    the law

unfortunately ignorance is no defence of the law, so its a good job you asked really! as long as you are seen to be trying to stop the dog chasing the fox it is very unlikely that an legal action will be taken against you. just make a big display of "oh you're a naughty naughty dog come here at once" type thing and you should be pretty safe
  4. sounds good mate, is that all dog-blood on your dogs face?
  5. looks like you guys had a great day out those opossums look pretty viscious! do you dig fox as well? great pics and story mate
  6. love the look of that staffy mate good to see someone workin em. what else have you hunted with it? cheers, matt
  7. does anyone on here stalk(mainly deer) and use their dogs for trailing shot deer? im training my pup to the gun, to accompany me on shoots and just general rough shooting, but hopefully will do abit of stalking with her aswell. im not really interested in the shooting part as i can do that practically anytime, but any advise on training a dog to trail would be appreciated - as ive already said, my main discipline is picking up, but my previous dogs have all seemed keen enough to stalk, but i would like to train this one properly. any advise/tips would be much appreciated cheers, matt
  8. great pics and lovely lookin dogs mate! im envious as hell keep the pics coming!
  9. no. :11: why would you use them as gundogs? surely they'd be too hardmouthed and don't have such a stong instinct to reteive??? why not get a lab or spaniel? far more suited to retreiving
  10. about as versatile as they come then eh? kiwi, do you have any pics of them working?
  11. id not rule it out but the bitches i have aint really that way inclined, the dog ur talking about it les's gwp bitch frankie, shes an exellent bitch goes everywhere with les dogging shoot days and pest control,i remember the day she took the fox in question les had been losing poults so he sat waiting for the fox, when it arrived les shot it but unnfortunately it ran off frankie hunted it for a fair while les followed and saw her catch it a fair way off once shed despatched it she retreived it as if it was something shed always done at the time she was quite young, since then shes had a few!!!
  12. good looking dogs that site said something about one of their gwp's trailing and dispatching a wounded fox, do you do anything like that with your vizslas?
  13. i can tell you love your dogs mate! i never really liked having to take a harsher approach to training dogs, but i know it is sometimes neccessary. all i would want to use one for is picking up, pointing, flushing and general rough shooting. they sound fairly ideal as i like the sound of their soft temperament - shame ive got my hands full with my pup! garypco; have you ever worked gwp or gsp's? if so how do they compare as pickers up and for english hunters? kiwi ranks them highly, but has a completely different need to me, would they be a breed worth considering? cheers, matt
  14. as i already said i didnt know what i was expecting and how much the going rate was! i had no idea if they were hard to get hold of or not. i now understand why theyre that price anyway! IMO its a breed worth considering in a couple of years time. last question - i promise! how do you find them when they get hurt, do they completely freak out or what? ive heard that they are fairly soft in that area, never seen them get injured though, so i dont really know.
  15. any dog fast enough and hard enough - ALL LURCHERS that has been brought up right will take fox given half a chance, i think the best dog is the one who uses its brains aswell as strength, speed, stamina, courage etc. my mates lab will tackle a wounded fox or deer that has been shot out of range(never a good idea but sometimes neccessary) and that dog will go all day because it knows how to do it.
  16. i paid £550 for mine and spent feckiin ages looking for her. i bought her off working breeders whose dog i have seen work on shoots and working tests etc. therre is a big problem with HD among the breed but her parents have very good hips and i didnt start exercising her till later in her life than i would of done with another breed. there are a few good workers out there, you just have to find the right breeder. does anyone else work one? if so how do you find their coats? i cut my pups coat every month or two, so that theres no dangling fur to pick up thorns, bramble, lice etc, but thick en

  19. same as everything lol depends on what you want and where you are, prices vary from £500-£800,i have a litter here at present, both parents low hip scores,£650. i can see you know what you are talking about mate, but thats a shedload of money! wouldn't you prefer them to go to good working homes and sell em at £50-£100 each? just seems like a huge amount of money, and as im sure you know, money doesnt guarantee quality. JMO shame on you to question the cost of a well breed pup l/l. if thats the going rate and you want that breed thats [bANNED TEXT] ya pay simple. all my pups go t

  21. cant argue with that. most larger gundogs will do it, but there are specialist dogs for it, but they need a more experienced handler
