  1. alright lads, i work in a reptile/aquatic shop in cornwall and we sell them as snake or lizard food for 15p each. anyone on here though, i'lll give a 100% discount! pm for details.
  2. so its really a horses for courses type thing then? what other breeds have you guys used? does anyone use any breeds of terrier to hunt boar, or is it more a big dog thing? i've always wondered why people don't use kuvasz and other breeds like that.
  3. ok lets not bicker lads!!! so are paterdales able to start work sooner than other breeds? il be wanting to dig with it by mid-late next season(is this unrealistic?) and what age can they start on bunnies and rats? my 6 1/2 month gundog is doing light work with the ferret already and loves it.
  4. anyone own one now? how do they compare to other breeds in terms of working ability
  5. will be mostly digging and if it's any good, when i go back home(aus) ill bring the dog along to hunt there as well
  6. so far got 18 litres of sloe gin pricked and bottled. not all for me - lol wish it was! 10litres for my brothers wedding! loads here in sunny cornwall!
  7. find a nice long alley/corridor that your dog cant get out of, throw a dummy/toy down to the other end of the corridor/alley and stand about 3/4 of the way the other end, your dog should fetch the dummy and try to trot past you. walk backwards slowly calling your dog and when it tries to pass, bend down, stop it passing and praise it, not taking the dummy. still move backwards and when you reach the end, put your hand to the dogs mouth and tell it to drop it, if your dog does, praise it and give it a treat. hope this helps, if you have any trouble pm me and i'll try to help some more.
  8. been considering a patterdale for a while now, as i've had the "not another f*****g big dog!" speech. i have heard alot, good and bad about these dogs but have never seen one work. i am after a dog to dig with, rat with, bush with and to be a good housedog. i like fiery dogs, but are they more injury-prone than other terriers because of this? also are they faster or slower to mature than other terrier breeds? any info would be appreciated. thanks in advance matt
  9. my alsation bitch has got a brilliant prey drive and has pulled down shot deer, but isnt fast enough for bunnies etc. will try to upload pics. 1/2 x would do it i reckon
  10. bit of change eh? mate of mine has got a gwp, good pointer/retreiver but not quite quick enough for much english quarry. do you find them quick enough for what you hunt?
  11. i beleive night walker is an od hand at this. maybe he could shed some light on this
  12. thats your lab/boxers? how many do you use?
  13. kiwi, do your dogs bail, or run and catch?
  14. if we're goin to play together, we must play nicely as far as dog size goes i think it depends on the type of terrain you hunt and what quarry you are going to hunt. for the hunting i do i need a big, powerful dog. it would be unfair to set a weaker ittle dog on those big red things i like to hunt.
  15. well done mate ive always fancied trying scenthound hunting - want to come to cornwall?
