1/2 or 1/4 x beddy/collie?
driller killer replied to driller killer's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I do fancy something along those lines, am keeping an eye out. The brain of the collie and the 'up for it' of the beddy. Like the rough coat, summat like yours, cant beat a merle, they look amazing. I know i shouldnt hold too much on looks but i do like them, im sure one will turn up. Sent ya a pm darencross Cheers Neil -
1/2 or 1/4 x beddy/collie?
driller killer replied to driller killer's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It sure does give him caracter! Merles have got to be my favorite markings, and i like the blue eyes, It might just be the look of the eyes putting my mate off, it can give them a bit of a sinister edge, which i like. I didnt know they were called wall eyes! but i do like collies, by last dog was mostly collie, and she was too clever for her on good sometimes. A bit of beddy or a bit of collie or a bit of both seems the way, but if i could find a rough coated merle bitch i think i will be sold. So your dogs just over half sighthound, i would have thought he would have looked less racey, i -
Sound bloke,
We exchanged items through post. He took great care and consideration and can be trusted.

Dont know where i got my maths from?? With ferreting who would you say had the advantage? your dog or the little dog? and i which ways do they work differently, sorry for all the questions. Lovely looking boy there by the way, im jelous. The blue eye, got a mate who knows dogs well and he dont trust dogs with, cant remember if its just 1 blue eye or 2, thinks they can be a bit scatty/mad, any opinion?? I dont really have any experiance so no opinion. Cheers Neil -
Hello, After my old dog dying a few months back aged 14 it has now come the time to get a new bitch. If any one has a litter on the way or available now, only gonna be used for rabbits, mostly with the ferrets. so would prefer nothing too big, with a lot of whippet in, and either collie or beddlington, not adverse to maybe a little of a few other things in there but no bull. Needs to be a bitch and broken or rough coat, If its got collie in i love merles. In resonable(ish) drive of Exmouth Devon (2/3hrs). Will have a very happy life, as a worker and family pet. Needs to be a pup as i ha

1/2 or 1/4 x beddy/collie?
driller killer replied to driller killer's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Hi mate, No thats great help, more trying to get an idea than anything else, have been asking about though. So if my maths is right (probably not) you dog would be 1/3 sight hound? or have i got that wrong? A bit of grey is fine, like i said not too strict what im after. If its not a pain do you have any action/side on shots of the dogs? Look just what im after though, both of them. Just tried to work out what % the other dog is, tried my home brew barley wine tonight so bit beyond me at the moment. How well do they both do after rabbits? Dont think i mentioned that is all i will be af -
Hello, I am new to lurchers but not to dogs, my old bitch of 14 (mostly collie) passed away a few months back, R.I.P Newt. It has come the time to get a new hound, and as i enjoy ferreting me and the family would love a small lurcher. Would mainly be used for ferreting and mooching with maybe the occasional bit of lamping. Would be a worker as well as a well loved family pet, have a 3yr old son. I was looking for a either 1/4 beddy or collie x whippet, as want a smaller dog. but a few people have suggested a first cross. Needs to be rough/broken coat but would not be adverse to a couple

Well done mate! Did better than me today, went pike fishing today for the first time propely, didnt catch a bloody thing, which would be fine but was there at 6 and one mate caught a 13lber and my other mate caught a couple smaller, but one of them writes about fishing for a living and the other works for a fishing tackle wholesalers, so all the best kit and knowledge compared to my £10 rod, just makes me wanna go out more though and catch up! Glad ya had a good day, its more than worth it even when ya catch nowt! Let ya know when its my turn!

driller killer replied to nailer's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Hello, I am also looking for a pup of the same cross, beddy whippet, rough coated bitch, not so fussed about colour but in resonable driving distance of devon. A young pup though, want it to get used to my son. Congrats on ya new pup nailer if ya have any ideas give us a shout or if any one else does. Cheers Neil -
Hello, I have a mk3m deben ferret finder, only used about 3/4 times with 1 collar. I would like to swap for a resonable .22 air rifle. I live near Exmouth in Devon so someone in resonable distance or/and able to meet half way. Can add a half descent ferret hutch also but it wont fit in my car as it has a stupidly small boot but will fit in most estates i imagine so if ya want that also you will have to come to me. Cheers Neil PM if interested Or actually just thought, im planning to get a new lurcher pup soon after my old dog of 14ys died a few month ago. so if anyone has a pup they wo

Havent done it but been told about it, If the person has a car, and you are able to hire/borrow a very similar one, model style colour etc. get/borrow/hire the car get some false plates made out the same as the said persons and find every speed camera you can find and go through them as fast as you can. Ideally if you know when the said person is at home on there own so they dont have any witnesses to say they were there. Whats this person done then?? Cheers

Hello! Im looking to get my first lurcher, but not by far my first dog. Does anyone have any experiance with lurchers with a bit of pharaoh hound in it? As well as a bit of collie/whippet/grey. (dont know %) And would it be suitable to live with my 3yr old son. In side that is not in a kennel. Tried that my son only moaned. Cheers in advance. Neil

Hello! Does anyone have any advice/links etc of a cheap and easy way to tan (is that word?) rabbit hide? Fur on and soft and supple suitable for clothing rugs etc.. Would love a rabbit skin rug at the end of this season!! Also to store them before processing, so i can do a few at a time, im guessing freeze them but do i scrape, salt or do anything before i chuck them in the deep freeze? Where would be the best place to get suitable products?? Thanks in advance for any help on this, If it turns out well i will post some pics of said rug! Cheers Neil

Good point, theres a good chance theres nothing down the holes and he knows it. I have had plenty of warrens with nothing in them. As everyone else says failing that offer him free to good PET home, you should have no prob getting rid.
-
I have one permission and pretty much each hedge is one very long narrow warren, it is riddled with them, have to be on your toes, by best worker is brilliant but she will just work all the way up the hedge and just keep going! she ends up popping out at the top of the field when your at the bottom, have to have eyes in the back of you head, and lotsa nets!
-
Would just chuck them down, if they do lay up just do what anthonytomo said, or leave there box by 1 unblocked hole, the rest blocked up, with some bedding in and food, you dont have to trek far to get to it, grab a cuppa, pop outside, grab ferret. Im sure it will be fine. Or you could just shove ya arm under and have a feel about, for the bunnies that is. or the ferrets if the lay up. Cheers Neil

I Know a lady who runs a ferret rescue near newton abbot, could try and dig out her no if you want? I think it £10 donation per ferret. Got my 2 jills from her, 1 a good worker and the other a brilliant worker! PM if interested as might not remember to check post. Cheers Neil

Thanks for all the replys, very helpful! How do people find bedlington x for training? I was thinking collie/bedlington, i think from the sound of it i was along the right lines! Maybe with a lota whippet in i think would suit me. But i will keep check on my son with her, but im sure they will have the odd little wrestle. Cheers for all the help, any more input will be greatly appretiated!! Neil
