  1. I have some of his ferrets, took them over when he quit and am continuing his breeding program. some of the best workers i have ever seen! Regards FT
  2. No they dont have to qualify for Moorgreen, but there are plenty of qualifiers available on the day for other big shows, its only the Bedlingtons that have to qualify for their Championship on the day. Its one of the last qualifiers for Chatsworth, and there cant be many qualifying shows left for the Midland. Just bring your dogs and come along and enjoy yourselves. Mrs FT Pm FT if you would like a Lurcher, Terrier or Ferret schedule.

  4. Hi We are a rescue in East Yorkshire, not sure if thats too far, we re-home to working homes. My way of thinking is if you have had ferrets before then you know what you are letting yourself in for and you dont need a home check. At the moment all I have is a couple of working hobs, tried and tested, very handable and steady, just what you want to start you lad off with. Could always meet up at shows if too far from me. PM me for more details. FTs Wife.
  5. East Coast Ferrets will be there running the ferret events on all four days. PR, Racing, Net Making Clinic, Open Ferret Show (Sunday & Monday) Come and have a chat, and a cuppa all welcome. Mrs Ferret Tamer.
  6. Few years ago the wife used to show all over the South of England, amongst the dogs she had a rough coated Deerhound/Greyhound, from a rescue centre who had castrated him before she got him, most judges were ok but she went to a show nr Maidenhead Judge: "I cant place your dog as he had no testicles" Wife: "Why not" Judge: "He looks like a bitch when he walks away from me" Wife: " Its a dog class, and it does not stop him working, I thought it was a working dog show" Judge: "Yes but I still cant place him" Wife: " Well this dog will work all day long and he does not pick the r
  7. Duramitex is the ideal thing to use, if you spray the whole hutch into corners and all the crevices where the eggs are, this should solve your problem. The pigeon racing lads have been using this stuff for years on their lofts to control red mite, you want to see what it does to house flies, fleas explode when sprayed with this stuff. I dont see why you feel the need to set fire to your hutch (are you a closet arsonist?). Regards FT
  8. Okay what's wrong with using Frontline spray on the ferts and then spraying the hutches with Duramitex. Done it this way for years and never had a problem. Both items can be purchased without recourse to a vet therefore saving a small fortune. Regards FT
  9. It's OK people telling you how to do it in writing but it's a lot easier if someone shows you. See if you can find someone locally who does nets or failing that get yourself a copy of Brian Braindeads DVD on net making. Believe it or not it's very good and if you can't tie a net after watching it then there is no hope for you. Regards FT
  10. I agree with DS stay away from the Yanks ideas, but so far no one has mentioned the complete dry foods available. I appreciate not all ferret keepers have a ready supply of fur & feather and complete is an acceptable substitute. Regards FT East Coast Ferret Rescue.
  11. Sorry folk's but Gnipper has got it right, the only answer to this is NO! The silver colouring is the result of a defective gene in the ferrets make up and putting silver to silver/ bew only reinforces the problem. Worst case scenario is a form of cerebral palsy and believe me the results are highly unpleasant..... At best it causes a severely shortened life span and/or joint deformities. I went into this subject some years ago with a geneticist at Oxford University and the results were interesting to say the least. Some of you older ferreters may remember a guy by the name of Les W

  14. My mate in the North East Lincolnshire area has a Mk1 box & collar for sale , 8ft depth looking for around £70. Regards FT

  16. I used to be the same a few years back, only work jills. They would only work in the winter, come spring they started messing about didnt want to know. The wife keeps ferrets "poofy show ferrets" that is, most of the hobs are castrated some cracking jills and she always keeps a few kits back each year for showing. Got up late one morning was supposed to be ferreting for a shoot, went to get the jills they wouldnt even come out of their beds , couldnt be doing with jills messing me about that morning so went to the aviary where the wifes ferrets are  , called a couple o
  17. Hi Yes Les White went into genetics quite deeply and IMHO he new what he was talking about. Its all in the genes. To get the silver colour it is a defective gene in the ferrets DNA and this causes the problems, worse case scenario a type of cerebal palsy, which is not nice to see or to deal with also behaviourial problems and a shortend life span through to the more minor defects such as deafness, blindness and joint problems. This does not happen in all cases but enough to cause concern. In silver/BEW a shortened life expectancy is the norm. Through my own reserch I have c
  18. We use shredded paper all year round for the outside dogs, they tend to burrow into it when its cold. If it's changed frequently there should be no problems besides we get van loads of it for free and i suppose that helps! Regards FT
  19. :11: This has got to be a right bargain, my mate is selling these Shanghai air rifles at £60 for the basic gun and you can add silencer etc, this one is .22 Co2 powered and scarily effective and has accounted for more than it's fair share of bunnys and flying rats. I'm told the yanks love these things as they are easily tuned to way above the UK limit (they are not bound by the restrictions we have) Regards FT
  20. Just thought i would put up a pic of my new Parson pup. 8 weeks old and she goes by the name of "Brie" and will be joining the rest of the rat pack when she is old enough. Regards FT
  21. # Hi Steven As she is only 6 months old, and only one of this years kits she will not come into season until next year. Jill season can start as early as January, really depends on where you live, last year I heard of jills coming into season before christmas and we had 6 jills in season on 3rd January. We have never had this before. Most of our jills come into season towards the end of February/early March and can stay in season until late September/early October, this is when the vasectomised hobs come into action, if we dont want to breed from the jills then off they go to th
