  1. Another couple of hours today, decided to take my vasectomy hob. he has only been out twice, he bolted three rabbits, no problem. and came out of one deep bury covered in blood. Should really work him more, but I have always prefered Jills. He is off good working stock, I use his sister and Tote has sisters, as he is of Totes strain.
  2. HAPPY XMAS ALL YOU RABBITER'S, TILL THE END OF THE SEASON HOPE YOUR NETS WILL BE FULL, AND NOT A LOT OF DIGGING, CJ.
  3. I just asked my local Butcher, and he told me he has to take them from a Dealer, and they come stamped, says he gets offered all types of Game but has to turn it down, as if Inspectors found one Pheasant feather in his back shop, he would be shut down.
  4. As the title says, used to deal with AJ on the Rabbiter's forum, but he has stopped. Thanks CJ. Sorry it should have been five yards.
  5. Sorry tomo, its just the photo makes it look a lot bigger, should have put up the dimensions. ATB, CJ.
  6. I used to use a bank bag, but i had one ferret you had to watch how you lifted the bag as she would bite through it and draw blood. That was the only time she would bite, as she was a well handled beastie.
  7. To big... for ferreting,,and feck carrying that,,, Its 18 inches long, fits in the bottom of my old post bag. And its light.
  8. no just get your mark with the box, when you dig, and sometimes your a wee bit off, you can find the tube with the probe, this one fits in my bag. Dont use it all the time, but a handy tool to have. ive used probes for a number of years, and never hurt a ferret.
  9. what do you think of this probe?
  10. I wouldn't bother ferreting where members of the public are walking buy. i like being out the way, And i cant understand these posts on ferreting at night. Night is for the lamp and the webs.
  11. Two hours walk of the lead, everyday, when not ferreting. And BARF diet.
  12. My two Jills will also kill, I do agreee Tug, that a rabbit jammed up in a stop end will not move, im not saying that using Jills means no digging. in fact with all the gear a solo Ferreter has to carry, two big heavy Hobs, is the last thing I want to carry, im always thinking of ways to lighten the load. but thats another subject.
  13. I'd suggest people comment using knowledge and experience, rather than recycled opinions they've read on the Internet. So what People is this Tug?
  14. I have worked Hobs in the past, but have always used Jills more, so I totally agree with Whippet. I recently bolted a Rabbit in the net with the Jill attached to its neck. If that had been a big hob it would have been a dig. I used to ferret with a Keeper years ago, who had a big hob, who was deadly at killing rabbits. But if they did not bolt right away, and he gripped then there would be no chance of a bolt. I used to work two Jills with him, and found that more Rabbits hit the nets with my Jills, and he certainly caught Rabbits, but he spent a lot of time digging. A dug out Rabbit, is
  15. I dont bother, but with these very bright colours, do any of you give them a wash.
  16. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee509/dumfries002/pip066.jpg[/img Aye they love the couch.
  17. I remember one old poacher who had a border collie that he used for ferreting, and this was an excellent marking Dog. I recently went a mooch, and met a pet owner with a border collie pet, that was marking obvious burys that contained Rabbits, this came natural as the owner told me she had never encouraged it. So my question is, can any breed be turned into a marking Dog, Or some are natural better than others?
  18. A few Bedlingtons are more leggy than other terriers, so their conformation compliments the Whippet. The cross usually has a good nose, speed to take rabbits in the open. And will work cover, this cross has been popular for years
