  1. there is a risk in everything you slip your dog on. be it a rabbit you dont put a helmet on your mut incase it runs in to a wall.. well at least i dont.. you cant wrap them in cotton wool there is a risk everytime your dogs off the lead
  2. there aint much worth saying mate but i can tell you its no bullshit as i was there and the 2 bullx were on it one had a neck hold and the other was on its flank and they NEVER looked like pulling it until it hit a fence and toppled over. we ran up to it with the dazzler and we all panned it.. apart from 1 lad that tried to grab its head gear the red just got up and carried on running with the muts attached into a wood line we waited for 15 mins and the muts come back all be it worse for wear and we called it a night. with the lads from liverpool saying "it was the size of a fecking horse"
  3. as a well traveled hunter yourself, would you say that they are not needed for muntjac??? incidents that can cause death are a few and far between and i woudnt bother with a chest plate mate (pre ban of course)
  4. if your pulled by old bill with a dog with a chest plate on you try convincing them your after rats and rabbits....
  5. if it aint learnt after catching a few how to handle them and you find it in the pen lame more often than your out i wouldnt be keeping it as a deer dog. As has been said before there are deer dogs that catch the odd uns and end up with cuts and bruises and there are deer dogs that do it week in week out without so much as a scratch. but if you need a ozzy style chest plate for a munty i would stick to catching rabbits.
  6. i have a place 30 mins from my house that is crawling with reds and i mean crawling. if someone tries telling you there beddy x got one in a vulcan death grip flipped it and job was a good un tell them to feck off... i no some lads (preban) who came down from liverpool to run them and was giving it the bigun with 2 bull xs saying they would pull them needless to say it didnt go to plan. you can forget about running these bad boys with one dog or doubled up even when its been pulled it aint over. and as for you helping out while its on the deck well your a bigger man then i am....
  7. never heard of a 20 year old bull x.. on a serious note just be a good dog if you remember it 20 years ago
  8. if you have a dog that getting oppened up that often that it needs a chest plate it aint suited to the deer game
  9. You have obviously never caught any muntjac bucks - locally I know of a number of dogs killed by muntjac and a few years back I saw a 26" bull cross bleed to death after being opened up by muntjac. I also know of dogs killed by fallow and sika F**king hell now it takes a game dog to kill a Munty,Ive heard it all. I said nothing at all about game dogs or killing muntjac - just that muntjac and other deer kill dogs from time to time, whereas foxes don't do this. I have two mates who have had dogs killed by muntjac-related accidents which happened while they were out rabbiting just in

  14. the truth is that probably half the comments on here is off people who have never caught a deer with a dog and are dreamers. if you have had a dog that could pull them day in day out after being dragged about kicked etc then fair play i reckon not alot have...
  15. same here aint really a coursing only type bloke but wouldnt mind a look at this!!
  16. i think its true 9 times out of 10 a dog will be more willing to take something that dosent give it some of the sharp end... some dogs have took a good kicking off a deer and never looked at them again, the breeding of a dog isnt that important, if it aint got heart and desire you will see a lot more get away than what ends up in the bag.

  21. So on the way back, were they both off the slip at the same time? If so, did they both chase at the same time on the same bunny in the beam? Would you be fearful of collisions causing injury or scraps breaking out between the dogs? To answer your questions one at a time; 1; Yes. 2; It wasn't "bunnies" I was out for. 3; No. 4; Definately no. Cheers. so what were you after chartpolski rats..........
