  1. Now you're thinking fella. Yeah wind could push the water about creating a systematic error and thermal gradients can cause light to refract and bend. In fact when this experiment was done donkeys years ago on a canal the result was that the earth was flat! LOL LOL. The chap hadn't accounted for thermal effect close to the ground. Once he raised his experiment up a bit he avoided that problem.
  2. Mate this isn't about politics, just interesting facts. I'll be the first to tell folks were progressing into a shit storm if we don't get aware. You're absolutely right though, but then that is why that first fact is so interesting I think. It's counter intuitive and then makes you think just how much of the Earths surface we are using considering how little we as individuals take up.
  3. Here's a calculator from the net. https://dizzib.github.io/earth/curve-calc/?d0=5000&h0=473000&unit=metric NYC is 5000km away and you need to get h0 to equal h1, then that is ypur height difference. Try 473000m! The maths isn't linear like you were treating it and ive not got it to hand but that website basically does it.
  4. Like i said im not sure about crossing the atlantic. But with my little canoeing lake, then yes the water curves making the middle look 12cm higher than either end. As you say you could use a laser, or simply light, to prove it.
  5. Of course. This wasn't meant to be political in anyway. Just a statement of mathematical fact.
  6. Pretty much! Except were sat in an old farm house, poor lighting, open fire and munching on jerky. LOL
  7. Im not sure we can extrapolate all the way to America, I'd have to check that my working is valid. But yeah you understand what I'm saying.
  8. When I'm round there's I say its because I'm a passive stoner.
  9. Spoiler! The middle of the lake would appear to rise 12cm from level!
  10. Not got it to hand lol. Its in the bin now. Basically there's a 2.5km lake at my gym and I thought it'd be brilliant field experiment for kids because it's probably long enough to measure a significant difference in apparent height, due to the earth curving, between the middle and each end. So I worked it out to make sure.
  11. Ive had some really deeeeep chats with mates who partake. LOL I wonder if people like me have some sort of naturally stoned brain chemistry. Normal folks don't seem to appreciate this shit like stoners!
  12. Sit down mate, my next one is a real doozy!
  13. There's to much really cool shit to discover. Mind blowing stuff! Makes ya really think... Ps I think the answer to the rope around the earth question is 8cm from memory. Haven't worked it out recently but thats f***ing mad right? Basically increasing the earth circumfrance by just a single meter would raise the ground level by 8cm!
  14. Here's another cool one. If we wrapped a rope all the way around the earth until both ends meet and then added a single meter of extra rope to it, how far off the ground would the rope be able to stand all the way around the earth (not just in one spot)? The answer is unbelievable!
  15. Yep, everyone on the planet could have a 100 cubic meters of their own space and we'd all fit in Texas! I've done the calculation to prove it. LOL
  16. I haven't done the maths but I can do if ya want? LOL Just for fun I worked out the curvature of the water sports centre canoeing lake the other day. It'll be fun!
  17. More names, less substance..... Give me one example of a PET lion being shot as part of a legit African sport hunt. At least you're not using the word 'murder' anymore......... and incorrectly. Let me try to bring some substance to your argument for you, bless ya. Canned hunting happens and is probably what you're referring too. Plenty of countries and outfits that hunt proper wild quarry under fair chase. Pretending that Canned hunting is the standard is again like pretending all dog men run their quarry down with their scooby.
  18. With little or no leaf cover very easily.... They can't see through solid matter though (heavy leaf cover). No matter what folks think it's no f***ing Hollywood X-ray vision. LOL. There has to always be some direct line of sight. Likewise they can't see through windows. The thermal image is that of the window. IMO they're not the tool of a sportsman. It's too easy in my experience. Certainly with a rifle. With a running dog I can see the justification, especially for covert operations. Nevertheless, each to his own.
  19. Oh she defends things she thinks are wrong then? Weird! It's like you can't even keep on topic so just revert to another insult. I know you think that big game hunters only do it to look hard and powerful so calling me a coward and a girl makes sense to you but it's actually piss funny. If you were able to string together a decent factually grounded counter argument you wouldn't need to bounce around all over the place with such gutter level tactics.
  20. f***ing LOL. I'm still waiting for you to actually start your argument! So far you have just made a load of unsupported statements and thrown out the odd Nazi and coward. Things might be a bit arse about face where you're from, but in England we defend things we believe in, not the other way around.
  21. Anti hunting sentiments that are little supported by actual evidence. Like most anti sentiments. You're allowed to be against certain kinds of hunting fella. But back it up with evidence, like how folks who hunt mega fauna have different motivation to folks who hunt deer or whatever. Back it up because just throwing out the crap you are is exactly the same MO as bog standard gutter antis.
  22. I believe that you honestly believe that but the truth is you have made it up based on the biased shite you have seen on TV and in the papers. As a fella that does all the domestic forms of hunting and shooting the UK offers, the attraction is exactly the same. Dominance and power has nothing to do with it. Bizarre having to counter cliched anti arguments on a hunting site.
  23. Yes they may well be gone, but it won't be the fault of sport hunting. It'll be the encroachment of agriculture and poaching. They are factually proven the two greatest threats to such species and environments but you just wont accept these facts. Two threats which sport hunting is used to mitigate. I can't make you accept or read the facts. I have said I can show you proper evidence but you're not interested, got your opinion, nothing to back it up other than false claims and now you are leaving. The white rhino was on it's arse in South Africa a few decades ago. Then the gov passe
