyhound or whippet blood (even though I really admire the wee Whippets) they are simply an accident waiting to happen for my kind of varied hunting over varied terrain. I've a house full of retired lurchers of various breeding some of which are far too young be out of the hunting game and carrying lifelong injuries. That to me is no fun at all, maybe I'm just to soft but this is why I'll only have pure Salukis or mixes within these types of dogs ie mixes between Af
