  1. Thanks for all the kind comments about her everyone. She has surpassed any early hopes I had for her, I have the Kazakhs who developed her ancestors to thank for that and of course Vladimir her breeder and Jess and Brett for rearing her on for me and getting her to me as such a well balanced pup. Now I have my pack to thank for carrying her forward. Yes it was very unfortunate that she came into heat just as she was to ship to me, it has been an exhausting couple of weeks, not help by getting Moussa one of Ameerahs sons back! There will be no boyfriends for her for a few
  2. After a 10 month wait and near 30 hrs traveling, 10 hour drives either side of a 8 or nine hour flight. She is a solid wee bitch, at only 22 1/2" tts she weighs 40lbs, which really doesn't come across in the photo's. She has taken a couple of young Rabbits and here she is retrieving a young rabbit Farouq had just and I threw for her. She is well worth the all the effort and expense.
  3. Thats a lovely stamp of a Saluki, with a great jacket on it as others have said. Not long to wait now, it'll soon come round!
  4. pure iranian have got plenty of bone not the hight of the ..english lines I thought that, much like the differences between my Salukis and the Kazakh dogs.
  5. Stunning lad and my favourite colouring of all the saluki colours/markings, how does he compare buildwise etc to the iranian dogs you've seen in Germany?
  6. I admire your commitment to your partner, it seems a rare qualities these days. I'm not from the ignore and hope for the best school of thinking myself (each to ther own though), I believe in being crytal clear with my dogs so every one of them knows exactly where they stand and making things happen. Key to that IMO is meeting the dogs basic needs first and foremost then you are in position pick and choose how your dog behaves around that basis. I would wish you good luck but luck isn'treally any part of it is it, it's about getting motivated and making things happen.
  7. More exercise, much more exercise, only then are you in any position to ask anything of the dog, if it still whines after increased exercise then firm consistent consequence, meaning enough to let the dog know you are not happy with it's behaviour, nothing more nothing less.
  8. She's a beautiful bitch and more so with every update you post!! Regards Mark

  10. Good Stuff Michael, they are crackers the pair of them.
  11. The fact of the matter is that the UK has weaker dogs than the rest of the world because we continue to keep breeding 1st crosses from Greyhounds that break toes hocks etc from running on manicured sand tracks! Then we add more greyhound to to be sure the feet are utterly crap, resulting in dogs that break after 3/4 seasons and even being kept from running in woods, on dry baked, frozen or stoney ground. Then when the dogs break and are no use for work they used as brood bitches or stud dogs to earn there keep producing more weak dogs.
  12. They great dogs with temperaments second to none. My first Lurcher was a first cross, which I got when he was around 3. He was excellent on bitting vermin but unfortunately he had very poor feet and turned like a barge although this was probably in part due is poor feet and tendancy to go flat at everything. This was the end of him as he killed him self doing his job simply because he was too fast and lack agility hit something very unforgiving. I don't know why a group does put some money together and import some well tested stock from the US. It would do no end of good for dee
  13. I can understand that some like Salukis for the novelty factor and than many onlookers might view them as such but make no mistake I love Salukis because of their ability when hunting, they fit my needs perfectly after having become disillusioned with the lurchers I've had and still have, injury being the biggest problem I had with them. I don't doubt for one minute there are other types of lurchers that could offer the same durability some collie bred dogs would no doubt be robust enough Bird's dog on here springs to mind however I just don't gel with the collie mindset. No doubt many Greyhou
  14. Top post Richard I whole heartedly agree. A natural recall, retrieve and heal (i.e the dog understand why behave a certain way and does it naturally to suit the sitiuation)is worth more than dog that simpled conditioned to obey commands IMO.
  15. Interestingly I find my Salukis far more eager to please me, I just don't seem hold the same importance to the beddies as I do to the Saluki at least once outside that is, the beddies are just not interested in pleasing me they have their own agenda where as I am quite literally my Salukis world. im reading what your saying mark ,not arguing just disscusing ,trying to play devils advocate but its not easy ,i know your very passionate about the saluki as am i ,and trying to be honest ,you ,i and others , tend to look and take more notice ,of certain traits ,some which my be termed as unique

  17. I totally agree though it depends what your carrot is as to whether it will work. 9 times out of 10 Salukis are difficult because their very most basic need are not being met, once that prey drive, natural intelligence and energy kicks in you simple have to get them out running/hunting/learning, only then can you expect them to toe your line. They are simply not anywhere near as forgiving as other modern/western breeds if you don't meet these basic needs they will give you the finger, use harsh forceful methods and they will tools down and totall shut you out and you will loose any bo
  18. Not meaning to sound big headed in saying that but is just how I find them. Getting back to books The Saluqi; Coursing Hound Of The East, Edited by Gail Goodman but with section written by many Salukis Enthusiasts from around the world many gathering their experiences in the Middle East.
  19. I've never found them anything but easy, they are as natural minded as you will find in any dog so pack struture is massively important to them. I've always used very similar methods as Cesar Milan uses with the salukis and found they are so in tune with this way of thinking. I am from a Gundog background but I completly threw away that mindset from getting a feeling for my first Salukis ways.
  20. I have several books on Saluki but nothing under these title's.
  21. I don't see the big deal with running them on ploughs, I run mine on the ploughs right through season. If I didn't run them on plough I'd never get a run here.
  22. All the fox pics are taken in Kazakhstan, I spent some time with the two men in the last photo in sept 07. The Wolf one is in Kyrgyzstan, the Wolf would of been killing their horses and cattle. Harsh places indeed for both man and beast, 40c in the summer down to -40c in winter.
