It's interesting that quite a few will not entertain them, in some cases it is perhaps down to bad entering but in many cases the dogs just don't have it in them. I wonder if it down them being almost exclusively bred for hares or perhaps it is the show breeding behind many UK Salukis? It is a strange one because many country of origin Salukis are used on Foxes, jackal and wolves. These last two dogs take upwards of 40 foxes every winter

Thanks, I couldn't of asked for a better upbringing for Nura. Certainly I cannot thank her and Vladimir enough as I am sure you can understand yourself.

Cracking shots of Bailey there Sarah, stunning lad I really like that blaze down his face. Malak is an absolute beauty aswell Callie, keep the updates coming.

Here are some more recent ones of my Nura, she is 8 months old now.

All Credit to the breeder he is doing a great job of rearing them. I wish my Nura was closer so I could go and see her, not long now though. It is amazing how quickly it comes around.

Unless you are working your dogs on a turf farm dogs with all drive no sense will not be only be wasted early on in the night but you be lucky to get through a season without lay offs due to needless injuries, while the dogs with prey drive tempered with running sense will out steadily catching right through.

It's actually not as dangerous as you are thinking if spilt in the open it works by taken the oxygen out of the air, the Nazi used it on the Jews moisture in the earth and air triggers it when used from rabbit control, the Nazi used it in the shower blocks. In the open air as it quickly reacts to moisture in the air but because you are in open air it is more likely to disperse, saying thank I have a had bad headaches at times when using it so even in open spaces care was needed but would'nt really leave any risk to anyone passing by at a late time.

my thoughts exactly dont get a dog if you cant pay to care for it! prik Especially a greyhound

just because a dog wont run at rabbits next to the hedge dont mean they have no prey drive it just means there brainy, why fight a endless battle.we all know that some of them come back in to the field but more of them get through.my dog does it and at times you think stop pissing about and run that beam but it aint that bad because she picks squaters out of the seat just walks to them a dog that runs the beam flat out will be tired quicker than the one that walks so i can live with missing the odd one on the edge just my oppinion exactly, especialy at the end of the season non come ba

Best of luck with it, plenty long days in fields is best you can do to help settle them, I've a lot of admiration for them great wee lurchers if the mix comes out right but it is often a lottery especially when you start onto second crosses which out latest one is (Beddie/WhipXBeddie/Grey).
-
No I only work the Saluki's now the lurchers self destruct within 4 seasons at best, saying that old BeddieX we lost a few years back now at 14yr old was 100% till very near the end she wasn't the reckless type though. Our younger beddieX is wrecked for hunting with now has been since he was around 3 yrs old and even now on just on walks he continues to try to kill himself at any opportunity.

Drive and brains must surely be in near equal amount, I couldn't be doing with one these utterly reckless greyhound saturated dogs (in fact I wouldn't touch anything with whippet or grey) ready to kill or seriously its self, what it to be gained from a dog like that an extra rabbit or whatever in the bag, but the dog is now lying fecked in it kennel for 6 weeks or worse catching nothing.

I couldn't of put it better myself

From the right stock and correct entering yes I would say so, I've heard from folk in the US whos Salukis kill coyotes whilst coursing Jackrabbits, certainly some of the larger male Kazakh dogs should be capable. Many salukis in COO are used on fox, Jackal and wolf (all be it hunted as a pack considering the wolf is larger and more powerful than any one dog.

lmao, he's a fine animal, do you think his Highness would take instalments? I couldn't afford the airfare to Dubai never mind importing a dog from there it amazes me the lenghths yourself and others have gone to, to find the blood you require, with people like the main contributors to this thread involved the future of 'saluki' is in good hands likesay by the time Im ready to buy in again things will have changed............ Exactly why my advice to BBB was to wait a few years, yet so many are arguing the point!

Of course they can, I've worked 3 generations from this line over 15 years but the dogs surely have good general health berfore even considering their working ability, there simply has to be some outcrossing at this point or all could be lost in time.
-
It's not rickets , vet was unsure if it was genetic or diet. As I said legs would return to normal after a rest and would only manifest itself after exercise, if it was rickets they would be permanently bowed. He said if it was diet then it was too much calcium etc, the fact remains though that the pup must have a genetic predisposition for the condition. Of course at this point your vet was unaware of the 2 other cases from the same line, my Farah and Poachers Storm.

The problem with khan is simple over use, the generation is swamped with khan blooded Saluki's, just the same as champion stud superiority in the show dog world it simply reduces the gene blood further. Again I agree there is no doubting the working ability of his offspring, there is a bigger picture here though than simply producing the next generation of coursing dogs.
-
The answer is unfortunately no where near as simple as neutering/spaying or culling as they maybe carriers of the condition but not show it themselves and if paired to another carrier you will get pups with this problem. The problem could really blow up in our faces after a few more generations tight line breeding, I know COO stock can have its own problems but outcrossing can only improve the gentic health of Saluki in the UK. That is the nature of these problems, before you know it it's through the whole line and then there is nothing you can do about it.

Hang fire for a for a couple of years and there will be some fresh blooded dogs on the go and hopfully some good outcross litters on the ground. The Kizzy/Pharoh dogs are excellent coursing/hunting dogs there is no doubt about that but there are some health issues mainly growth problems in pups and some auto immune disorders starting to appear in some due to tight breeding. That would be my advise anyway. give me examples of these ,growth problems ..and auto immune disorders and where you get your information from ,mark ? I have personal experience of both auto-imm

Brookie's litter for one of which Richards is one, Shaddows bitch and his mates dog from the same litter, my Nura, your import lots to looks forward to . If you think about it the bulk of the Saluki's came into the UK near enough 100 years ago and there was only around 40 or so and with only a very small number or imports in the last few years almost everything else has been bred out of those initial 40 or so dogs so when you think of the dogs that have come last year and those that are coming in it's looking pretty good for the future.
