Hi a lot of dogs that are stuck in kennels a lot do get the odd fur loss particularly on the back of the legs and tail. I always use dipro base it's about £2 from any chemist for a tube of it apply it every day to the area it hydrates the skin and encourages the hair to grow back give it a try also what is a must is sudocreme I use a lot of it on my dogs if they have rashes skin condition etc

Running a bitch when she's in season...
MissRhianL replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Each owner is different some bitches can become temperamental throughout their season and their body and attitude changes it's like comparing it to a woman's body in a similar effect they hold more fluid, could possibly have pains or cramp and feel bloated but we won't really know as each bitch is different. I do know of people who do run their bit he's right through and some don't so I think it's just a personal choice really -
Maximus ferret what I meant by not mixed bred was by not the common crosses that you see working today like greyhound bedlington patterdale what I was looking for was breeds that people stereotype as pets like yorky, great Dane, Dalmatian

Funny for u to say that - northern lad about barking at nothing - a few people have taken guaranteed out digging dug down to them to find that they are baying at bedding !!!

Yeah it does

Yeah agree with you what some one will think is a brill worker another might find it a bag of shit that's how things go. Yeah apparently so I've been told that a daschund wouldn't enter like a normal terrier it would turn on its back and go that way whether it's true or not I couldn't tell u sometimes u just take people's word for things if u haven't seen it yourself. I think if u did have a certain breed from young o was brought up around other hunting dogs I think you could increase the chances of it being interested in Working and possibly turn out ok but I don't think they would c

Where have all the Working daschunds disappeared to? A guy I know mentioned that years back the daschund was the main digging dog for certain quarry and now it seems this sort has been bred out of working and seen as a pet. Would be interesting to hear if anyone worked this breed or had pictures of them working
-
Like years ago the dashund was the dog for digging and now I don't hear of anyone using it as a working dog at all. A guy around by me had a pharaoh hound an said he was a great hunting dog but looking at the price of that breed these days I wouldn't take the gamble.

Thinking the other day about working dogs and thought it is possible to make a decent working dog out of breeds that are not mixed bred amongst today's lurchers?
-
you hear of alot of people say to this day that a dog they previously owned back in the days was a much better worker and all rounder than the one they have now, i think years back the make up of the dogs breeding probably wasnt that important longs if they had a lurcher it didnt matter, but i think over time this has changed as certain people will only run certain crosses or doesnt want a certain breed in the bloodline

After a good days ratting for my 2 patterdales

Would like to see some pictures of some peoples First Ever Lurcher they ever had, what cross was it if known, what quarry it worked and how would you compare it to the dog you have this season?

Heres Tank at 9 months old hes just passed 26.5tts, in a way im quite happy that hes turned out alot slimmer than the rest of the litter

Passed 2 weeks iv just been browsing on facebook on some of the lurcher and terrier groups and come across some bull x for sale. There was one on there quite local to me which i recognised as well as my other half and a few of my mates as they had been out with the dog but what i think is quite unfair on the dog is the owner putting the dog up for sale and saying its a way lot younger than it actually is. Ok some people who were passed on the dog were not told the truth of the dogs age they can only really go by, by what they have been told but i think its wrong in my opinion that when the pre

Adult dogs and steps/stairs
MissRhianL replied to Gitano's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Hello, i dont think it will cause that much of a problem for the dogs, but different breeds are more sceptical to different injuries than others if you get what i mean, as i know alot of alasation breeds it comes a time in their life when they are abit older where it is common for their back end starts going, dont get me wrong not all alasations will have it but it is common in that sort of dog, im not to sure about the breeds you have like your husky but i think you should read up about any common problems that they can come by throughout their life so you can actually see if it will affect t -
A friend of mine had something similar happen to his dog, i cant remember exactly what happened on how he did the injury but a friend was out with another friend of mine lamping and had a phone call to say that the dog was in a lot of pain, couldnt stand, having trouble walking and every time you touched him he would scream, he wouldnt stand up in his kennel to dirty. I said to him the dog has probably done something and slipped a disc in his spine, so he went to the vets had it all Xrayed and it did come back that it was a slipped disc but couldnt be certain whether the dog would be able to r

Should she have a booster?
MissRhianL replied to man o kent's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I think its touch and go with boosters, as alot of people got different views on having boosters each year for the dogs. Personally i dont bother with boosters i have a 7yr, 4.5yr, 9 month and 8.5 month old dog and all they have ever had is their first jab and thats about it really, theres alot of people around who tells u that u should jab them with a booster and you will hear another lot tell you they dont bother. One thing i will tell you and to remind others that by having a jab doesnt necesarily mean the dog wont catch a virus or pick up a disease, no jab is 100% unfortunately its handy -
I come across an article in the paper a few days back about the Badger Cull and the licenses that have been given out to farmers for it all. There was a celebrity chef that made her comment on the fact and she proposed that due to the amount of badgers that will be getting culled they should be getting used as meat for food instead of just being slung and left. As back in the day they were a delicacy and suppose to be similar flavour to young wild boar or boiled ham and is a very lean meat. If the opportunity came up to taste it i think id try it like they say if you havent tried it you cant k

Best thing i ever bought when i had my saluki greyhound pup i bought a fox tail from John Hallet the taxidermist by me and attached it to a bungee cord and nailed the other end of the bungee cord to the roof in the middle of his kennel, best thing i ever bought and he loved it he played with it for a good few months, it got him grabbing it and hed pull it and hel let it go and it would bounce about the place and he thought it was great

If your dog is suffering with a form of a dry skin condition - try E45, Diprobase and possibly add some cod liver oil tablets into his daily diet or pick up the odd tin or sardines 1-2 a week it will also be great for the shine to his fur too

Just a tip forgot to mention which alot of people go wrong - when your massage the dogs leg and do range of motion exercises DONT just massage the one side, both sides should always be treated the same
-
Its funny how the littlest things can cause an injury to a dog, if he can walk without yelping you should be ok, people dont realise when the dogs slip on grass or take a tumble it can hurt them whether they show the signs of injury or not, every time it happens to mine i just give the back and back legs a massage and do some light range of motion work with him, if your not sure what side is causing some jip have the dog to stand still (if possible) and stand behind him (if his back side went down or vice versa in front if his front went down) kneal down to his level and compare both side in m

I had a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 bull that would cramp up, it always used to happen in the night when he was sleeping and he'd be lying there screaming but the only way to stop it was to get up and make him stand up, hes the only dog iv had that only ever suffered with cramp
