friend has a laguna /nimrodel whippet 19and a half inches i have a small lurcher 20 inches whippet on both sides when she is in her stride there is no contest and its only a half inch the whippet is pedigree but its horses for courses as the lurcher is a more versatile dog and will do a little bit more its not just about running its the whole package however of the mark the whippet is like a rocket and he is a great rabbiting and mooching dog and a great assett even if a bit headstrong.

my lurcher was working the woods at the end of last season and was hunting up and followed quarry and jumped a wall into the road and a driver swerved the car and got out and luckily for me grabbed my lurcher i shit myself could of easily lost her its so easy you dont know the minute,so sorry for your loss of a young promising companion.r.i.p storm

we carry a bottle of diluted dettol just to clean the wound when we get back to the motor just to stop it swelling if you have a fair bit of travelling to do.

its all about the dogs getting a good home and the traveller has gone out of his way to help when he didnt have to i say there are some good people around and you touched lucky well done mate also i hope you are going to have a talk to mr camping.

i just give them a quick shower to get the shite off them you dont know what they pick up,they are kept in the house all the time after they have been out ratting i dont let the kids mess with them til the next day i have done alright upto now with this routine so dont see me changing it. when they have had a shower and dried them off i check for any little punctures however small and put savlon on them with cotton wool buds then a drink and let them have a bit of a rest for an hour then give them a good meal.

my border has been out with the other borders and lurcher and whippet since she was 13 wks old she comes of good working stock and is coming along ok everyone has an opinion but as i aint a kid no more and have just on 30 yrs experience ratting i think i know what im on about it aint shite just an opinion at least i was answering his question and then everyone else is jumping on the band wagon maybe thats why some posts take longer to get answers because of smart arses by the way i love my border and would not swop her for anything also i want my dog to work long term and not jib when she gets

had one of these dogs a few years back the best ratting dog i have had up to now also would work the cover and retieve to hand still miss her had her pts cancer this dog would make someone a great companion.

good luck on the ratting mate i have a border myself and we work rats with a few more borders they can take a while to bring on so dont start the pup off to young 10-12 mths and be patient hope i aint telling you how to suck eggs.

also take into account they can be stubborn and headstrong while hunting up so can take a while getting a young dog back,patience is the key then more patience you wont go far wrong with a whippet good luck mate.

anything laguna/nimrodel will give you speed and stamina you would be looking at 19-20 inches for a dog.

as socks says the worst thing in pups is dehydration they go down nick so quickly try the pup on boiled rice and chicken small portions 5 times a day if need be start feeding by hand but make sure plenty of liquids if it wont drink water tempt with milk to get it going again at the end of the day its a very young pup and a bit of tlc is better than losing the young dog.
