  1. Yes mate, have had cockers.....lovely busy dogs but ive found you need to keep on top of them but hey, I'm no trainer.....well done on the widgeon......cock or hen ?
  2. All about preferences mate, I have a spaniel but I rough shoot mainly and need a dog that works cover (although some labs will......but not as well as a spaniel !)......if you want a dog to pick ducks off a pond or pigeons from a hide or pheasants from a peg then probably a lab fits the bill.....but I'm a spaniel kind of fella......
  3. Quality pics mate......I passed 2 that were dead on the side of the A1 today within 200 yards of each other.......
  4. leeds market sell heads some times cod heads the Chinese bye most of them to make soup an sell it your a lucky man if can get for free mate I occasionally buy them in Leeds for myself, some of those big old cod heads make a tidy meal...
  5. Keep at it Z..... keep us updated and the are some pics....
  6. Do it Z..... nearer the water sounds like a plan lol.....straight barrels and dry powder my friend.
  7. If it windy then the birds will come into the pond with the wind into their faces, so you should know which side they will be coming from. Other than that if you stand in the middle (not the pond obviously)' you give yourself half a chance. Wet and wind won't put duck off mate......sometimes they find bettter feeding elsewhere......just keep feeding regular and you will get there.....
  8. Cheers bell, lol true I didn't disturb much at all!, I've been practising my calls, feeding chuckles, the normal quacks, and there alright on my ACME caller.. when should I use the caller ? Thanks. If I'm honest I think on an inland splash if there are ducks buzzing over your head then they are intent on coming in for the feed that you have put out and using a caller is probably not necessary ( but it adds to the occasion !!).... I think they will either come in or not.....bit like putting a few deeks out.....its part of the ceremony ....are they necessary ?..... probably not lol..altho

    Good Night

Well done HP....keep at it, cock or hen wigeon ?.....I've yet to shoot a full plumage cock wigeon, had hen birds and sub adult cocks, ......going to get the first one mounted.....
  12. Haha, it wouldn't be any fun if it was easy Z....I would keep feeding this week and shoot next weekend, doesn't sound like you disturbed too many lol...as a rule they don't 'quack' (although if it Quacks I shoot it lol).....get yourself a call and learn the feeding calls etc.....teal are easy to call, mallard feeding call...look on YouTube ... I'm up north in a week or so chasing woodcock and teal...will put some pics up... Keep at it...you will crack it.
  13. I tell you what, I just love this site, there are some proper cranks on here that don't half make me laugh lol
  14. Let us know how you get on. I shot a frozen splash a few years ago, the duck still,came.....recall dropping a wigeon that slid 30'yards along the ice....
  15. That's you for it now Mush.......something is definitely going to put the willies up you
  16. Did they manage to put your fingers back on ? Unfortunately not. My thumb was dislocated, and my middle finger was sewn back on but the tendon was cut and had to be joined so I cannot straighten it. TC I lost the tip of my middle finger at work and it was worth it for the payout. I would do it again tomorrow but I don't know if money could tempt me with that, looks a mess. Oh it's not that bad and the women seem to like it. TC It was a very strange sensation using the finger for the first time after having the end took off. She said.............
  17. Bummer HPR........being in Lincolnshiren you should be out in the mud on the coast, not shooting tame inland flappers like us
  18. One bucket a night HPR. I'm away up north in a couple of weeks after teal and woodcock. Will stick some pics up when I get back. Best of luck.
  19. Yes mate, windy night will muffle your shots and not put approaching birds off....keep at it.
  20. put a permanent hide up asap so the ducks can get used to it. ideally you want to feed it everyday in the afternoon and push off anything thats on it. Dont shoot at them or they wont come back. one bucket full should feed a hundred ducks as a rule of thumb. As has been said, get there half hour before dark and hope for a wet and windy night. when positioning your hide you want to be aware of the wind direction and also you want to be looking at the lightest part of the sky......... let us know how you get on.
  21. He's already said in his opening post there ar 2 eggs mate ?

    Bullet Proof

Sign of the times, unless it's domestic violence (hot potatoe) or something that suits their agenda then I'm afraid the fuzz are not bothered. If Joe public only knew what was going on re arrest rates, non charge disposals etc....
  23. Low to the ground.......sparrowhawk.....
