Normal story mate, everyone is f***ing Richard Branson except they still phone you and ask if there is any work. If everyone could get something going then they would but they can’t, so thats why they work for you

Lock down extended for another 3 weeks here in Ireland
-
Nobody is immune to getting a f***ing though mate, but I understand what you are saying....don’t blame them, blame yourself, totally get that. However, I personally think it takes some amount of energy to go through life being hard nosed about everything and not everyone is cut out for it.....I know I ain’t, it gets me down. ?

I think the veal market took a battering over the use of “calf crates” and milk feeding.....rose veal is a 100% better way (imho), much more ethical. The next heat will come down on Fois Gras I reckon
-
I did what they call rose veal mate, so out on grass until 10 months old

A good moral mind set that is mate, however there is a flip side to that. I remember writing 50 grands worth of wage cheques the week before Christmas once and me and the Mrs had f**k all left ! .........but I knew full well these lads would not have give you the drippings of their nose if you had been a spot later on. I fact a couple proved it when a bump in the road came, it’s one way traffic all the time, never kid yourself it isn’t mate.

Absolutely understand that mate, it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement and when lads recount these experiences they never have the good lads in mind.....I have had plenty of good lads work for me, they are the “go to” phone numbers when you need people. But there’s a few who don’t understand the symbiotic nature of the agreement......and they are the ones I’m sure most lads have in mind in these type of discussions ?

I don’t know about that but at €50 a pop for a freezer full of veal it’s the way forward mate
-
I did my last lot of veal out of young dairy bulls, it’s cheap eating and tastes amazing.

I definitely think there’s a hint of “nutter” in most driven people, it’s not a bad thing because the world needs them but I think it definitely exists. My old guvnor when I was a kid had a supermarket and wholesaler and when his Mrs went into labour with his youngest he threw her £20 and said “get a cab, I can’t hang about I have eggs to deliver” !! He just used to put a goal in his head and not stop until it was done, one time 3 of us cleared a building of 19 floors in a week !.....went to work on Monday and I came home the following Saturday afternoon having worked 24 hours a day

Best way mate, much better for your mental wellbeing

I used to get that shit, to be fair I just used to f**k em off. ”Be a f***ing man, look after your family and stop pissing it up the wall or smoking it now f**k off” Its probably one of the main reasons I was never going to be the type of person to make the “next step” in business because I just couldn’t hack all the c**ts in the world and rated absolutely nobody......and unfortunately unless you can put your faith and trust in people and leave them alone to get on with it you are always going to be the small operator. I was happier just f***ing about earning my own living, bri

That’s it in a nutshell mate, and it’s hard when you are the type that want to think the best of people. Most lads you could look after like a son but if you went skint tomorrow and owed them a tenner you’d be all the c**ts under the sun and that the truth. The old fashioned ways of going to work and how you conduct yourself are nearly gone out the window now, I take a view of there are some basic man rules and you have to be a straight runner with people, make sure there’s no grey areas and everyone knows the rules but if people want to be clever with you then we can all play that g

The thing I think folks are finding hard to comprehend with this virus is that it’s not a case of if you get it they just pop you off to hospital, treat you and if you are under 70 you will be fine.......it ain’t like that. The hospitals CANT treat you because there is no treatment !!......they can keep you alive as long as they can manage and hope your body does the rest or you die....simple as that. If you cop this it really is a coin toss if you live or die no matter what age you are, I repeat they CANT treat you. Why even take the risk ?

Sheep !......if ever an animal was an expert in finding new and interesting ways to die it’s fecking sheep ! Lol Check our those low lines for the cattle mate, not cheap but they look a great cow (f**k me, never thought I’d be saying a sentence like that ! Lol ) f**k the horsey folks off, they are all nutters.....I should know my old woman is mad about horses ! Best days work I ever done selling all my horses ! Lol

I’m very lucky mate, counting my blessing every day at the minute
-
I’m just thinking about cattle at the minute and rather than just bring in calves for veal I have been considering something a bit more long term. A good mate of mine has the second or third biggest herd of Australian Low Lines in the UK and has kindly offered me a bull, they are by all accounts the ideal cattle for small farms being able to stock at about 2.5 head per acre and doing very well just on grass with a better meat to bone ratio than most cattle. However, getting it from the UK in the current circumstances may be a bridge too far so I have also been looking at dexter.

I have chicken coop envy ! Lol
-
If you ain’t very, very careful......you will turn into me you grumpy c**t ! Lol
-
I was saying to the Mrs the other night, finding a chicken egg is the strangest thing.....you always feel like you have won the lotto, it just never gets old ! I get 6 or 7 every morning and I always come in and announce it like I have struck gold !! Lol
-
Lovely mate, kids look happy as Larry too. Pretty impressed with the flash chicken house, that’s nice mate. Lovely spot you are in there ?

If you are into podcasts I have found some tidy stuff about small holdings etc One is called “Foodture” about small scale farming in Ireland and the other is “The farming podcast” which is from a lad in the US who has a bit of an annoying voice but it’s interesting subject matter so you can sort of get round it.

Years ago me and my pals found a big old dildo in the bushes down a lane once, this woman was walking her dog coming towards us so we kicked it out in the lane and old Fido duly obliged and picked it up and faithfully took it to his shocked owner ! Lol
