  1. Feck ye DS, You got there before me, I was just about to say something along the same lines
  2. Anything by Pink Floyd. Especially Comfortably Numb and Wish You Were Here. Pear Jam especially Black. If you like storytelling songwriters check out Steve Earle with Johnny Come Lately, Copperhead Road, Hard Core Troubadour etc.
  3. I'M A PIMP !! No, Seriously !! I work as a nominations manager on a stud farm and its my job to get mare owners to bring their mares to my stallions. We also export semen worldwide, and I'm off to Germany in the morning to try and sell some semen over there. Not bringing any samples though.
  4. I'd like to know the answer to that one too! I have a Brittany Spaniel and they are docked to less than an inch. I know they are expected to enter cover if needed to, but they never bash through cover like a springer, and I don't personally see the need for it. As for pointers. Don't get me started. Absolutely love them, I think they are a real purist form of hunting, rather than a jack of all trades like a HPR or Springer but, unfortunately I've never had any luck with them. I owned one, that I just could not train, and I mean COULD NOT train. I tried the gentle approach,

    biting

When I first got my ferrets I had a big pair of heavy working gloves and it only encouraged and taught then to bite because you couldn't feel what you were doing with the gloves on and tended to squeeze and hurt them unintentionally. One day I turned up at a warren and forgot my gloves and discovered that if your gentle and don't make any sudden movements they never even try to bite you.
  6. Trust me on this! Cows with calves are every bit as dangerous as a bull and there are usually more than one of them. Be very careful around horses, that shaggy mare in January just may well be a thoroughbred that cost 6 figures carrying a foal worth a hundred grand, so if any farmer sees you annoying them, you're well and truly done for. I avoid bulls like the plague, but I've been told that Charolais's are about the quietest of them all. But in saying that, never, ever turn your back on one. The same with stalllions, I work with 8 stallions, most of them are very quiet but I
  7. The more you know, the more you know you don't know
  8. I'm the exact same, can't go to bed without winding down first. I have to read something, even if it's just a few pages. Try Sean Frain's new one, one or two sentences should do the trick.
  9. Fastdogz, Think you're bad getting grazi and merci mixed up. I once stopped a french men and asked him in my best french "parlez vous francais". Of course he bloody spoke French, he was a frenchman! What I should have said of course was "parlez vous anglais". Anyway, we both had a good laugh, and he still did his best to give me directions.
  10. Fastdogz, Don't be the least bit worried about getting the train to Toulouse. I used to be a long haul artic driver and drove all over Europe without a single word of French, German, Italian, Spanish etc. etc. and I survived. I wise man once told me "all you need is a good map, and a civil tongue" and I've been getting by on that ever since. Heading to Germany next weekend on my own for 4 days to a stallion licensing and I know I'll have no problems. If your polite and presentable, 99% of will help you out.

    Defenders

Very bling. Best of luck with it.
  12. At first, I thought "well, that's a load of shite" But, no matter how I try my foot always changes direction. Anyone got an explanation?
  13. Just saw a trailer for the new Hannibal Rising movie. I've read the book and to be honest, it's not that great. I think they have gotten worse as the time goes on and following that trend I'd give a fair bet that this one will be the worst one yet. Pity though, to see great movies like Manhunter and Silence Of The Lambs being cashed in on.
  14. Thanks again lads for all the replies. Keep them coming.
  15. DS, Looking at your avatar, I would have guessed your answer to the question "manhunter vs. red dragon". Plus, in my opinion a far better Hannibal Lecter than Anthony Hopkins. Don't know if I'd call it my absolute favourite but definitely well up there alongside Carlito's Way and all the other gangster movies I love so dearly.
  16. My first proper job apart from working at home was for 60 punts a week in 1994, and I spent the the lot on a Lakeland terrier pup.
  17. Beagling last Sunday in Ireland. We hunted one hare for an hour and a half. She swam across a river twice, then lay down flat in some freshly spread slurry and the hounds lost the scent, but we put her up again and she eventually got away. We hunted so hard for the solid 1 1/2 hours that 2 hounds had to be treated for cold shock after swimming that river twice and running so hard. They are improving now but needed close observation for a few days. She provided us with a fantastic days sport, and I have no problem seeing an animal that intelligent get away to live another day. I
  18. I know DS said only one post each, but Comfortably Numb is the greatest song of all time, ever. I can hear every note of Dave Gilmour's solo as I type. Classic. Respect to Charlotte Hill
  19. Thanks all for replying Collie/grey, i like the sound of the pharaoh hound as well, would be interesting to see. Macnas, I've never seen a small munsterlander, but I have seen a Large Munsterlander, are they another type of HPR or what is their speciality.
  20. Now I don't necessarily want to know the best dog you ever had or what breed suits your style of hunting, but what you would really LOVE to train, regardless of practicalities or geographical location. I'll get the ball rolling. First of all I would really love to train and work a proper working bred Irish Red Setter (none of those brain dead showing types). But unfortunately they're notoriously timid and difficult to train and I just wouldn't have the patience, or the hunting ground to have one. Someday though Secondly, I think that pure bred Saluki's are the most graceful and
