  1. Ahh f***ing hell tomo, we're going to be put through the British army's reenactment of brokeback mountain, starring socks as the lead, again now!
  2. Politics really don't seem to be his strong point of late! LOL
  3. Haha, that's what I was thinking. Where are those antis? I take it neither of you are fans?? Have a good day!! If you used the rest of the site you'd realise that bow hunting has created a bit of controversy recently. I don't think Socks' or Remmys comments on this thread were intended to be interpreted as anti bowhunting. More anticipation of the hornets nest it could stir up.
  4. Dunno what you're worried about... when was the last time a Brit was killed by a shark!? No, wait! ermmmmm LOL LOL
  5. You reckon? How many high value terrorists have we captured in a war zone and treated like that? He'll either be vaporised by an air strike or turned into a human colander by SFs. LOL I read recently of a Gurkha just been let off for beheading a Taliban high value target after killing him as proof of identity!
  6. But not so much the skill, just using one of the ancient hunting arts (albeit in it's modern high tech form) would be a very satisfying feeling to me as a hunter. I still think, in absence of legally being able to stalk a roe or red in English woodland, North America would be the place I'd want to bow hunt. Hell, if I could ever manage to leave the quintessential British hunting sports behind for another life, it'd be North America hunting with bow, hounds and a handfull of traps, hunting the way my ancestors did thousands of years ago.
  7. Impeccable timing. Great stuff! Got to say, hunting in Africa has never really appealed to me (even if I could afford it) but love reading/seeing reports of folks that do. More posts!!!
  8. Be a shame if the yanks get him. I was rather hoping we would. The yanks will want this as a propaganda victory for them, I bet the FBI have been putting a lot of pressure on MI5 over this.
  9. You don't need to convince me of the rights and wrongs of hunting. Why do people think that just because they can justify it in their own heads that every other human would see that justification if they just had it explained to them? That's a bit too much like fundamentalism! That attitude can very easily be applied against what hunting sports you and I love so it makes no sense to me to be a follower of the same ignorant attitude. Far better to be accepting of others even if it's not for me.
  10. Well that's fine, but half the British public can't get their heads round why we would want to set a terrier on a fox or a lurcher on bambi. Different hunts make different folks tick. The only thing I took exception to in this whole thread is people thinking it's right to beat the chap for his personal choice of hunting. You may think he'd be against whaling but if he's owt like me he wouldn't be. LOL. In terms of ethical kill, whaling is even more righteous as I believe these days the developed countries that partake in the activity (Japan and norway) use explosive harpoons. But that's an
  11. Just the RAF have a Rivet signals intel recon plane flying from Qatar to monitor ISiL communications, as well as six Tornado GR4 with their high res recon imaging kit. Not to mention our SF intelligence gathering ops going on and MI6 and GCHQ among other lesser known military intelligence branches actively gathering intelligence, names, locations etc etc. The fact they know a Brit was one there doesn't suprise me at all when you look at the capability of just what we have over there. Never mind the combined capability of the coalition and it's intelligence allies.
  12. How do they know..... They have aircraft with hi res imaging equipment, they have signals intelligence, they have human intelligence, they have SFs relaying real time intelligence. But now you're going to tell me I'm deluded that I believe they have this capability?
  13. I know that mate. lol. An arrow kills like a knife, severing soft tissue in a an area of the body that has a high density of blood vessels (primarily the heart/lungs), the animal bleeds out and looses consciousness when it has a critical drop in blood pressure. Following the blood trail is as an important skill as being able to pinwheel the fecker. A high velocity bullet, like an 85gr 25-06 (the only deer cal I have experience with), has the much debated hydrostatic knock down. It kills the same way really with a critical drop in blood pressure but the animal isn't usually as physically ab
  14. Strictly speaking, I'd say he was hunting it for the experience as opposed to killing something for the sake of it. We might not rate that experience but I'm sure plenty don't at all rate the hunting experiences that we hold in the highest value. Cowboy....... Indian surely? LOL
  15. That's a fair point JD and part of the reason I wouldn't ever want to arrow an elephant. It doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. But is it really any differrent to shooting with a shotgun where there is a good chance of a bird being pricked and not picked? How many birds on a typical shootday visably take lead but keep flying strong? But again, it comes down to our sentiment. The elephant has more right than the game bird simply because..... The bow hunter wants a good clean shot and a rapid bleed out just like the Gun wants a good center of pattern hit and dead in the air drop..... I ju
  16. That's fine Wilf, I wouldn't want to kill an elephant with a 500 nitro never mind a bow. We all have our own personal hunting dos and don'ts. My gripe is with those that would judge the man in question exactly the same way the antis judge us. It's hypocrasy! I'm sure he didn't go out to 'hurt something' anymore than you would if you went out to run a deer or dig a fox.... but there is suffering involved to the quarry in both. And both you are likely doing for your own enjoyment, even if you are providing a service to the landowner or sticking some venison in the freezer. But that's alright bec
  17. Wasn't the same after Kate died and Nick left....
  18. Which one? LOL I think there was about four.
  19. The original ones were the best. I vaguely remember a badger digging one and a rabies outbreak, sheep russeling where Alfred nearly got the bullet and a few coursing ones...
  20. I assume the CZ CFs have the controlled feed bolt mechanism like their RF siblings? Same as the Winchester 70, the mechanism certainly seems to produce reliability judging by popular opinion.
  21. For political posts there is a stark lack of change in policy! It's an ethical argument, political consiquences are neither here nor there. A typical tory/CA type would sell out the lesser sports to save their own........ You're as good at profiling as Accip. If you have a problem with my posts on another thread be my guest to point out where my delusions are... I called you a fool for the statement "it's wrong because he's doing it for fun", not for any other reason and I stand by that. It wasn't untill after that you changed your reasons to ones of inflicting suffering.
  22. They also don't seem to have much of an idea how to deal with ISIL in Syria! LOL. Turned out a bit of an embarassment that one.
  23. They need to be honest with the realities of this campaign and that's that if local ground forces can't produce results then our only option will be to do the ground campaign ourselves. Air and Naval strikes will give these ground forces a huge boost but they still have to win the war town to town and house to house the old fashioned way. Lets hope the local malitias save our lads the trouble... We know UK/US special forces are over there doing their secret squirrel shit but it's worth remembering how effective the SF task forces were at dealing with the rising insurgency after the coaliti
  24. Totally agree with that......its human nature to think our way is the best way we all do it.........but over time when you get a more rounded view of sport and hunting as a whole and can seperate the two you start to respect other methods different to your own with an acceptance that human beings will ultimately make their own choices based on their own understanding and thats how it should be. And unfortunately it's my nature to challenge those views in my usual 'shoot first send flowers later' manner, when I should really just say "yeah, what a wanker.....". LOL
  25. But the animal still suffers due to our personal choice of hunting method.... Humans hunting with sharpened projectiles (spears etc) has been around for thousands of years, much longer than the high velocity bullet, it's the most basic and natural form of hunting large game we have. We could throw justifications at each other all day but I can't see past the ethics of suffering in both cases. I hunt because it's deeply ingrained in my genetics..... I hunt with dogs because to my senses it's such a natural way of hunting that it satisfies that primitive hunter in me...... much the same as b
