  2. dont really matter what the cross is as long the size is suited to what your'e gonna do with it and the size of fields you'll run it in. most important is how you bring the dog on. needs a lot of time and knowledge but there's plenty of good info available on here
  3. castration definitely wouldn't affect the running / working ability of a dog. as to whether you should or not is completely a different matter. best ask round lads in your area to find a vet sympathetic to working dogs. his/her advice may be very different.
  4. always fed my dogs early morning. never fed before running. always feed extra after lamping for recovery. anyone ever tried running round with a belly full of snap ?
  5. never had a hancock dog but a good friend has. saw this dog work every week and its the best dog i've ever seen . as for puppy peddling , he's a breeder . plenty more breeders of all kinds of dogs out there . but at least with one of his lurchers you know exactly whats in the lineage , which is more than can be said for most lurcher pups for sale . like the generation game trying to remember whats in em. as for someone saying they'd never buy a pup they'd not seen work , any pup i'd brought on to work would never be sold and just to clarify , i dont personally know hancock and i've never ev
  6. lurcher any day . the idea of a lurcher is breeding a sight hound / long dog with ( traditionally) pastoral breed of dog to add the qualities you require to the end result.
  7. i'd agree with putting your time into one of the pups. to get the best out of any pup demands loads of time and i doubt you'll get the best trying to bring two on at the same time. just aint gonna happen

  9. thats generally why people leave it alone this time of year
  10. horses for courses mate. just thought i'd give anyone who's interested a heads up. i'm not claiming they're better than any other lamp but the price surely is !
  11. £110.00 for the battery and charger. delivery's a tenner so they gave me the lamp for £12
  12. 2.5 hours constant 5 hours on and off . twice the length of time of the 12v 7ah sla and considering the package with the 12v sla is about £100 and a lithium battery and charger alone is about £110 i dont think its bad at all
  13. a couple of days ago i phoned cluson and spoke to tom mead there about whether a 6v lamp could be upgraded to a 12 as in future i would be going to upgrade to a lithium. this i said was as they didnt offer what i wanted in a package with a lithium. this is what he came up with and as far as i can see beats any package on the market. 12v clubman deluxe lamp ( 50w main bulb and metal reflector ) 12v 9.2 ah lithium battery in canvas pouch and lithium charger and the price .............. £132.00 inc vat and postage . with either jackplug or cigar connectors depending which you want. order
  14. i was , very kindly , sent some dvd's to watch by a member on here. amongst them was one by dave sleight called " purdey's progress " , dealing with the training of a working lurcher from pup to a year old. anyone bringing on a young dog would do well to look this one up. some good info on there.

  18. was gonna keep mine in the house and just kennel him after a nights work when he's wet an covered in shite. after seeing this he'll probably make a better dog if i just chain him up in the garden over winter.
