  1. its not just collies that turn them off the ditch mate any good lamping dog should do this. well my dogs the only one i have seen do it.
  2. a good thing about my colie coss is if there is a rabbit to one side of the field she will push them away from the fence where other dogs would chase through the fence, i have noticed this alot and i prefer the way a collie works, cutting game off etc. i do like to watch bull crosses etc work it is mpressive the amount of determination they have but i know im not resonsible for the vet bills.
  3. Running a rabbit that you have slipped your dog on don't mean its Reckless, or that it will run Recklessly. Collie crosses for lamping need something else in them most of the time before they will run the lamp on what you slip them on and not what they want to run. yeah my dog is quater beddy as well as quater collie
  4. hi mate mine is 5mnths and 23" id be happy at 25" but the way he is growing its lookin like he will be bigger yeah probly end up like the sire, think my bitch probly end up like her dam, maybee half inch or so taller.
  5. yeah mine will hit cover if the rabbits there i mean the likes of bull crosses where if they chase a rabbit through the same fence 9 times they will try just as hard the tenth time when theres obviously no hope. i am a great believer that collie crosses can estimate thier own capabilities and judge weather a run is feasible or not, where other more simple minded crosses only think 'kill'. whos the boss mate u r your dog its as simple as this if u slip your dog on a rabbit and your dog dont move its a jacker simple as whats the point in keeping a dog that only goes for easy rabbits.most col

  7. exactly the same for me, my dog has never been laid up yet (touch wood, where as my mates dog is laid up nearly everytime hes out as his pray drive is so high. he is laid up at the minute with a very nasty leg injury for the sake of a day time rabbit.
  8. i have also got 5 month pup whos father was 3/4 grey collie 27 tts and dam first cross 25 tts. she is just over 21 at minute, and 35 lbs whats yours?
  9. maybee where you go but very rarely happens where i go, especially late on in season they like lightening getting through. she will hit the bush if she allready coursing it though.
  10. i can live with it but it gets on me nerves sometimes. but when a think it is jst a waste of energy.
  11. just wondering if all collie crosses leave thier hedge rabbits when they know theres no cance of catching them or do some still ru right up just to watch it through the fence?
  12. to me a lurcher is a companion first, doesnt need to be a super dog as long as it makes the owner happy. my dog is no super dog, standing at 22 tts, beddy whippet x collie grey, but i can go out on a good night and bring home twenty odd rabbits and a few big ones and i know that she will try her best at what ever is in front of her. i can go out during the day and she will hunt non stop, in and out the bushes all day long picking up pheasents etc and it gives me great pleasure to watch her. she will lie on the couch all day as if she was 12 year old, totally placid around people and other dogs
  13. I can say my dog is 100 % broken without a doubt, she is collie cross, but I can say one thing you can never trust a bull cross
  14. I have a bitch, twenty month, 22 tts. Very clever better lamp dog than day, but v good busher and moocher. Had hundereds of rabbits this season and about 30 big ones on lamp. Game for f and d and never had an injury yet. Will get a pic up in few days as I have just moved house and internet not sorted yet so I am on my mobile.

  18. do people think this is the best way to get a dog fit. never really done much with mine but have been the last few nights as my cars been broke so have to walk to the fields. cheers.
  19. exactly, a dog can be good at both shit at both or good at one. dont know how you have come up with that bollocks. a dog might not have the pace for daytime in big fields but will on lamp.

  22. Was out mooching yeaterday with my bitch and collie grey pup. My bitch pushed a rabbit out of a bush and it ran towards the pup, she grabbed it and gave it a,bit of a,ragg before bringingin it to me. This is the first time she has shown interest in them and started to chase them from a distanc after this, so after a couple of goes she was put on the lead. Looking good though for not even five month
  23. Nice dogs, what hight and weight are they when fit
