  8. Well work has got in the way from my last post but I was wondering if asnyone has any comments regarding this company: https://www.stone-spear.com/catapults/bloodshot-polymer-hunter I was thinking about a cheapo one to ease myself in and not breaking the bank if I don't take to it, I am after all looking to hunt with my gadder. Thanks
  9. Not denying neophobia exists but it fascinates me as to how they get it, why they get it and how is it passed on?
  10. Can you not mask the pheromone in some way? When I collect honey bee swarms I spray air freshener onto the branch, whatever, to stop bee's being attracted to that point and not my box. Just a thought.
  11. Thanks I really appreciate your advice. I'm still looking for a simple design, some designs are amazing and way above my skills set. I might end up buying one yet LOL
  12. Nooo, I'll try making the Gadder and buy the bands and pouches at least in the short term. I couldn't hit a barn door with an 'andful o' peas the last time so I reckon lots of practice will be the order of the day.......
  13. That's really kind thanks, but right now I don't have even have a catty (Gadder they were called when I was a lad). I think I've found a design I like and so will give it a go at making one, then look at the "add on bits".
  14. .............B and Q .................. buy some ply wood , sand paper , fret saw and rasp ( very course sand paper ??? ) . or find a tree make a fork some how . get some rubber off the net ebay ect . get a piece leather . you will need new bands sooner rather than later learn to make your own . As it happens I have lots of off cuts of ply in the man cave. Is there a pattern or is it just cut from the eye so to speak?
  15. Thanks for the heads up Greyman, I'm getting back into catty's after a short (40 year) interlude I'd looked at his products and was thinking about getting one of his catty's until I read your post. Any recommendations as to who is a good supplier? Cheers OON

  19. I read somewhere the tree must be 10" in diameter for collecting Birch Sap is that correct?
  20. I'm only about two hours away so can get back if needed. The farmer would check it daily but I take your point. Perhaps setting it for the second half of the week when I'm about might be better. Anyone recommend a good sized strong trap? If I buy it might as well last me.
