  1. hey bob ive got a few pics some of abbey but i ll need to get the help fae the kids eh as long as i dont need to use the one wi my exwife in it when she ( the dog not the ex) became a champion.
  2. my opinion after nearly 40 yrs involvement wi racing / running dogs is of course there has to be a balance but the real dogmen know that every dog is different, some love walking others need it to keep them keen, overrunning can aggrevate some injuries, walking them early does toughen up pads, tendons, joints etc, running helps them find their feet and balance when young etc. i think its a question of knowing your dog / dogs and treating them accordingly
  3. i was contacted at the weekend by a local farmer on the recomendation of another re clearing some rabbits for him, i went out this morning for a wee guided tour mostly hedges but ferrets and guns no probs seems to be plenty of bunnies too. i asked about taking a lurcher and after meeting one of my bitches he has agreed but recounted a recent event where he ( in his 70's) aproached some guys coursing with 6 or 7 dogs and was politely told where to go or theyd burn down his farm. talk about shooting ourselves in the foot hey im not saying always do everything by the letter of the law but a wee b
  4. still a babe have patience try a dead rabbit on a line
  5. expert sounds a belter, lurchers not intelligent? one of my bitches knows 40 odd words or commands, retrieves just about anything including shot game, works all sorts of nets, works with terriers and ferrets and has a few gundog scurry prizes under her belt. ive just realised ive been done the fecker that sold me her as a pup has done me she cant be a lurcher! anyone know trading standards number
  6. hey mattyd looks like weve got mutual mate paddys a real pain he should be x rated hes sneaky with it makes you think hes your pal then locks on your leg, i blame bob he must be a bad influence. but seriously guys ive known loads of whippets horny sods including one who tried to rape the pet cat
  7. ive worked racers in the past aye well known open class ones never had a problem maybe even makes them stronger exercising muscles they wouldn't use on flat grass defo gave them more stamina come race day bring on the re runs

  10. am i missing something? what about scottish guys travelling to shows i believe the rules/laws are a little diferent but i admire the point of sticking together
  11. i wouldnt be too quick to have the toe off, be patient give it a proper chance to heal, once its off theres a lot more pressure on the remaining toes and real heartache if another one goes. its coming in to a quiet time of year anyway loadsa herbal remedys and supplements out there but talk to a proper vet 1st if you dont know any try the nearest greyhound track atb
  12. another minority group seems to have been missed guys...................genuine running dog men!
  13. i shouldnt rise to the bait but, ive been in running dogs for 40yrs and the simple truth is if his place wasnt up to scratch the council would close him, if his pups were no good no one would buy them. ive only met the guy once but with a lifetime in lurchers he came across as knowledgable and matter of fact, to the point of being blunt but after years of slagging cant say i blame the guy. some of his stock go back generations from workers. he knows what he breeds he knows where his stock comes from he knows their strengths and weaknesses and is honest about them he gives a guarantee with his
  14. theres a few pics and opinions on page three
  15. bob your making me feel old mate just dont tell your old man about my shed eh
  16. shed been doin ok but has pulled a nail but a wee rest will do her good still not had a season mate hopin that calms her down a bit.im wary of lamping her too much as shes got a fearsome prey drive bouncing off fences and throwin herself into brambles and ditches. getting better with this gate net but only on a couple of local fields strange or new places seem to throw her but we,ll get there. shes nailed a few pheasants and woodies but the best was a greylag maybe been winged by wildfowlers but hey it tasted great. ferreting seems to be her thing and her concentration is building with each ou
  17. sorry for any confusion jazz is 3/8 beardie border and 5/8 greyhound her litter brother is ricks lenny above
  18. cheers boyo shes not 2 yet but been doin really well nearly 25in and 48lb
  19. i use the dummy when a pup technique i believe this also helps them pick up sitters
  20. just to add my tuppence guys, my collie cross which is almost 2 and very brainy loses all sense as her prey drive is so strong. a wee bit of luck and this will change as she matures, shes not had a season yet and this could help. personally id go more for brains in a pot filling type lurcher and leave the do or die trying for the out and out coursers.
  21. knew a copper in the 's who lamped a doberman retrieved bunnies live to hand took foxes and hares also
  22. real lurchermen (or women) for the most part keep to themselves, they work hard training their dogs, getting and keeping permission and don't need to display pics of their deeds. theres also too many individuals (cant use the words lurchermen or hunters) willing to steal ground, dogs or ferrets
  23. gotta agree a pup reared by yourself will be much better and just finding its legs for next autumn
  24. id be up for anything to help our sport but would some kind of petition not get a few names how many members are on here for a start remember politics is a numbers game if the guys in suits get the message that a lot of hunters, shooters and fishers (and family and freinds) are up in arms perhaps there would be more chance of them listening
