  1. I had one of those last season. Poor fecker didn't have any top teeth, just those whackin' great lower tusks. It's back teeth were nasty as well, worn right down to little discoloured nubs. He had Myxi as well. One bunny that was just not meant to live.
  2. I always give mine a good feed before going out. I don't go to work on an empty stomach and I can't see the benefit of them doing so either. Ferrets will hunt for fun. IMO having them fed will just mean that they have more energy to chase rabbits with and won't be as inclined to eat them.
  3. I've heard that you need to keep a close eye on those real tree ferts.
  4. A mate of mine lost a dog to 1080 a few weeks ago. Rabbits, fox, feral dogs are common 1080 targets. Domestics are at risk through secondary poisoning.
  5. I've gotten a blue and several that have had various white markings [blazes on forehead mostly]. I've seen a black bolt into some bracken. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera with me.
  6. The laws concerning ferrets in California are a load of bollocks. Especially when you take into acount the fact that the majority of US ferrets are sold already spayed and neutered and that the chance of enough uneutered ferrets surviving long enough to meet up and establish a feral population is very low- in fact it hasn't been an issue in any other US state where ferrets are legal. California is not New Zealand. :11: So why are the laws still in effect? Too much paperwork and too much ignorance is my bet. If you do get a ferret be aware that if you are caught the ferret/s may well
  7. Can anyone tell me their experiences [good or bad] with this finder? Better or worse than others? Cheers.
  8. Thanks DS. How'd it go Mitch? Caught him yet?
  9. From what I can tell a lot of pro-trappers don't seem to like them due to the politics involved. Perhaps thinking that the 'Soft catch' part is a sell out to the antis. However, I figure that if the trap catches and holds the critter without damaging it, well, that speaks for itself in my opinion.
  10. I don't care about colour or what sex they are. As long as they work well.
  11. DS that is nasty beyond belief. I don't envy you for that at all.
  12. Yup, seen a few kittens around my area too. Season is almost over. Good pics and a nice looking fert, mate.
  13. I feed twice a day, once in the morning and again at night. My ferrets work well so I can't complain. I eat before I go out for a hunt and I eat when I get home-ferts have a shorter digestive system than I so if I'm hungry then they must be too, no?
  14. "As you whisper down the phone.." Excellent song.
  15. "Would you sell your story to rolling stone ?"
  16. Mate this has been a lot of fun to read, trial and error, you're telling a good story. Keep with it.
  17. One would hate to have a little online temper tantrum. :11:
  18. Precisley! Why set aside and ignore thousands of years of selective breeding??? You want to go live in a cave too, Bertie? Agreed 100% mate. It's like taking a wolf and expecting it to work sheep/retrieve rabbits/go to ground after foxes. It may do the job, but will it do it as consistently and as well as what a decent dog would? Highly unlikely. Wild poleys belong in the wild, ferrets belong with us, out huntin.
  19. I wouldn't touch them personally mate I like my fingers and prefer to use animals that are meant for the job, not some hybrid wild animal that may or may not be nervous and flighty about handling. Bombproof working ferrets for me
