  1. Might have a couple of hours out myself Tomo?..probably leave Don at home and take Swift and possibly our Dean's youngster Sox for a little education? Nothing set in stone but we'll see what the weather is like later on? ATB Andy.
  2. You can't catch what ain't there matey..just keep on doing what your doing and enjoy your mutts.ATB Andy.
  3. Haha...aye it'll be noticeable Jim ..ATB Andy
  4. Just a note about those black bunnies,my mate once had a little rough haired bitch and it wouldn't entertain a coloured rabbit lol..lord knows why but it was a corker on the normal ones haha..never seen anything like it before or since? Would run them but not pick the buggers up...feck knows what that was all about? ATB Andy.
  5. Just about sums things up does that Tomo? I have Venus's sister Swift and she is an absolute cracking bitch, steady as a rock, retrieves like a gundog, pace a plenty, day or night she ain't bad at all BUT i have ran her on similar terrain to this although not quite as bad and she done ok but the collie x Don just totally outgunned her,she ran as though she was on high heels lol..if the bunnies were in paddocks then she looked the bees knees..i'm sure we all strive for the ONE dog capable of doing it all and running on all types of land?..i've been in this game a long time and hand on heart i'm yet
  6. Hope to see your jukel back up and in the thick of the action soon...tough little buggers those Whippets,it'll be right as rain before you know it? ATB with the recovery.Cheers Andy.
  7. Excellent result once again fellas..total dedication by both men and dogs .Well done all!! Just to answer Pikeylamper according to the t'internet the moon should be out of sight (totally) by 1.05am matey? ATB Andy.
  8. Fair point matey BUT i do more than just rabbiting lol..my mediocre mutt is more than capable of running on more than just the dales lol...he ain't bad at a days ferreting, can hunt and kill prolifically in dense woodland and can be sent into copses etc: at night and left to do his job..he's more than just a "dales" rabbiting dog and YES thats one of the dreaded hills Moll haha..like you say running a dog up and down them all night ain't as easy as some would make out? ATB Andy.
  9. My mediocre ugly dog does for me Whin matey..he suits the ground i hunt,no he probably wouldn't be worth a toss on the land you run but why should that bother me, you or anyone else come to that matter? Your's probably wouldn't tie my dogs shoe laces on ground that he excels on either but so what? As long as they suit us the owners then surely thats all that matters? All this "it can't catch here, wouldn't kill there" craic it's just utter pish? At the end of the day it's no good going to do a job without the correct tools is it not?...no different with running dogs either..different land/work
  10. It's that old chestnut again Whin "horses for courses" lol...fortunately i have dogs of both types which i try to use on land which plays to each of their strengths and gives me the chance of catching a bit of gear in the meantime lol...you have been in the game long enough to know that part and parcel of keeping a handy dog is by "good handling" of that aforementioned dog and by using it's main attributes to put some gear to rest? ATB Andy.
  11. You'll find mine's ok mate,it's that Tomo's thats questionable haha ..and thats bonnie coming from you is it not?
  12. Top night thanks again to the main man Tomo..as he said i very nearly said bollox to it on the first climb lol..holy shit me and Tomo are nigh on ninety years old between us haha. It was good craic though except for the injury to Venus which curtailed her night..she has been on fire these past few trips too so hopefully nothing to bad with her toe? The dogs were looking pretty good early doors and missed hardly anything at all,for those who think that it's like taking candy of a child catching these bunnies then think again!! Like Tomo and to an extent Skycat said the man behind the lamp, selec
  13. Don't think anyone is saying it AIN'T important.it's just not the be all and end all in a lurcher's makeup..yes it does have to be quick enough to catch it's quarry but that's about as much use as it needs to be imo? All the things that Moo mentioned are imo of more significance than just blinding speed? ATB Andy. These type of threads allways have their diffrences in opinion. but isnt that waht makes a lurcher/lurcherman? diffrence of peoples opinions reflected in their breeding and attitude to other breeds. Exactly matey ..it's been said a thousand times in the past and

  15. Without a doubt Jim's (Robert Michem's) dog Snipe..tried,tested and then some and still catching big numbers at the grand old age of ten..a proper dog imo? ATB Andy.
  16. Aye..couldn't agree more Moo ...it all boils down to the type of ground you hunt on really though? ATB Andy.
  17. Cheers for the run again Tomo ,we took a chance on the weather last night because it was forecast to be not too bad and without doubt the best of the week as far as lamping was concerned and it was dot on really, there was a breeze for the most anyways and the temp was about 11/12 degrees going by the car? We knew there was no moon so we went for it lol..pleased as punch we did too, dogs had a good leg stretch,we had a god craic and dogs both ran very well and didn't do too much wrong? All in all it was a great night once again and it was better than sitting in the house watching tele lol. Than
  18. Good result matey..can't beat a few retrieves on old long ears .ATB Andy.
  19. Excellent stuff ..i did much the same Skycat with the bitch i have off Tomo, she was mentally immature when all her littermates were doing all and more even fully seasoned "pro's" were capable of doing..mine in truth was a backward teenager but i just let her be until i personally thought that she'd "switched on" to the game and i'm glad i did,she too is "almost" faultless in her work where as i believe if i'd went ahead and started her younger i may just of ruined her..my bitch was 13 months old when i started her and her sire was 14 months as he too needed time..what's the hurry at the end
  20. Tidy bag of bunnies is that lads ,well done and fair play to you for giving the pup the easier options and giving your bitch the more testing ones? Keep at em. .ATB Andy.
  21. Nice one Jim & Co..another proper shift by both men and dogs. ATB Andy.
  22. Pleased to hear you've still got Fly matey..we've had some good hauls with her as part of the lamping team a couple of years back..but still jinxed with them bloody toes/feet i see? Hope everything is going good for you fella? ATB Andy.
  23. ..Don will be 3 next March Sniper, this is only his 2nd full season and last season was curtailed early by him cracking a bone in a hind leg,we had a harsh winter due to the frost and snow as you know for nigh on 15 weeks solid into early January so i never risked him lamping after that and just let the kids mooch about and take him ferreting and such and everything has been grand touch wood since then..i was under no illusions when myself and my mate from Ireland bred the litter that these would be nothing other than "pot fillers" at best, his main goal was to be a future stud to keep a line of
