Delores Cahill has basically been chucked out of the IFP for coming out with all sorts of spurious, lunatic rantings because she was making them look bad. The IFP talks a lot of sense on a lot of issues, many of which I fully agree with but this bird had to resign. Anyway, if you don’t want it, don’t have it and then you can find out yourself if you were right or wrong......simples

The best way is to ask them mate, explain hopes and fears surrounding the idea and let them make the decision. They may not feel up to it especially if they are not close to anyone there, it’s a lonely place loosing your dad when you are young. If they did come, I personally would have a non drinking nominated driver ready to take them home at a moments notice if it all becomes a bit overwhelming. jmho

What’s missing from this debate is the phrase : ”I have a suspicion that........” Everything is presented like a fact and anyone who don’t agree with that fact is a bit thick........like Gnasher said, it’s bricklayers and roofers who are suddenly top scientists and have access to the very highest levels of government intelligence. Fact is lads, nobody knows......nobody ! Least of all a south London oik or a Bricky feom Brum !........we all just do the best we can.

I wouldn’t be privy to that level of information or security clearance so I’ll have to take your word for it. I mean, it’s completely possible but I don’t know for sure. What I don’t grasp in these various points of view (not specifically you) is why are they going to all the time and trouble to do cloak and dagger things when they have been doing much worse right out in the open in front of everyone’s face for years ?

It’s all about the profit mate. The “antique” job is something I have been studying a bit, where I struggled was that things I used to deal in had a set value in the trade but I have come to the conclusion it don’t work like that with antiques. From what I can work out one dealer can make twice what another dealer can make on the same item for something as simple as he took a better photo and presented it better ?.......is that a fair assessment do you think mate ?

Been lucky enough to come across all sorts of interesting stuff over the years, Scarpa Bastiano Sofas, Mies Van Der Rhoh, Eames, Miller, Naguchi, Panton. Found a lovely old drum table once that some prick had painted with varnish !......a week of careful stripping and waxing and a trip to Bonhams brought it back to glory. Old 18th century bookcases, 17th century refectory tables. I used to just trade them off to a pal who was in that job, I was more concerned with bulk and stacking up the numbers. Maybe that’s true mate, it isn’t clear yet but there is plenty that is clear. Its like the film Gladiator where he rushes up and says “Did I miss the battle” and the old man says “You missed the war” !
