A decent night considering: full moon,1st run since injury and the terrain...i was happy enough with the dog and he seems injury free which is the main thing? Better hauls await of that i can GUARANTEE!!! Onwards and upwards and i think it's about time you let the old man take over the training/feeding and let's see what these mutts can do? haha

Basically because alot of the day dogs wouldnt be suited to rabbiting though Lazybstard surely? Not all but a high percentage? ATB Andy.

It won't put em on for you mate haha ,you've got to do it thy sel lol

Haha,i suppose you'll be starting December then Moondog when the frost and snow is here and when owld long lugs is at it's peak will you? How do you guys get your dogs so fit when you won't run anything with them until the dead of winter? Genuine question and i'd be intrigued to get an honest answer or two off the daytime lads? ATB Andy.

Great result Tomo & Co,glad to see the dogs ran well despite one or two setbacks including that darn moon lol.Well done guys .ATB Andy.

Excellent result..well done those dogs ATB Andy.

And would your daytime runner been capable of doing that many on the lamp Toby? I'd say more than likely not wouldn't you? Each to their own and all that

I just know of the dog/owner but i'd hazard a guess and say NOT A CHANCE..ATB Andy.

Genuine question here mate,if you were in the market for a lurcher and had the chance to buy the Gaffer dog which has proven it's capable of doing a feat such as this or ANY "ordinary" lurcher that has caught the odd bunny and such on the odd occasion it's been taken out, ifboth were for sale for the same money which would you go for? ATB Andy. im never in the market for a ready made dog i rear my own and put down surplus...i also woudnt have the need for 12 hares i switch the lamp off if one gets up Cheers fella

Excellent post matey...take em to the edge and then some,...that way and that way only proves if a dog has it or doesn't imo, whatever it's chosen work?.Like i said Wilf there must be plenty of owners who are easy pleased lol

Very true, it was like daylight at midnight and stuff was very thin on the ground........dont know what it was like where this lad was, but it was very hard going local to me. Yep,had a look myself Wilf and my mutt worked it's socks off to catch 25 bunnies last night,it wasn't too bad to be honest where i was, pretty light but we had a bit of drizzle and a good wind blowing but further South conditions weren't as good? There must be some easy pleased lurcher owners on THL because if anyone catches a decent haul of whatever it's always "why, what's the point,no need" and such like..it's th

why not? why not hunt daytime hares and see if his dog can catch that many lol Not looking to stir up a hornets nest Scent but surely everyone who knows anything about running dogs knows that the lads dog has had to work to an extermely high standard to amass those? Why does it always resort to daytime v night time? Christ everyone knows that you ain't gonna catch that many in the day but you could say the same about ANY quarry? If it's not your cup of tea then why not just ignore the topic? I just feel there is so much anymosity on these forums towards certain types of hunting?

Good un,well done that pup..onwards and upwards.ATB Andy.

Nice one and fair play that dog!! And to the whingers get the f**k off your arses and get out and try a bit of hunting..you may just enjoy it!!! If it's not your thing move on and leave it to the proper dogmen!!! Top dog matey.ATB Andy.

snipes 1st trip out gaffas 1st trip this season
FUJI replied to robert michem's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
One things for sure mate, you'll have some fantastic memories of that dog and be able to tell many a tale long after he's gone and until you take your last breath!!! Great dog and fairplay to you for keeping him in tiptop order and proving that longevity of a working dog isn't and shouldn't be two or three seasons and then calling it a day!! ATB Andy. -
It's a bit of everything in truth iceman, walls, sheep fencing, pastures, hills, rocky, slate, bracken and even open moorland strewn with rabbit warrens, some ground is obviously easier than others as for missing much,i'd like to think the dogs would catch far more than they would miss lol.ATB Andy.

Absolutely BLOODY fantastic going is that!!! Fair play to both men and dogs for that effort..keep at it and all the best Andy. -
FFS!!! I'd of went home with no lamps as i'd have been that pissed off i'd of smashed them haha..just to add,i drove nigh on 250 mile return for the run last night with Tomo and i'm sure Tomo does atleast that too so these bunnies ain't on the doorstep or atleast not ours..500 miles done between us last night just for a gallop with the mutts...must be bloody mad .ATB Andy.

Good post Chook1

Yeah,i can see your point doggy bag but atleast your still keeping your foot in so to speak until the pup arrives ..oh and i got a brand new battery today Tomo so hopefully we may not have the mishap of flat batteries next time or atleast not as early in the night haha. ATB Andy.

In my opinion i'd say the bitch has had too much running? I know you say she'd only caught a couple and ran a few but if the bitch isn't and wasn't ready for quick succession running ie:not fit enough then this seems to of been the problem imo? I've seen it happen many times,it's caused by a lack of oxygen getting to the dogs brain,i've seen dogs go blind and become basically "cabbages" by this and even worse die..the symptoms you describe pretty much are exactly what happens when a dog suffers a Hypoxia...hope the bitch makes a full recovery .ATB Andy
-
Thanks for the run out Tomo,it was a decent shift for us guys even considering the batteries let us down ..dogs ran ok for this time of year, improvement is pretty much assured i'd hope? It was good to see plenty of bunnies on the ground,it bodes well for future trips HOPEFULLY? Unfortunately the pics are rubbish,we forgot the camera ..these were off the phone but i guess you can get the gist of things lol..cheers again matey,we appreciate the invites and always enjoy the banter .ATB Andy.

Great stuff and a good SENSIBLE post..a hunters paradise lol..ATB Andy.

I think thats a bit harsh Toby lol..we all ain't got world beaters sitting in the dog run ..if the hares were so easy before/after Dec/Jan then i suppose that those who ain't got the substandard dogs as you like to call them like unlike the majority of us will only be running their dogs in Dec/Jan then will they? Yeah right oh? haha...ATB Andy.
