  1. what i mean is , after i have found the run , and put the trap in . instead of trying to put the turf round the trap and keep the run clear. what i do is compleatly fill the hole arond the jaws and trigger with loose soill. as you said with the talpex , the mole thinks hes had a little cave in . he then works his way in
  2. with regard to filling the trap with soill . i do the same with scissor traps
  3. Would have thought your dad would have brought you and the net. ferreting tomorow, up the dales , was out today flushing . not many days go by when im not doing somthing i wouldn't worry about them being to thick , so long as there not like broom handles. to be honest mine have got thiker over the years . when i started netting years ago , i was tought to get them nice and thin . but to be honest i prefer them thiker now a days. best wishes TOMO
  4. ran 110 yrd out, you need a sewing needle with a large eye, to splice them together, bring it to me i will do it for ya a picture saves a 1000 words, its dead easy when you know how
  5. no thats just it they dont , ferral ferts and wild polcats are the same animal , and live solatry lives, unless breeding
  6. they are ferrets, there were NO wild mamls in N.Z untill europien settlers arived. i think the imformation you are reading is probly missleading . when they say wild colonys , they are probly refering to many individual animals in a certan area. but not to a group of animals living together, like rabbits in a warren.
  7. ferral ferrets, like wild polcats are solatry. when living wild . so there wont be any colonys.
  8. fooking ell mark , only you would expect the RAC , to come and drag you out of a field
  9. DEPENDS ON THE JOB , IF ITS A GOOD DISTANCE , I OFTEN CANT BE ARSED REMOVING THEM FROM TRAPS . SO ITS MOSTLY FERRETING , JUST TAKE THE DOG TO CATCH THE COCKERS THAT GO THROUGH NETS. I WILL ALSO USE FENS , OR AMBUSH WITH THE AIR RIFLE AT DAWN. ONE JOB LAST YEAR I WAS ABLE TO SIT IN THE SUMMER HOUSE OF A BIG GARDEN AND SHOOT THEM OUT THE WIDOW. VERY RELAXING IN BIG GARDENS I OFTEN PUT LONG NETS ROUND SHRUBERY THEN WALK THROUGH
  10. i think you may regret selling that dog young man. cos you can bet your life that your other up and coming bitch will get injured at some point during the season. there arnt any coursing men i know that would worry about having 2 dogs and not working one enough. theres always enough work for 2 dogs , i would have a good think about it first fella. by the way hes a nice type and in good shape best of luck TOMO

    Basket And Poles

the baskets are made of metal, if ya can weld its easy to make one. as far as making shorter ones it depends on what you want the net for. are you sure its 125 yards long? it seems an odd length. is there plenty bag in it . if not make it 100 rds or 2 fifty yarders
  12. if you think thats what all hares do, you are deluding yourself
  13. why do people come out with such foolish coments , all it shows is there sheer lack of experiance. there are certain areas where a hare will get lifted very easy on the lamp . and others where its just not going to hapen. some of the land i hunt the hares are over a brow in the field and gone. you stand almost no chance on the lamp. dont get me wrong , theres no finer test for a dog than a strong winter hare daytime. but the only ones fooling them selvs are people that think all hares lamped are easy
  14. i can see this thread getting messey people coming out with stipid statments

  19. i got to be honest here i dont think the dogs to young to be doing deer, i think you can get them started after 12 months on the smaller ones. at 18 month old hes well old enough
