  1. Hi Blando, Thats as good as it gets to be honest, I'd say it is an old 35mm photo that has be scanned, I got it from a US Falconer, who keeps Tazi's and is going on the trip to Kazakhstan, it is fairly probable that he took the photo himself as he spent in mongolia with the Kazakh eaglehunter. If anyone is interested in eagle falconry, aboriginal dogs and are seriously interested in actually going on this trip PM me and I'll give more details. Regards Mark
  2. That would be really great, I really appreciate it. Regards Mark
  3. Yes also wolves and leopard in the extreme certain dogs are known to be able to take wolves single handed, where as the Tazi's need the assistant of large shepard dog for the kill!!! They are one serious hunting dog capable of coursing in thin air altitude and over unbelieveably rough ground. They also have used them in dog fights and I've stories of them accounting well for themselves against pit bulls. This is a Tazi (Saluki) from Kazakhstan, Taigans are from over the south border in Kyrgystan.
  4. Thanks for the replies, I've never been abroad since I was a kid, so it's a bit daunting at times especially as it looks like I'll be leaving the uk on my own to meet up with others from the US and Russia in Kazakhstan. I hope to be able to go to the Tien Shan as this is where the Taigans are. Did you see any when you were there? How did you get on with the Kazakhs? I've been told they are very friendly people. Thanks for advice re Jags. The host of the trip as contacts in Almaty, hopefully he will find cheap accomadation. Could always take a tent!!
  5. Hi everyone, A lot of you seem to be very well travelled judging by previous posts. I'm going to Almaty in Kazakhstan next september, to an aboriginal dog conference and to see Tazi's hunting with eagle etc. Do anyone have advice on Accomadation or any other general experiences that I should consider?A lot of Hotels seem expensive yet I am told there is accomadation from about £15 per night perhaps B&B's?. Regards Mark
  6. I've seen most things, I spent all my time in the "Bark woods" watching badgers and looking for birds nests and bugs, I've travelled and stayed all over the uk with my parents as a kid in the motorhome and when I was keepering in the wildlife rich Scottish borders, but I'd love to see a Hobby, wild polecats and scottish wildcats
  7. Our first digi camera was a Jenoptik C2.1 and I was a well pleased with the photo it took. http://www99.shopping.com/xPF-Jenoptik_JD_...earch.aol.co.uk I think it was around the 70 mark but that was a good few years back now, anyway should be alot cheaper now if it is still available anyway some thing like that would do you fine.
  8. Hi, I need some antibiotics, does anyone on here do them? Regards Mark
  9. I also have Saluki's, how are your's bred? I have PM'd regarding a planned trip next year you may be interested in. You may well already be aware of it. Let me know asap if you are interested. I look forward to your posts and any photos. Regards Mark
  10. Its a pity you werent a bit closer Al, my OH is moving her gelding (pic below) nearer home and is looking for a companion for him. Your wee mare would have been ideal! Good luck in finding a home.
  11. Yep pretty much the same as the above have said, however if the rabbit is looking likely to run I often keep the beam between the rabbit and the cover keeping the rabbit just outside the beam but not so much that you can't see it. I often find that will hold a rabbit back from running as they feel safer in the dark outside of the beam and dislike moving into the beam to make the cover.
  12. Well I'm bia's but awesome stamina, very tight, intelligent running, can take knocks that would wreck other running dogs.
  13. Was out last night with the Saluki bitch, who had the pups 11 weeks ago, only third outing since. Her fittness is coming, I'm not so sure about mine tho I was well knackered the fields were soaked and it was hard walking and driving, I very nearly slid the motor into a burn as someone else wrecked the bridge and was already commited after I saw that is was gone!!!!! Anyway got 14, I was'nt expecting that many as there was no wind at all.
  14. Thanks for the replies. The dog is 27/28" and the bitch 23" both deceptively strong. They are capable of taking larger beasties.  As for the collars well I prefer half check collar as they are unable to slip them. Plus poncy looking Salukis with fancy poncy collars could'nt possibly be being use for hunting   P.S Miles did you get the PM/Email I sent?
  15. A friend who got one of the Saluki pups came round and took some pics. The pups didnt stand still long enough for good pics but got some good ones of the parents My pup Farouq, caught motionless for a split second. Moussa, the pup our friend took
  16. Great Thread everyone!! I grew up surrounded by Bedlingtons as I lived not far from the town of Bedlington so I have always been interested in them. We took this pic at a lurcher/terrier in NE Scotland This is my OH's beddie/whipXbeddie/grey's mother (beddieXwhippet) with actually worked below ground as well as the usual work of a lurcher. And here is her mother (our beddieX's Grandmother)
  17. Excellent!!! I was worried about the Salukis when the ban came in glad you have a way of keeping going with thousands of years of coursing history! Maybe one day I'll get down with my Salukis . Regards Mark
  18. Eight all together now. Two Saluki Crosses, both retired due to injury, three pure Salukis, one Beardie lurcher and two beddy/whippet/grey, one of which is almost 15 but still game 10 week old Farouq
  19. Ocassionally it might happen but as you can see from the ground they run on they have to use there heads when chasing more often than not they jump over each other etc, they are brought up hunting together so I suppose they well aware of each other however you do just see the parti coloured Saluki hit one of the tree guard stakes in the video but thats the nature of the game and salukis are pretty tough so was fine. This video was my first attempt and the first day out of the season so the next one should hopefully be a bit better.
  20. Thought Id post it up here too Out ferreting today for an hour or so. Made up this short video clip of some runs. The old Beddy bitch (14 1/2 now) still going strong and doing her own bit of digging Had to finish early as the locator packed in!
