This would point to it being purely a diet based problem, the kits did not have as much roughage as I would normally give as I am moving shortly and didn’t have much rabbit stocked up for this reason. Having looked into the disease mentioned above it would be genetic and diet only a small contribution towards them getting ill. I have always given mince to kits at the early stage and never had a problem before and this led me to believe it would have to be genetically related. Has any one else who has had this problem given kits mince or butchered meat rather than hole carcass? if

The easiest way to tell the sexes is jills have an anal opening & vaginal opening very close together the hobs will have an anal opening & then follow up the stomach from the anal opening & you will find his penis ...i would say its about half an inch in distance between the two

I reccon i should get the job .. i would introduce performance related pay if they dont perform to the high standards expected then they get stuff all Do they get paid when they play for there country better check first :laugh:

The scratching at the mesh sounds typical of an entire hob .. i know mine does a hell of a lot of it & did the same last year .. I would also be inclined to think that the patches could be the result of the rhythmic scratching rubbing on the wire .. same sort of thing when ferrets get some hair loss on there bellys when using a pop hole If he is in good health generally i would simply keep an eye on him & act accordingly if the thinning gets any worse

Its hormonal behaviour usually associated with a phantom pregnancy .. you said there not in season so i assume you have either had them jabbed or they have been run with a vasectomised hob ?

What your describing i have seen in much older more mature ferrets especially entire hobs .. if the orange specks are on the skin & right on the hair follicle in this case it simply turned out to be excess oils that the ferret produced that had basically solidified on to the skin I cant say i have seen it in such young ferrets .. but if your taking them to the vets anyway anything else can be ruled out .. Let us know how you get on ..

what do you win if your fert gets first place? never really paid much attention when i saw fert stalls at the game fair. stuck a fiver on a fert race at scone game show for a laugh. didnt win think it had been nobbled lol You got a rosette or a small cup years ago .. they seem to do huge cups & christ knows what else now & a lot of shows have sponsers for each class so i imagine the money is just to buy the big cups & rosettes

I havent been to a show for years .. at best i simply found them to be about the '' faces'' on the scene at the time .. not really to do with the ferrets I doubt its any different now .. they seem to have any tom dick or harry judging .. when i first kept ferrets & had a dabble at showing the shows were quite well attended & they didnt have a colour class for every imaginable colour .. have had some good days out but then in the 90's it got silly ... the bitching was pretty spectacular as well i think todays shows are a far cry form days gone by when you had people like le

All i have ever done with kits is do the bulk of the handling after there bellys are full of meat & they usually couldnt care less what you do with them

theres loads of members joining the site.. never posting & using the shout box to try & sell mainly dogs is there anything that can stop people using the shout box .. say so many posts on the main forum.. i know mods delete shoutbox comments .. when there spotted

the most natural way would be weaning the young .. but that's a gradual reduction .. in this case if theres any reddening of the teats & they have gone hard & lumpy & hot to the touch then its possibly mastitis .. ring your vet in the morning & ask them whats best to do in this case

You should be able to tell the difference between 2 ferrets that look alike by handling them they all feel different
