Big Fish I have to disagree with you. I would never introduce the flak jackets too early on in their career. I find that the extra weight is too much for them when their still young and their muscles haven't matured fully.

Fantastic idea, Hope it works well

I'm slowly melting, haven't had a decent kip in days with the heat at night. Spent the last two days working outside in the midday sun and it's going ten rounds with Tyson, absolutely knackering!

Rabbithunter, are you serious? That must have been one huge warren!! Blakfut, I hate it when that happens, went out a few years ago and entered a terrier into a simple shallow fox earth and, you've guessed it, ended up digging ten feet in the lashing rain and dark with a flashlight and inadequate digging tools. Absolute killer at the time, but something to laugh about afterwards.

Nice kits mate, hope they work out well for you

Hi Erin, Sorry I don't know the guy in Downpatrick who makes the hutches, I made both of mine myself.
-
I put a litter tray full of water in with my 3 jills and they had great fun jumping in and out and splashing in it. They had it empty of water in about 15 minutes and made a hell of a mess of the hutch. They looked like a couple of drowned rats but seemed to enjoy themselves. Don't know what to use the next time, the litter tray was too light and they were able to turn it over, but they definitely loved it.

Thanks teejay, Just thought I'd start a new topic, interesting to hear peoples stories, I'm into terriers as well so I don't mind digging at all even thought some of my shooting pals think I'm mad when I get stuck in with the spade. They can't believe that anybody could get excited about digging a bloody big hole :11: . Maybe they're right !!!

Hi all, Just wondering whats the deepest that anyone has ever dug to a ferret? Most of the terrier guys have dug to ten foot at one stage or another and love it whereas the ferreting guys hate the thoughts of digging (mostly). Any pics of deep digs would be great too.

I bought a MK II and hated it until I got the hang of it, but it's grand now. Anything electrical or mechanical hates me anyway and never works for me. I don't like the collars, they seem to be harder to get tight on the ferret. Mine came off the ferret last year under a dirty great tree and it took me half a day to dig the bloody collar out in the the freezing rain. Now I know how to work it properly and keep the collar on tightly, it's fine.

I bought one of those folding army type spades once and it was completely useless. Head to B&Q and they have plenty of short, strong garden spades with quite a wide blade that I use all the time and find it fantastic. Think it cost about 20 euro. Never had to dig too deep to a ferret so it was never a problem, but I am looking for a nice round mouth shovel with a short handle just in case.

If you look after the inside the outside will look after itself. I keep mine well fed with some raw eggs added and a drop of cod liver oil now and again and they have fantastic coats and the dirt just falls off as soon as it dries. I never wash them and they look immaculate every morning when they come out of the kennel. Works for me

I used to have a whippet x lakeland cross and he was a superb all rounder. Really hardy type, great coat, speedy enough for ferreting and lamping but obviously not a dog for coursing hares. Great at hunting cover and above all, the most intelligent dog we ever owned. Never fought with other dogs or caused us any trouble at all. I'm trying to find another at the moment with no success so am considering buying a whippet bitch so I can breed my own. I want a small, hardy, intelligent dog for mostly ferreting and bushing and occasional lamping. Maybe the dog we had was just a lucky mis

Well done Frank

Fast looking dog, hope she works well for you

Dead right, She's some hunter all right, best nose I've ever seen on a dog. Was walking her yesterday and she tracked a wily old cock pheasant for about 400 yards through heavy cover and eventually found, pointed and flushed him. Pity it wasn't in season!!! She has actually won a pointing test organised by the Brittany Spaniel Club of Ireland. She'a not too bad when hunting, she hunts hard but she doesn't go out of sight. I spent a lot of time teaching her the turn whistle and she's learnt to limit her range and won't cross a boundary or hedge. I'd definitely buy another one, no

Smashing pup. I had a whippet x lakeland cross once and he was a superstar. He could do anything, ferreting, lamping, hunt cover, find lost game, never fought with other dogs, was never sick, fantastic temperament, best allrounder we ever had. We never left him at home when we went hunting, no matter what we were doing.

Nice looking labs, are they good workers?
-
Cheers mate I wasn't sure if they needed to be or not and I couldn't get a straight answer off any vets around here, I just took it for granted that every animal needed worming.
-
Cheers for that
-
Is that panacur for cattle or sheep? How much would you give them?
-
yeah mate shit quality photo shit quality dog ,i have yet to see a russel that would go to ground they are even weary of rats. do yourself a favour and get a decent terrier like a border ,they might be three times the price but you get what you pay for init That's hardly fair! We all have our opinions and I'm not mad about Jack Russells myself but it's not fair to slag off someone elses dog if you don't know the animal. Give it the benefit of the doubt. Nice looking dog Guns, I hope he works out well for you.

Hi all, How do you all worm your ferrets? What products do you use? I can't find anything on the shelves that mentions ferrets and the vets around here know nothing about ferrets. How often do they need worming?
-
i feed all mine, lurcher terriers and a springer, on feedwell complete food. ialso give them scraps from the table ocassionly but only with not instead of their dry food. if your dogs are active and get plenty of work and exercise exra scraps will only benefit them. every sat they get a lambs as a treat, Did I read that right, they get a LAMB every saturday as a treat? Are you serious or am I missing the joke here?
