Yeah! If you told the Social that you had a bath with your NAKED brother today yer Mam and Da would get banged up! Mind, I used to get back from school and the Mum would be listening to "Mrs Dales Diary". "I'm worried about Jim". Well frankly luv so you should be. He's clearly a dodgy old twot. Memories are made of this. . .

As above. While you are going for your DSC you will be using a gun supplied by your tutor. If and when you get your DSC you will be able to apply for a variation on your own FAC for a deer calibre. In England and Wales that means a .243. ATB, Ric

Sitting in the back of me Dad's Baby Austin with me kid brother while the Mum and Dad were in the pub. Packet of Smith's crisps and a bottle of Vimto apiece. The salt for the crisps was in a little bag of blue paper. Sometimes you got two! Wow! Really seriously exciting! Bugger off out for the day Sunday no worries about paedos for the Mum and Dad. Drowning yes, falling down cliffs yes, getting run over by a STEAM TRAIN, yes. Made it though. The cod liver oil and malt extract every day must have worked. Those were the days my friend. Ric

How do you know they're junkies? Been selling to them? They are clearly dodgy but don't jump to conclusions. I have known people who drowned kittens, bunged 'em in a sack and slung 'em in the cut. Is it less cruel to drown a kitten than a pup? If so, why? Ric

This is the way it should be, as far as I can recall the forms say "calibre" not "chambering". Even then, it's pretty much pointless. I mean, who cares if you buy a .22-250 or a .223? You're not any more likely to accidentally kill someone with one or the other and land suitable for one is unlikely not to be suitable for t'other. Actually, your example is okay as far as it goes but the calibre of a .300 Mag (all of them) is actually .308. So, surely, you aren't authorised to buy any of the .300 mags? It' all rubbish, quite honestly. I mean, the nominal diameter of a .303 bullet is some

Wha? Several with one shot? Wha'da fuk were you using? 14.5 mm Dragunov? Sorry . . . couldn't resist it. Ric

We shall see! If my game plan works out I'll be using a 1-in-11 twist which should stabilise up to 45gr and still hit 3800 fps. Ric

There's a great description in "The Once and Future King" of a boar hunt in the Middle Ages. The dogs were approximately beagles, hunting by scent, and "gazehounds", like greyhounds hunting by sight. Then when it went down and dirty the Alaunts went in. Big mean tough buggers. They were all supposed to chivvy the boar onto the hunter, rather like Ridgebacks chasing a lion onto the gun. The main man waits for the pig to arrive, and sets his boar spear in place. This was a big spear with a cross-piece 18" behind the head. The boar charges the spear, impales himself, and keeps trying to get to th

Difficult question. How much is a Mark 2 ferret worth?

They rescue crows? And pigeons? As said ducky these are vermin, pest species. If you find an injured feral pigeon you might go "Ah, poor likkle burdie. Let me save your life so you can carry on passing your revolting diseases to other burdy-wurdies." Or you might wring its bloody neck. They also "rescue" urban foxes, mange ridden diseased scabby dustbin scavengers, and let them loose in the wild, where they die slowly and painfully. This is the kind of mentality that released mink from farms and bloody near wiped out otters in the process. AND remember that if they don't get a "place" for them,

Sam - thanks for that! Given my dodgy eyesight I expect to go for a high mag sight. I'm still havering between 6-24 and 8-32. What reticle does the IOR have? Since my shooting is likely to be long range, over the Downs, I'm attracted by the idea of a very simple thin crosshair sight. I don't want a "ballistic reticle" with a load of junk getting in the way of the sight picture. I'd sooner get a good laser rangefinder and dial in the drop. Sounds like the IOR goes on the list of possibles along with Swarovsky, S&B, Zeiss, and Kahles. Lewdan - I totally agree with Sam about barrel le

Not as much as I am!

I'm not speaking from experience, but I am planning to build a .204 and have done a lot of research. With regard to the gun, it is clear that, as Snap says, this round is very sensitive to the action. Ruger works well which is less than surprising since they and Hornady designed the round in the first place. The continental actions don't seem to cope well at all. But, again in line with Snap's comment, the Remington 700 looks like the dog's dodgy bits! I have found several American sites where folk have had much the same experience as Snap's mate, trying several actions and ending up with Remi

Ha! Never mind the 7.62 I want that combat shotgun! 7 rounds in the mag+1 in the chamber, all loaded with 5s, that is one sitty tree wasted!

If both calibres are firing a bullet of the same weight, which is obviously the case most of the time, then the volume of the sound will depend upon the velocity of the bullet. Assume that the muzzle blast is absorbed by a good moderator, which is generally true, then the percieved sound is the sonic boom generated by the transit of the bullet. A bullet carrying more energy,ie travelling faster, must generate a louder sonic boom. On the other hand, the difference in perceived level is so small that it ain't worth worrying about. Ric

Ho-hum. Thick as very thick things. Do we have to explain it or just give up?

You don't. You get down off a duck

Keep it. Make sure he knows the final bill and tell him if he pulls a dumb stunt like that again he pays every penny. Then tell him it's done and dusted for this time. You could have stopped him, and you could have put your wellies on so you pay the balance! For the record, my daughter is 19 and no worse than most adolescents, better than some. Ric

Hello Ric, most of the boar in this area are in Gloucestershire(forest of dean) with a few over the border in Herefordshire, they have become quite shy and more nocturnal over the last couple of year's mainly because of poaching, we have shot seven this winter and out of those three of them had small caliber bullet's lodged in them!!!(found when skinned) You definately need a heavy bullet to stop them i.e. large caliber, quite often the boar will run on but if you leave a couple mins after your shot they are normally easy enough to find! Stando - Yeah, Forest of Dean it is. My mistake.
