  1. A real shame mate, but people here are speaking sense. It would be best to remove these animals from your breeding program. Silvers are more likely to have issues with their wee kits, and though breeding silver to silver can have the worst effects, if the other ferret is carrying the silver gene[ but not displaying it], this could account for promlems also.
  2. I would stay away from breeding silvers, personally.
  3. so ill get him to do away wid the ham i supose i better give him some of my suply of rabbits i thought the wafer thin stuff would of been better since it would be easyer to tear and eat will the kits be able to tear into a rabbit at 5 weeks? or would it be better to just cut it up into little bits or somthing At five weeks they should be beginning to tear at the exposed meat [not old enough to open a rabbit themselves or fight through skin and fur], but if they aren't at that stage yet it would be fine to cut it up for them. Rabbit will be perfect.
  4. I wouldn't feed ham mate, very salty processed rubbish. They need good fresh, real raw meat- rabbit, chicken, woodys. atb, CT
  5. I always feed before hunting...I would not hunt with a ferret that needed to be hungry for it to work well.
  6. Unfortunately the show folk have already got their hands on plenty of hybrids. Like some sort of status animal. as for the morons who breed angoras...remember that dull individual who was on here once trying to peddle them for an arm and a leg?
  7. This, exactly. Not to mention, the show folk do love a dark ferret.
  8. I'm sure Wulliah would have had the angora neutered. They should be 'bred out' of existence! They actually fare more poorly in winter than in summer, as they don't have a good undercoat, which is the insulative part of the coat. Me, I like albinos.
  9. Get a smoker and a terrier or five
  10. 700kg ferret. What the HELL do you hunt? And that's only half the size of your own hob! You sure breed em big in Cheshire. Pics, please! Ok, got that out of my system now. You're doing the right thing. Give it as much meat as it will eat, but not too much liver as that will give it the squits.Let us know how he goes.
  11. thats the most ridiculous thing iv herd. all you need a ferret to do is be not very good at killing rabbits. as long as they dont skulk bit or keep laying up. i know some work earths deeper and faster than others but £200 i dont know whos the bigger fool they man with more money than sense or the ferret cuddler who turned down 2 ton! Whilst you, on the other hands, would seemingly have no issue with selling a ferret to a person who had already proven themselves to be a fool, simply by their offer, and who would likely breed the wee jill to death to produce more 'rare' coloured ferrets.
  12. After the last experience I had with Dark Eyed White ferrets, I wouldn't pay anything for them, to be honest. Heck, I probably wouldn't pay anything simply out of principle. I don't like fads.
  13. People have been doing that for years anyway, only have to see the numerous threads on here that have been made about 'breeding silver to silver' and 'What do I breed to get silver?', 'anyone breeding silvers' etc. This forum can be just as bad as the pet forums at times, I am ashamed to say.
  14. Paris Hilton is revolting, what's wrong with ye, lads? Proceed with caution; herpes is imminent! That being said, nice to see a positive article about ferreting. Reckon it'll tick off a few antis!
  15. If you have never seen her work, I would reccomend getting the jill jab or have her mated by a vasectomised hob.
  16. Have fun with that, fellas... Vasectomised hob, jill jab, Suprelorin Implant, neutering. All ways to bring a jill out of heat, plenty of options, no idea why anyone would want to fiddle with their ferrets, to be honest.
  17. Hi mate, you could get both of them neutered by the vet and you wouldn't have to worry about your wee jill being in heat or have to get rid of your hob. You don't have to breed your jill, only take her out of heat as a prolonged season can cause a particular type of blood deficiency if left for too long. You can breed her to a whole hob [kits], breed to a vasectomised hob [false pregnancy], get a jill jab [hormone injection], the Suprelorin Implant [will sterilise for two years] or just neuter[sterilise forever]- which is the easiest option. It would allow your little girl to keep her ferr
  18. Agree with everyone else....seperate ASAP and try to avoid this breeding in the future! The Americans have f****d up their ferrets through breeding silvers and fancy colours. We ough to learn from their mistakes and not go down the same road!
  19. A better question: are they the best workers you can get your hands on? Colour means feck all.
  20. That's got to be a photoshop job! If you feed her nowt but mince she won't be getting enough calcium. Be sure to add some edible bone in there somewhere- chicken necks and wings are fine.
  21. "if your worst is 10 times better than another persons line" Well common sense says that they should nt be breeding from inferior workers it gets said often enough DONT BREED IF YOU CAN GET BETTER STOCK THAN YOU HAVE Y.I.S Leeview I agree COMPLETELY, mate! With so many ferrets about it is so easy to hold out and find really, really top notch stock. Unfortunately, there will always be muppets who value colour over working ability, or who breed just because they can. It does my head in!
  22. I would only seperate at 10 weeks or later. Anyway, selecting 'the very best' out of a litter that you have trialed as workers to keep back and selling on the ones that aren't the very best from that litter doesn't mean that you are just shifting rubbish. For all you know 'the worst' out of that litter may be ten times better at bolting rabbits than 'the best' out of another person's line. Of course you keep the best back to further your line. That's just common sense! Six weeks....WAY to young!
