  1. Is that the right craic stubblebasher? I never knew that matey .ATB Andy.
  2. Yep your probably correct on all counts Tomo but i'd also say the same about good hauls of bunnies be it with the dogs or even ferreting or come to that shooting being taken before xmas? The weak, slow, vulnerable call them what your will will more than likely have long since bitten the dust lol..imo i think you could just about say all matter of quarry is harder to catch at the turn of the year? either that or my dogs are just crap haha ATB Andy.
  3. because its mating,, like i said erlier andy im not saying there arnt any pregnant hares in jan,,, but i bet if you cought 10 you would only find maybe 1 ..... in fact heres a good survay for next year,, lets see what the persentage is Good posts ladies and gents and i'd like to participate in that survey but like Robert and Tomo it's not an option unfortunately lol but i could assure you Tomo that in past years there would be more than one in ten infact i'd go as far as saying 4 or 5 atleast and thats with some of the ten being bucks,i started to quit on them the last day of D
  4. This is what i was meaning Bazil about things been in young in January,i've been amongst dogs for a good few years and in truth it's possibly this past 10/15 years or so that i've been coming across gear carrying young or even having had their young in early/mid January,i even seen a Roe with a fawn way back in late March, pretty early to say the least..i really do think the seasons as we once knew them are changing in a big way? ATB Andy.
  5. Yeah,i agree with that Robert especially after this past winter ..the last winter was desperate up here anyways,we had 15 weeks solid of ice/snow,surely any animal including the hare that survived that must of been undernourished and pretty weak to say the least when winter finally relented it's grip? ATB Andy.
  6. Good call matey ..just to add do you lads think that ALL quarry is harder to catch come January not just the hare? And Tomo that really does surprise me about the hares down South not carrying young when much further up North many are at that time,i wouldn't of been surprised if they weren't up Scotland where it's generally much colder at that time of year? ATB Andy.
  7. Any chance of them being Hen Harrier's matey? ATB Andy.
  8. This is a genuine question and not at all a topic to be turned into a slanging match which is usually the norm if i make a post lol..i'm no day coursing man but have took my quota of gear over the years and where i live not far from the Scottish Border i find that quite a high % of the female hares are carrying young in early/mid January and we often hear the phrase about "testing your dog on a January hare on the big land"? Well it's common knowledge that 300 mile south (Fens) from where i am the climate is generally 3 or 4 degrees warmer at the least so would the hares down there not be carr
  9. Great result and it's obvious to see the dog is in experienced hands .ATB with the young un and look forward to hearing of his winter jaunts .ATB Andy.
  10. Try Stockholm Hoof Tar but as and when you get time check a product out via the t'interweb called Tuf-foot from the States..ATB Andy.
  11. Hi Lofti,Don and only one other from the litter came to England the remainder are over in Ireland,i know one was quite aggresive towards other dogs and even humans so he's just homed on a small holding basically as a guard dog over in Ireland lol,my mate from over in Ireland who pupped Don & Co has one that is doing the business very well on the big fellas out on the hills, she's not very big but very game and their litter sister who his brother owns is much lighter in the frame and could just about be passed over as a whippet/grey but she's making quite a name for herself over there mainly
  12. If use did have a match but it does not look like it would it be on the lamp???? and would it be who catches the most in a time period or the best off so many slips???? I assume it would either be to a set time period or more than likely just most in the bag at the end of the shift..if one leads but falls short of stamina then the other has a chance to take the honours if it keeps on going and eventually surpasses the other dogs score? The lads would have to decide on that though but saying that finding halfway is a "headache" so deciding on the rules could be another lol..just look
  13. Back in the day they were renowned for catching big hauls of gear, they were basically just lamp dogs, they were never renowned as fox dogs although several were top drawer at dispatching them..you can bet your bottom dollar if the name Minshaw arises then controversy is never far away lol.ATB Andy
  14. Their nothing other than line bred lurchers mate..with every now and then a bit of new added blood chucked into the mixing pot...they are no different to any other lurchers...they should have four legs,a head and tail and they shit and piss like any other lol...there's good un's and there's bad un's like in any strain .ATB Andy
  15. During teh day on open ground they resemble a statue at night run in pares wiht a bloke with a dazzeler stands at a gate In English if you could chap please?
  16. Excellent pic, nice to see aren't they especially at this time of year in their summer coats? ATB Andy.
  17. I've explained how and why Bulpa came about a hundred times via these forums..the dog i have now Don bred similar (lurcher x collie)was planned over a 3 year period and that was because the right type of Collie had to be found first and because i feel he'll make a good baseline for breeding if and when i need to do so..so does that clear that one up for you as you make it sound as though "i have to explain all and sundry to you" lol? As for Cora having two litters then in all honesty i did not know but i will find out because i'll pop in and see the lad who had her,he dropped in at mine just
  18. and make it in the winter time if you want to be took seriously. rabbit men Toby, this isn't intended to cause argument i'm just a little baffled with all this January "best hare" craic? I live on the Border's of Scotland so obviously some 300 miles North of the Fens where all this "ultimate" of hare coursing USED to take place now i've caught my share of hares and found that in early January the majority of hares are in young up here and with it being even warmer down South surely they must be too carring young and it's inevitable you'll be running pregnant does? What's your views
  19. Hey up Brick..as and when i get my scraggy mongrel in order give me an offer for a friendly night out?
  20. Well whatever anyone has to say about the "kind" of dogs we keep i don't give a hoot to be honest? Call em shite, call em Collies, call em Greyhounds call em what you like but they please me and the boys .ATB Andy. :victory: :victory: :victory:
  21. Very smart and in great nick too!!! Good luck with them and all the best.Andy.
  22. Oh and the story of the Greyhound which was White & Black in the same kennels as Cora was called Watch & Learn (possibly summat you should try)?...if that mated Cora then so be it...it must be a first because it was a BITCH!!! So tell your story teller to get the FACT'S correct before they start passing dud info onto you Tony lad lol ATB Andy.
  23. Enlighten me about Cora's other litter then Tony because i know NOT of it i can assure you that and that is THE truth .As for Shaun, well he's a big lad i don't have to hold his hand lol,of course he can drive so obviously thats someone else talking shite as per the norm whoever it is thats running you tales?...Rambo,Traveller and family were the Greyhoundy types matey, they were out of a 1/2 cross called Grip and Blues dam was injected with Grey too she was called Darkie..so now not even Blue can be called a Minshaw in your opinion eh? ATB Andy.
