I am planning to teach my son not to be too rough but i allso wanna know on the odd occasion when it does happen i got a dog i can be resonably relaxed with. But i agree kids should be told not to be too rough with dogs/pups you can never be 100%. Collies are known for having the potential for being a bit snappy, my last do who died couple of months ago, aged 14 i never completely trusted, but she did well with my son coming along in her later life, thats why i want a pup from as early as pos (from 8wksish), but i know collies and i know how good they are at training. Cheers poacher!

How do you find firstx? quick enough? will be smallish field hedge rows etc im working so need to be quick off the mark before bunny gets to cover, was thinking 3/4 whippet/grey to 1/4 collie/bedlington etc or something nearish those %

beddy/collie/grey/whippet something with some/all was the way i was thinking of going from reading on here, I had a bullxridgeback etc once, he was a real softie, kids could do anything to him, but he was no the sharpest tool in the box. Hes dad was allmost pure pit, a beast of a dog, lovely just as long as you were not another male dog, he would go for the kill and be easily capable, saw a couple of close calls, one involved the other dogs owner sticking her finger up his arse to get him off her dog! But i dont fancy bull in it, nothing wrong with them at all just not what im after. Cheers

Was thinking collie maybe for the same reason, and maybe a merle, i know shouldnt go by what they look like but i do love merles. Will be my first lurcher but i am used to training dogs with general obediance, will also be doing lots of research, unfortunatly i dont know anyone with working lurchers i could go out with, maybe i will see if i can hook up with someone once i have done some basic training? Obviously you cant beat a pure whippet for speed and monuverability (dont know how to spell!) Luckily my new job im my own boss so dog cant come out with me, and cant take time off when i wa

Thank again bluemink, Its definatly worth considering, what kinda price we looking at? That kinda size would be ideal for me as only after rabbits, what they like for training/obediance?

Cheers bluemink, Carnt pure whippets be a bit delicate? Hunting and with kids, also the cost of a pure whippet. Do you have one? how do you find it, Thanks for the advice though, its appretiated Neil

Hello! I am looking to get a dog probably in about a months time, im new to lurchers but have had dogs all my life. I have a 3yr old son who, like most boys, can at times be a bit bosterous (is that the right spelling??). I will obviously keep an eye on this an keep my son in check but i need a dog that wont react in a vicious way if i have my back turned for a bit, planning to get a young pup an will allow some rough and tumble so the dogs young enough and is used to having his ears etc pulled on the odd occasion. I will only be using the dog for rabbits out with my ferrets so prob after s

in my none expert opinion, if something runs the dog will chase, when cats hold there ground and bare up to the dog this can throw them, the cats not playing ball and a lot of dogs are wise enough to know cats are fast and sharp, (some dogs will also find it a good opportunity to catch and kill the moggy.) But most quarry your after wont wanna hang about and then your dogs instinct will kick in. Im sure itll get the idea. I could be wrong, just my opinion. Cheers Neil -

I got a hob off this yrs litter, has also got the name stumpy now,(wonder how many stumpy, stubby, stubs, etc are out there?) think mom had a bit of a problem getting him out, im guessing he was the first as she struggled a bit with that 1.dont affect him any more than the others and there about 3mths old now. But dont think a ferret will have to worry any more than normal with balance down a rabbit hole, maybe with climbing stuff but wont be doing too much of that down there, the odd root maybe but im sure he will be fine. Dont get rid, adds caracter. Cheers

ive eaten carp, my ex is half polish. went to that half of the family one xmas eve and had it. lotsa bones, big sharp ones as well. The taste varies loads on what water they been kept in. They used to be kept by monks and they would have a fresh running water holding tanks to keep them in for a while before they ate them, to kinda flush the muddy water taste outa them. Remember seeing on telly a while ago a bloke who was starting a carp farm. He would chuck cow shit in the water that algae (i think) would live off and the carp would eat this. But the uk dont really have the fish stock compar

I went to school in Dawlish, how old are you? Im 32, had Mr Bird as my tutor. When the winter comes round again i will give you a shout about the ferreting, cant do it this time of year as the ferrets will have a feast on the baby rabbits and then a snooze and can be a pain to get them out. Got a really good permission that is completely crawling with them, every hedge is riddled with them, my mate does a bit of shooting there but i dont have a gun, something for the future. and a lurcher at some point. I got some kits (baby ferrets) at the mo if your interested, wont be ready to go for abo

Hi mate, Sorry got a couple more questions if thats ok, sorry only done fishing with feathers a few times and by far not an expert. With the feathers what weight weight do you put on the end of them? So your able to get the feathers out there. Im using a 12/13ft carp rod, so resonable at casting. Also with the feathers, the way there tied to the main line they all naturaly hang in one direction, do you tie them to your main line so there going against when you reel in or with it? Not sure if that makes sense, the way they fall towards does it point towards your rod or the end weight? Hope t

Cheers Mate, Think i will give it a go this week, My MOT has run out on the car and going to be getting a new car once i find one so Dawlish is the nearest place to me at the moment so will try there then, theres the big break water by boat cove or the little one by the main beach by the viaduct, will give them both a go but any view as to wich is the best? suppose it just depends where the shoals turn up. used to go there as a kid also. White feathers and tinsel it is then. Cheers mate. Neil

Sorry lakessham i dont know what you mean? did you write something before and have changed it?? Im guessing you were interested but then realised where i live? -
Ok, cheers for the advice, I am having to move it all and im going to have a lot more room to extend so will do this when moving. At the moment they have a 6ft by 4ft shed with 3 levels of hutches with ramps to each level, then theres a pipe that leads a 4ft by 2ft run with a 2ft by 2ft hutch on top, they have access to all of this with pipes hammocks toys ets and about 3 sleepin areas, so lots of room allready. Im thinking of adding a 8ft by 4ft aviary on to it, will add a few levels pipes etc and maybe bury netting a bit so they got some soil to dig about in, whats peoples opinion on a sma
