The old places were built for 3 people huddled round an open fire with a cow in the room next door mate, they were never meant for proper heating sucking moisture out the ground all the time. You won’t see many lime render or thatch places over here, anything organic and grass will grow on it ! Lol

There’s a few things with older houses in Ireland. First of all is the climate, it’s mild and damp all the time in Ireland…..that’s why it’s so fecking green. Almost every house round where I live has damp and mould problems, even newer built houses. The old stone houses were built directly on the dirt from what I can make out and like the 100+ year old end of my house they just poured concrete directly on the floor to form a surface. Never mind all the complicated stuff, the rule of thumb when camping out is: Stay dry Stay warm Have the ability to make hot drinks and food. Thats literally all you need to enjoy camping. Check the hydro static head on your shelter and buy the lightest and best you can afford. A decent 4/5 season bag for European climate, don’t skimp on that bit. A lightweight stove that burns multi fuels and a decent couple of aluminium fuel containers (obviously the ability to light the stove, load of spare lighters and even a spark stick as back up) Water supply and -

Here’s the best bit of advice you will get, don’t use a gas stove in cold weather…..when it gets cold enough, they won’t even light. Invest in a multi fuel stove, I have one that can burn gas, petrol, diesel, meths and paraffin……it’s an amazing bit of kit. -

The little lad looks like he is having a ball, fair play, great photo mate ? Back on subject what I will say is this, there is a true saying and it’s this “give people enough rope and they will hang themselves” Once in a while these people present you with a gift….it’s goal so open its criminal to not score. A black university lecturer presented me with just such a gift a couple of weeks back and (imho) the footballers on the world stage have done the same for everyone else. Mate, my boy and my wife watched the game, I went and listened to a book in the other room when I got back from football. Im not imposing my view on anyone else, I’m just saying it out loud. Luckily my boy don’t and shouldn’t have to think about it, he don’t live in a community where he has to even think about it and won’t for the foreseeable future…..it just won’t figure and he thinks I’m as batshit as most of you lads do.
