I would think below 10... I know few spots local to me I might spend 2-3 hours looking for runs...and I dowt I do more than 4 miles there...I've had 5..6 runs in that time then home.. I would think walking 20 miles for your runs .. I would want to walk better land with more hares per acre
-
I never have when I've been on the fen...Yeh walk all day...but plenty of stop time whilst watching the dogs run
-
the only bit I disagree about is saying 30 mile ain't far...30 mile is a big walk....I'm sure you and mC are well capable of doing it...but to say it's not far is off the mark.. 30 mile is a big hike....don't the marines have to do that in training and get 8..9 hours or something
-
30 mile ain't far... I've been keen all me life...only a few year ago ton-ing up whilst lamping the dogs on 7-8 hour shift..up hill and down dale...and whilst I don't know how far I've walked I know it ain't 30 mile.. 30 mile is very far...let's be honest hear

it might be light when you got back to the car....I don't think it would be when I get back...lol... feck walking 20 miles on muddy fen land...I've had some good days out on the fens over the years...and walked some miles...not that far though... think I will leave all that caper to you young bucks ..us old uns like to drive to the land then walk just a few miles.. what's the reason you just walk rather than drive to a spot then walk
-
i think you should be a fisherman mc ....lol.... i recon 30 mile walk is just streching the truth a tiny wee bit....
-
walking 30 miles....i would colapse never mind the dog.... serriously though i have not seen a grew colapse after 3 runs on hare....or catching a bag of rabbits...
-
yeh i like them mate...you just have to use a bit of common sense if your running one....mind i like watching greyhounds as well in the field....bloody exciting to watch
-
thats a good point mc...
-
the staminar thing depends on what your running....if you want a dog that can put 5 mins in on a hare then forget anything that aint coursing bred.....if you want something exciting for 2 mins....then a grew will do it ... and theres no reason they couldnt knock 30 rabbits over on the lamp twice a week.... but staminar is subjective...to what you as the owner want out of a dog..

most lads back then were honest?? im not sure i would go along with that.....but i think i get what your trying to say

When can young pup go out with you on pedal bike?
TOMO replied to Jamie Bleu's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its funny how some folk think a dog trotting by a bike could be over taxing it.... the two pups i have now are 6 moth old next week....and twice a day on there daily walks they are free running for almost the hole walk....only on leads back in my village... the hole time they are out they are coursing each other round and play fighting...the dam joins in with this...they stop for a minuit ...then start all over again....this goes on for the best part of 3 mile....twice a day.... to me this ful tilt running could potentiallybe harnfull if you think about it...the ground is hard a -

TOMO replied to Jamie Bleu's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
must just be me and you dave... my pups were out ferreting at just on 4 month old....out everyday twice for a good long walk round the fields here where i live.... but they have also been ran behind my van....now i aint doing 40 mile an hour or anything but 10-20...for 2-3 mile...they fecking love it... and when i had the f***ing pup that mushroom has over in Barcelona... that was running by the van from 10=11 week again not fast ...now i wouldn't normally start that early with running by the motor....but that dog was a c**t and was going mental in the motor watching the adults -
yeh i suppose the russell needed far less to live on ... i bet it would have made an interesting bit of film if someone had made a documentry about it...

do you not think it would have more of a chance than a pet dog though....at least a greyhound could catch some prey.... would water be an issue out in the bush....or are there enough sheep and catle troughs

TOMO replied to toolebox's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
so ive watched all 8 of those little vids toolbox....very interesting little series...on one of the properties they show a rabbit fence ....but instead of the mesh being buried straight down about 1 foot...they have just laid the last foot or so out on top of the grass... thats not good practice and wont work long term....is there a reason for this with regards to the ground being hard ...or is it the fence erector not having a clue?? -
dogs pic up loads of words if you watch them closely....one of the odd ones mine know is "drink"..... i can tell them to get a drink....and they will go to the water bowl or a stream if im near one
