  1. I would be reluctant to just start into a tug item without first practising Impulse Control , One is stimulating a dog into action , a reactive response to movement / stimulation, the other is a feeling that the best response to a stimulus is to do f**k all and still receive whatever stimulates food / play item/ treat , In the long run stock breaking can become difficult if a pup is overly stimulated thorough a tug item too young before it has learnt to control its own impulses , Proper drive don't kick in until sexuality, it gives focus and control, I don't mess around
  2. Confidence is a clean strike, It's a dog at ease with himself and his surroundings because he knows patterns of movement , dogs don't need to be fast to catch bunnies they just need time to tune into their movement and know when a strike is likely to pay dividends , had plenty of half crosses that would put much faster mutts to shame because of their use of the hedge to catch game It don't happen overnight
  3. At 22 months its shit or bust for me , I wouldn't be holding a driven dog of that age from work
  4. It's a conifidence thing, And when she does connect don't be in a panic to grab the first off her , The first will cause her a lot off excitement which probably means she might do a run round , hang tight
  5. Have ya had it out doing a bit. Your only whooping up on misdirected behaviour, sexual maturity promotes its prey making energy
  6. The young lad won't remember hedgerows either when he remembers back in years from now, memories like that are not forgotten, good times
  7. What do you want it to do ? What's in it for the pup What do you use to entice it ? The bottom line is if you keep facilitating it hunting wise , the pup will turn the corner itself while still feeling less resistance towards females , it's a work in progress , keep up the work and trust in the mutt
  8. In 20/30 years time, if some of us are still around , we will look back and laugh at the image of knowledgeable lurcher owners carrying their little pups around in their arms because we were told without questioning that they have to experience all the world has to throw at them before a certain fixed time , their little biological clocks ticking away , counting down the time to a stage where a pup can't possibly except any new friends Bollox Puppy classes are now seen as a bad thing , and only yesterday they were all the rage but nobody seems to question it , because w
  9. You can take a horse to water But a pencil must be lead
  10. We're slowly I believe treating the main relationship first ,dog /owner , it's the relationship that must be right for the dog to be social in different environments At the minute their are products to sell , puppy classes / puppy socialisation all that crap , The thinking is back to front , why would you entice it , terrify it and expose it to whatever the environment throws at it at its most vulnerable stage I don't get it , Young people aren't allowed to drive until 18 , it's not because they can't , it's because they arnt emotionally ready for the road mentally , 13 , 1
  11. Take an old timer from a shelter, he/she will be no bother in the house and the buzz you'll get seeing their eyes light up every time you step inside a field will be reward in itself ,
  12. The failed support beam to me is a symptom of something further below on that build than the beam itself , they can't just sink on there own , Without a structural report , your guessing
  13. Whatever the hell you do with it mush. Find out why the previous wall failed , ya can't build f**k all on sand
  14. If its non load bearing , shutter it up add your bar and pack into what's on top ,
  15. Are you going to remedy the sinking ??
  16. Does it need underpinning ??
  17. I'm sure a lot of that is hard to digest but to cut it short Behaviour is hard wired in the dog f we can control what a dog calls prey we control the dog , prey control predator not the other way round, if a rabbit goes one way and I go another which path is more inviting for a predators mindset. Prey instinct is hard wired, fulfilling his prey making instinct also promotes social behaviour , a wolf pack can only exist because of the hunt, it's the huge emotional high of the hunt that's keeps a pack together during times of static , same in dogs They can all find a temper
  18. Thank you for that advice. I'll take that all in to account andStart working with these ideas. Would it be possible to pick your brains a bit more please over a private message? Sure
  19. If your not going to work him bud don't worry about training to the gun , could be a long process and maybe not what'll suit in the long run , Use a tug item to engage him, curtail his off lead activities to a long nylon line (10/15 metres,) hand feed while out, throw away the bowl Teach him to bark on command , and manage so he can't f**k up and you will have mechanically manipulated his prey making, group forming mind on to you through a feeling of flow.
  20. At the very root of a good relationship is a feeling of flow , Human/human human /dog , we feel more relaxed about certain people because we feel we don't need to restrict ourself , emotional flow is basis of a bond , old army buddies , sparing partners , friends from years ago , we are able to express ourselves fully because we have reached an emotional level and understanding , The mutt is the same, if we charge out of the blocks at the start to teach manners to a pup we are corrupting a flow state , Manage him so you don't have to discipline him and when he starts feeling flow thr
  21. Do people get a trial period with dogs like this or is it a case of "you picked the dog now f****n get on with it " approach They are just a few issues bud , usually if a dog is expressing that much aggression , I would expect aggression to be its first point of call, Resource Guarding my arse , I'm reading fear , my advise to you , is get that dog working , away from other dogs and people for the time been , let all that tension be channelled into flow Is he running and barking at people to chase them away , like a dog with cattle or is he running violently at them to inflict da
  22. Don't go near one , your not making a strong agreement for getting a dog with what can be a bit brittle temperament wise , I often thought about getting another saluki type mutt but being honest with himself I'm just not going to make drastic changes to my hunting patterns at this stage in my life
